Post by No one »

I like Dark Dldar, Wyches get a 4+ invulnerable in CC and the agoniser wounds on 4+ versus ay toughtnessand and ignores armour. Splinter cannons are the ultimate squad weaon, basically an assault 4 storm bolter.

Making a workable list is interesting, but the individual components are first class. Think of them as a sort of fast imperial gauard, with no template weapons but better assault infantry.

Codex: Craftworld Eldar is downright better but one can make a competitive list out of Dark Eldar. The options are just clearly fewer.

I think if you described your preferred playing style we could give you more detailed info and advice

well i really like the eldar idea of hightly specialised troops with unique abilities, however i also like the fast moving forces of DE, however, maybe eldar would be a better choise as it it is something completely new (my dark elf army is cavalery based).
so.......pls tell me about eldar playing styles: can they be played as a very mobile force like the dark eldar? because if they can i'll just go with eldar.

I play Craftworld Eldar for 6 years now. I can confidentally tell you that they can be played in an aggressive and really fast style. Dark Eldar are IMHO the masters of fast assaults but Eldar are not bad either.

It comes naturally for Dark Eldar players to create a fast and CC orientated list with good shooting. Craftworlders on the other hand can be played in any style you can imagine. Psyker-, CC-, shooting- or avoidance heavy lists that can be made either tough or fragile. Vehicle heavy and monstrous creature heavy options are also there.

If you're interested in Dark Eldar remember their codex is THE oldest in 40k. It dates back to the beginning of 3rd edition (we're in 5th) with very small update along the way (akin to our Druchii revision in 6th)

I myself am playing Dark Eldar... but playing is a big word since I put the army (and 40k) on hold until my main army gets new army book. Which if rumours are true should happen sometime early next year.
7th edition army book:
Games Played: 213
Games Won: 114 (54%)
Games Drawn: 33 (15%)
Games Lost: 66 (31%)

8th Edition army book W/D/L:
Druchii: 36/4/16

I agree with Dalamar - it's a point worth considering - the Craftworld Codex got an update not that long ago (relatively) - I think it was the 2nd last Codex released before the new 5th Edition (?).

Dark Eldar are, just like the Druchii, overdue for a re-vamp. That's not a guarantee they'll get it soon, but there are supposedly a number of "5th Ed Army FAQ's" that are coming out to bring all the armies into some sort of line while everyone waits for a proper 5th Ed Codex.

This FAQ for Dark Eldar might be like the Dark Elf Revision was for Druchii... Then again, the Craftworld guys are pretty cool too...

Er, those FAQs came out a few days before fifth edition was released. They were like all FAQs: they just clarify a few rules points, but do nothing for rebalancing. Codex: Eldar was the first fifth edition codex too, released some time back.

Dark Eldar will be updated either the end of 2009 or the start of 2010, so they are still a way off.
