Looking for a fun tournament buddy to attend WHOOPS 2012!

Post by Dangerous Beans »

Hi guys, I just wanted to write an advert post in the attempt to find someone who'd be up for a really fun and 'fluffy' social tournament called Whoops which has been running for 14 years now.

Let me say now that it if you were interested you would not have to be paired up with me, in fact I talk about this a bit more later on...

Its on VERY soon - a week this saturday in fact (ie. the weekend of 24th - 25th March). Wayne Kemp of Heelanhammer podcast fame talks about it: at 59.50 (mins/seconds) Dan Heelan and Wayne review the tournament, what its about - pros and cons as well as their own special fluffhammer rules.

http://www.heelanhammer.com/?p=458

In a nutshell (not easy) it is:
- 1750 pts per player
- teamed to a random other player for the duration of the weekend
- 4 Warhammer Games
- 2 special 'fluff' games: a Warhammer 'Horse' (or Cold One, Chaos Steed, Giant Rat etc - all stats are the same/equal!) and a Dungeon Siege/Hero Dual/Arena of Death fought over specially made terrain and rules!
- the ability to summon powerful elementals (think greater daemons) to the table, but be wary if your opponents summon one because yours will disappear!
- in Birmingham, UK

From my point of view it doesn't seem like a normal competitive tournament - in fact far from it, and although people will be playing to win, winning is not everything. I am keen to go to a more social tournament with a smaller group of gamers because I'd like to get to know some more peeps from the tourney scene in general - it means theres a greater chance of bumping into them at other tournaments and getting a more friendly atmosphere. Plus (and on a more mature note) I want the chance to have a few beers whilst gaming and this tournament seems like!

The link to the actual Whoops tournament topic and rulespacks can be found here:

3. Additional Rules

There are quite a few rules to have a look through, but basically Wayne summarises it quite nicely in his talk about it. Having read the forum thread and seen people's responses - for many people this is THE tournament to go to and will have some beautifully crafted armies such as Halfings (Orcs and Goblins), Amazons (Beastmen) and a Mutant Pirate Trollslayer army (Ogres...!) amongst others (Rat Ogre themed Ogre Kingdoms for example)

Anyway have a listen/read of the podcast and see what you make of it. I think that Steve (organiser) would be ok with an extension on deadlines for army lists etc.

Please PM me if you are in anyway interested

Callum
