Making a hard Radical DH list?

Post by Ansob. »

I'm not going for something WAACy, but just something that stands a chance in tournament environment.
I've been trying to make a solid RDH list for a month or so now, without any success at all. So far, the list I've come up with is this:

HQ Alejan Lorrdhe, Radical Inquisitor Lord
- Lighning claws.
- Terminator armour.
- Holocaust.

His retinue
- Three veterans with hellpistol and close combat weapon.
- Familiar.

His Chimera
- Turret-mounted heavy flamer.
- Hull-mounted heavy flamer.
- Hunter-killer missile.
- Extra armour.
- Smoke launchers.

[115 + 36 + 108 (259)]

Elite Summer and Spring, the Weapon of the Enemy (DH)

[2 * 85 (170)]

Elite Sword and Spear, worshippers of the Glaive (DCA)

[2 * 40 (80)]

Troop Anti-armour division, Lorrdhe’s Glaive
- Two stormtroopers with melta-guns.
- Eight stormtroopers.

Chimera
- Turret-mounted heavy flamer.
- Hull-mounted heavy flamer.
- Hunter-killer missile.
- Extra armour.
- Smoke launchers.

[120 + 108 (228)]

Troop First support division, Lorrdhe’s Glaive
- Two stormtroopers with plasguns.
- Eight stormtroopers.

Chimera
- Turret-mounted multi-laser.
- Hull-mounted heavy bolter.
- Hunter-killer missile.
- Extra armour.
- Smoke launchers.

[120 + 108 (228)]

Troop Second support division, Lorrdhe’s Glaive
- Two stormtroopers with plasguns.
- Eight stormtroopers.

Chimera
- Turret-mounted multi-laser.
- Hull-mounted heavy bolter.
- Hunter-killer missile.
- Extra armour.
- Smoke launchers.

[120 + 108 (228)]

Troop Third support division, Lorrdhe’s Glaive
- Two stormtroopers with plasguns.
- Eight stormtroopers.

Chimera
- Turret-mounted multi-laser.
- Hull-mounted heavy bolter.
- Hunter-killer missile.
- Extra armour.
- Smoke launchers.

[120 + 108 (228)]

Heavy Orbital bombardment from inquisitorial flagship Unrelenting Hatred
Lance strike.
[70]

Total 1491

I made damn sure I had enough anti-armour stuff, given the relative (lack of) solidity of stormtroopers, which is why every vehicl has a H/K missile on it. Why the HF/HF combo on the HQ and AA division? Because they'll be up close, and I want the Chimeras to be able to do damage on their own (two HF shots a turn at PB range isn't something that can easily be shrugged off). As for the HQ, he's basically a suicide bomber: drive into combat, jump out - minimal escort, just so I get the extra stats where I have to and to save points - kill stuff with I5 twin LCs and Holocaust. That's the plan, anyway. ISTs will park in cover and shoot. It's pretty bad, I know, but hey...

Anyway, including some Space Marines is feasable, given that I have a chapter ready fluffwise for the task (based on French knights, so CC-oriented - important for the following part). Alternatively, a SM list with RDH allies is feasible, but including two hosts is vital (and that means including an InqLord, since you need an Iquisitor and you only have access to 0-1 DH elites) - I've got an idea with a command squad consisting of epistolary (Fear of the Darkness + Veil of Time and storm shield, nothing else), master (power weapon and storm shield, nothing else) and command squad (champion and standard bearer) in a Rhino with the usual stuff - yes, the storm shields are something due to fluff - which comes in at 155 + 100 + 165 + 58 = 478 points (ouch). Feel free to tear the list up and rebuild it, by the way - it's something I plan to buy sometime in the next few years. Oh, and help building the SM list from scratch would be appreciated, if a hard DH one doesn't work.

Relying on single-shot HK missiles for anti-tank weaponry probably isn't the greatest of ideas. If you can, I'd strongly suggest getting meltabombs put on vet. sgts. for the storm troopers and on basically everyone who can have them. Considering their mobility, the only vehicle you should have trouble with it the monolith and even then, you don't need to destroy it to win.
