Looking like an eldar avatar tree :)

Interesting to see some of the rules. Seems 'stubborn' may be common in the army. Guess they explain that as not willing to let the invaders into their forest.
Forest spirit is now melee and missile attacks counting as magical, forest strider and if not a mount 6++ and immune to psychology.
ASF elves too now.

Wood Elves trying to jack our Cauldron of Blood swagger.

Like the character. Always thought warhawks (and the little Drake's for our characters) should have special rules to go along with them.

It also looks like a return to spear formation for the Woodies, with extra ranks and armour piercing. I hope this is a herald of 9th as I'd like to see spearwalls more accurately represented in the game.

Well, AP spears can actually be useful :P

And the character has only two special rules, ASF and Stubborn... considering all elves so far got two racial special rules...

It looks like we were all wrong and woodies get ASF and Stubborn as their special rules.

Which in 8th edition makes a whole lot of sense with all of their combat units being small skirmishers unable to get or break ranks.

But, Elves are bad at attrition... We'll have to wait a little while longer I guess.

That model is absolute Sh.... Hopefully it comes with the option to not arm it that way. And is that a shield on it's head?

If you look closely at the first blurry picture... those are GREAT AXES!

Treeman is terrible, the blades actually look metallic... on a tree. Bad.
The rest might suffer from typical GW bad painting. Aside from the claws I think the model is passable, unfortunately both Durthu and standard treeman have the claw so we can't know if there's a second arm. Though there's clearly a second right arm... wooden sword or a set of viney tentacles? hmm.

The character guy is a really nice model though.

Treeman still looks horrible. Good thing I'm not collecting Wood Elves. I like the old treeman from back in 4th edition. Really small but he had character and painted up really well.

I'm liking the Treeman. As I said over on lustria online, its moving away from the "literal walking tree" concept and more towards "elder elemental spirit of the wood coming to frig your shiz up and ruin your day." The former is quite at home in Tolkein but an eye-roll in WHF, whereas the latter is perfect for moving Wood Elves away from hippies and giving them a wilder, darker edge (as started in the previous book). Anything to make them be feared rather than a borderline laughing stock is a good thing, imo, although its not helped by the typical terrible GW paint job.

Anyway, those of you who want Treebeard... could just buy Treebeard.

Onto rules... 6++ for Forest Spirits is a straight up nerf however you look at it, even if its no longer conditional. That makes me a sad panda as I don't think its deserved - have the Woodies been Vetock'd rather than Warded?* But it could be made up in other ways - synergy with units/spells/items/upgrades could improve it, Scaly Skin saves, ranked Dryads, etc. So let's hope that's not the end of the story.

ASF was expected and a welcome addition. I'm also hearing that Wild Riders get Frenzy - Vanguard 2A s5 ASF cavalry is pretty hot, imo. Lots of Stubborn is also a good way of getting around the Skirmish problem, if not has helpful as you might think - if you're testing, its because you're losing combat anyway, and that's always bad for Elves.

On the other hand, the decision for High and Dark magic is an odd one. It makes sense thematically, and I think that they are both solid Lores, but its weird that Wood Elves end up with access to more Lores than either Elf. Its just a slightly jarring decision.

*I always attribute naff abilities that activate on a 6+ to Vetock, after the disappointment that is 8th Lizards.

Dark and High? Must be going for the Senlu Yin-Yang angle.

it'sta shame. Wood elves have no reason to know dark magic, developed by Morathi herself and only ever practiced in Naggaroth.

I would have preferred the 8 lores plus access to High for Lv4s. Interested to see how they fluff justify it though.

It seems like taking a shortcut giving them High and Dark lore instead of their own forest lore.
Previous fluff wise there should be no indication giving them both High and Dark - and I think it is a pity they don't get their own lore.
From the creators perspective I can see it might be hard to come up with yet another lore!

Well we know nothing for sure until the book comes out. The ONLY thing we know right now is they will have ugly Treeman models. :P
