Right we are all here, excellent. Now before we begin, let me just go over the basic rules and guidelines that will hopefully enhance the roll playing experience for all involved.

1) Your character status will very much depend on your posting. I will injure or even kill off characters that aren’t pulling their weight in terms of posts so try and stay to the deadlines I set and try and write at least a paragraph each time you post.

2) Your characters are not immortal. Nor are they even heroic for that matter. In gaming terms you are about on par with a 7-point DE warrior at the start. You characters will level up and get stronger as the game goes on, but until then you should be reasonable in the way you play. Chances are that if you decide to go up with a Chosen Knight Of Khorne by yourself your going to get mashed into a fine paste.

3) As far as actions go, I will use two systems. For regular actions that do not involve your characters health (eg. Bluffing a guard, etc.) I will determine the success of your actions primarily on the quality of your posts. For actions that involve your characters health I will look at your characters stats, equipment, and skills and then roll a die. For example: A character decides to jump out a window of a two story building to escape a guard, and grab on to a nearby tree limb to stop his fall. He is a warrior with 3 dexterity, light armor, a shield, and a longsword. Because of his average dexterity he would normally succeed on a roll of 4+, but his armor and weapons weigh him down so he will only succeed on a roll of a 5+.

4) Now for fighting. Fighting will follow a similar system to that of actions. I will look at your characters stats, skills, and equipment, compare them to their enemy's, and modify the die accordingly. If two opponents are equal in strength, you succeed on a 4+, but better equipment and armor increases your odds. Also realize that fighting alone is much more dangerous, and that fighting with friends will give you a MUCH higher chance of succeeding. Most importantly, your success in fights will depend on how well you write and describe your actions in the fight. If I feel you’ve done a very good job in describing your attack, I will modify the dice in your favor. Thus, even if you are outclassed and outnumbered, a good post can keep your character alive.

Also two more suggestions:
1) Keep a character profile like mine in your profile(signature), with at least your characters name, stats, equipment, and inventory. You may include more (such as age, class, gender, etc.), but at least what I have specified. It not only helps you keep track of your character, but also lets you see what your fellow players are capable of and what they are carrying.

2) Follow a standard Speech , Thought , Action format for posting. This helps everyone follow your posts more easily. fools, they think they can match me? Jaek thought to himself, “Now you will die!” he yelled as he broke from his cover. Jaek will jump over the barrier, drawing his sword as he sprints down the street and dives at the supposed leader of the human mercenaries.

Next, a few instructions I would like everyone to work on. If you have not already, please take the time to read a few posts in the other RPG mods’ groups. This will help you get a feeling for how this RPG will flow and work out. To begin, I think a posting deadline of once a week should suffice, this can be edited where necassary after I can evaluate the appropriate pace. If you have any queries at all please PM me and I will reply ASAP.

IC: Syndikit was getting nervous; he needed a handful of mercenaries, fairly inexperienced but not idiots to reply to the posters he put up just yesterday. His hand was shaking, causing him to spill the red wine out of his glass and on to the floor, because in just three hours he would have to go down to the Harpies Den, a pub belonging to an important friend where he would instruct the group under his command of the mission they had to complete.

He looked over to the corner where the helmet sat over the fireplace, dusky and worn; it radiated a powerful aura around it. Syndikit was sure that there was indeed a mystery regarding it, which could be solved with travelling down to the tomb, well he personally would not travel down, he felt he was much too important. He would send one of his lieutenants with a handful of crewmen to assist in any way possible. Already Syndikit had been forced to enlist more spies, he would need them to travel wherever necessary and be able to report back to him soon. This mission was going to cost him a lot, but his friends were in a strong position unlike Syndikit and hopefully a rich reward awaited him afterwards.

They would be just arriving at the Harpies Den now, but Syndikit believed it was best to leave them for a few hours, let them talk to each other, get excited about the coming task. He sat there; sipping what wine had remained in his glass, some of it spilling on to his purple robe. He wiped it with a cloth and pushed his long white hair behind his ears. He had been in this game, mercenary work for almost eight hundred years, he knew how things worked, that inexperienced mercenaries were useful to be discreet. This was unlike any other mission though, as it was his wealth being invested, yet he knew he would only receive a fraction of the actual wealth obtained, should he find any in the tomb. He knew that his friends would have spies everywhere, to check up on Syndikit, to ensure he did not take more than his share. He was angry, but every time his friends called he did this, it was part of the game. He looked to the sun setting out of his window, it was time he got going, he grabbed his bastard sword and sheathed it around his belt. He walked out of the door and looked up to the setting sun “just another day, just another day” as he began the walk down to the Harpies Den.

The bartender was given a generous bag of gold to keep the bar empty for Syndikit, only allowing those interested in the task in. They were to wait there at the table and enjoy the free meal and wine provided until Syndikit could arrive with the details.

OOC: Ok you have all found out about the job through a leaflet, you must make your way to the Harpies Den, let the Bartender know your business and enjoy a free meal and glass of wine, socialise amongst yourselves and wait for Syndikit to arrive.

Draich-na walked the streets with a new purpose now. Since the incident with his father many years ago he had been unsure as to his future. He pulled the crumpled leaflet out of his pocket and read over it once again to confirm the location, the Harpies Den, "never heard of it" he thought.

As he walked past the various buildings he stumbled over a pile of crates outside a particulary ominous looking tavern, his eyes glanced over the dirty sign and just made out the name of the establishment, 'The Harpies Den', "Good fortune smiles on me today it seems" he thought as he entered the pub.

"Barkeep, I was instructed to wait at a table here and that I would be provided with a free meal and drink" said Draich-na, getting straight to the point.

The bartender acknowledged Draich-na as one of the mercenaries and showed him to the designated table, he was about to fetch some wine when he noticed the white Raven emblem on Draich-na's robe, he frowned and then only half filled Draich-na's glass.

Draich-na noticed the bartenders disgust and ignored it, his father had been well respected by the people of this city and it was well known that his son was the cause of his demise.

Draich-na downed the wine and threw the glass at the bartender,
"Old fool" he thought.

Maldain thought to himself as he examined the letter "seems a bit strange to go into a celler for a job, but money is money so might as well go for it!"

As he had no idea where the Harpies den was, he asked directions from a druchii that he passed by.

The bar didn't exactly look new and was a bit creepy, nonetheless he entered the bar and walked over to the counter. He looked at the bartender. He looked pretty angry and kept sending funny looks at another druchii who was sitting on a table with a reserved sign on it. Maldain said to the bartender, "There is supposed to be a free meal and drink waiting for me"

The Bartender showed him to the table where the other druchii was sitting, but he was attempting to keep his distance from the elf sitting around the table. The bartender said "Your drink and food should be coming in a few minutes" still trying to keep his distance. Maldain glanced at the other mercenary sitting on the other side of the table, he had long black hair and was wearing a cloak that had a symbol on it. He wasn't sure if it was colours of a clan or a family crest or just a symbol that was stitched on to look good. Maidain very shyly said "Hi."

OOC: This is my first post in the Role playing forum so I hope its ok.

Draich-na toyed around with his meal, it looked like a half-cooked rat. "Figures, everyone in this town hates me, but i'll regain my honour somehow" he thought to himself. He took a bite of his food and swallowed reluctantly, it tasted like a rat but he was determined not to show any discomfort as he now noticed that he was not alone.

Draich-na observed the druchii sitting across from him, "Blond hair and blue eyes, reminds me of my ancestors from Ulthuan". He noticed that the elf spoke shyly to greet him but he got the impression this elf was not weak but just being respectful.

"Hi there im Draich-na" he greeted the elf back. The bartender was staring at Draich-na from behind the bar and he noticed there was a shortsword now slung from the bartender's belt that was not there when he entered.
"Friendly place huh?" he said to the other elf.

Maldain grew a little in confidence as he thought the other elf was a bit angry and wasn't very kind, however this druchii seemed nice and polite. He then realized he had just been looking Draich-na for about 30 seconds without saying anything. "Erm... i thought they were quite nice but the bartender seems a bit scared of you, what happened? My name is Maldain Tearflail by the way."

The bartender came up behind Maldain and put the meal and wine on the table infront of the hired Mercenary. It looked quite alot tastier than Draich-na's. Now Maldain had no doubt that something had happened with the bartender and the druchii sitting opposite him.

Ilokir was hesitant. He had been low profile in Vikahr for over two weeks already. After the assasination of the noble Arha, there weren't any signs that he was a suspect. Of course, he still had to be carefull. The whole job stank from the start. Kynth Arha wanted to kill his father. Whether to take over the house or out of religious reasons was not altogether clear. Things always stank when Morag-Heg was involved. They should have killed Kynth from the start. Apart from that, the assassination of Kynth's father had been successful, but the noble's son apparently had connections in the ranks of the militia. Any trace of Kynth had been erased, but clearly the militia was in an alarmed state. As disaster always strikes twice, Ilokir lost feeling with the fleeing band of assassins.

There hadn't been any interesting job offers that permitted him to leave town. That was, until now. Ilokir studied the pamphlet for the second time in as many minutes. It could be a ruse to lure him out, and of course, it could not. Why would someone take such pains, when it was much easier to arrest him here and now. Ilokir decided that it was a risk he had to take. The money he plundered in the noble's house was running out quickly. Besides, he wanted to leave this cursed town as quick as possible.

'The Harpies Den', not a place to go unprepared. The type of elves who visited that bar were even more dangerous than Vikahr's militia. Stoicly, Ilokir enters the bar, throwing daggers at the ready and concealed in the sleeves of his robe. With a quick glance, Ilokir scans the bar, searching for any sign of a trap. Ilokir immediately recognises the bartender and then spots two figures at the table in the centre of the room: A druchii warrior almost as old as him, wearing a worn family insigna on his robe and a Temple trainee with the appearance of a High Elf. The unexpected presence of a High Elf provokes a surge of hatred Ilokir barely manages to surpress.

Ilokir shows the pamphlet to the bartender and slowly strides towards the table with the two elves, hoping his flare of anger went by unnoticed.. Suspiciously eying the Trainee, Ilokir takes a seat, positioning himself with a clear view at the entry door. "Ilokir Stormblade", Ilokir presents himself, then sheating his throwing daggers.

"I'm Maldain Tearflail." He introduced himself to the druchii that had just sat down. Maldain noticed that Ilokir was occasionally glancing at him. The other elf was quite a bit older than Maldain, he was more hardened and looked like he had been in battles before. Maldain was a little scared of this other druchii because he saw the weapons he had on his person.

A thought came to Maldain "When are the others getting here, i hope it's not just the three of us going down there."

IC:Draich-na felt slightly intimidated by the new arrival, ever since he had killed his father he was often hounded by hired killers and local vigilantes, "my mothers at it again" he thought as he watched the elf take a seat at the table. The other druchii obviously wasnt after him as he sat down peacefully, Draich-na was getting slightly edgy as time drew on, " I wonder if this is a set up, this new arrival looks slightly harder than the standard elf here and that really says something" thought Draich-na, "Hahaha the Ulthuan type angers him! Good, we will need such experience and anger, this mission doesnt feel right" he thought.

Draich-na thought he should assert some dominance and show some presence at the table as the arrival of the other elf had even the bartender distracted,
He took his sword and put it down on the table just then noticing a particularly familiar type of sword on the other elf next to Maladain,
" Thats an Ulthuan blade is it not? Draich-na friend and you are?"

The Harpies Den, now there is a bar I haven’t been to in a while, Sarath thought as he made his way down the alley. It was a typical dreary evening in Vikarh, the sun was just setting and already a light fog was forming. Sarath hadn’t been in Vikarh for very long, but he had taken the time to learn as much about the city as he could. Now if I recall correctly, the Harpies Den should be just around this corner. Instead of the Harpies Den, Sarath found himself in front of a dead end. Now I am confused. I took a left past the market square, then two blocks towards the harbor. Or was it three? Sarath shifted uneasily as he racked his brain for the proper directions. Perhaps I shouldn’t have had those few drinks before setting out this evening. He glanced at the leaflet held in his left hand, searching for any mention of the Harpies Den’s location, but to no avail. Finally, he made up his mind and backtracked down the alley to the last fork in the path. It must be around here somewhere, Sarath thought, a slight panic entering his mind. It’s been too long since I've had a job, and I am sorely out of money. Not to mention a free meal will be very welcome indeed.

Upon reaching the fork, Sarath took the right route, thinking it to be the proper path. He glanced left and right at the ominous buildings rearing up on either side of him. This part of town doesn’t look very familiar, so maybe I’m on the right track. If so, around this corner should be… ah ha! There before him, jutting out from the edge of a block of buildings, sat the Harpies Den. “At last,” he exclaimed aloud, “here we are. I'm in need of a drink.” Sarath quickened his pace as he made his way to the door. Opening it quickly, Sarath was surprised by the doors heavy weight, having to suddenly double his effort. Once clear of the door, he half stumbled into the entranceway. Damn heavy doors, I always look like a fool when they surprise me like that. Taking a quick glance around the room, Sarath noted it was empty save for three druchii seated around a single table in the middle of the room. Ah yes, I forgot our patron had reserved the entire pub for us. Sarath turned towards the bar counter and addressed the barkeep.

“Barkeep, I am here in regards to a leaflet about a possible job, and was informed a free meal and drink would be offered,” Sarath stated to the man, eager for a warm meal and a fine drink. The barkeep quickly instructed him to the table where the other druchii sat, bringing with him a fine looking meal and a tall glass of wine. Sarath sat down beside the first druchii he saw, a tall elf who appeared only slightly older than himself. Seemingly oblivious to the bartenders disdain for the elf and the animosity that appeared from the assembled druchii, Sarath sat quickly and began eating in earnest. “Ah, a very fine wine, sir,” Sarath remarked in between mouthfuls of food. “I have not had it’s like in many days. I thank you sir.” The barkeep remained indifferent as he went back to the counter, continuing to send dark glances towards the table.

Absently, Sarath remembered the other druchii seated at the table, and quickly composed himself. He took a moment to examine the other druchii, noting the one who was obviously a member of the Temple of Khaine. He appeared to have just arrived befor Sarath, and was in the middle of his own introduction. He, as well as another older elf, had the look of the fairer High Elves. A curious sight, but one Sarath paid little heed to. The elf he sat next to had a much darker look to him, and seemed to regard the barkeep with as much disdain as the barkeep gave him. “Forgive my rudeness, I was quite parched. My name is Sarath'anarth, a pleasure to join you.”

I realise the deadline has passed, but I want to wait for Vorax Dria, I have sent him a PM. I want all players to post really, its quite important at this early stage. Be warned also, late posts can be dangerous when enemies are involved. If he does not reply soon, I will have to consider a course of action to take.

Judging the reactions of the two elves who introduced themselves as Draich-na and Maldain Tearflail, Ilokir realises there is no immediate threat. If there was an actual threat, the bartender would have not expressed such a bored behaviour. Reassured for the moment, Ilokir relaxes a little and takes a sip from the bloodwine, but immediately realises his mistake. There is nothing as foul in Naggaroth as bloodwine. No wonder Druchii always look so sour.

Spitting out his wine in disgust, Ilokir watches with surprise Draich-na drawing his sword. Not altogether clear how he should interprete the gesture, Ilokir answers Draich-Na: "There is no need to draw swords yet. You'd better wait until you encounter a real threat, I fear that moment will be soon enough." Watching the confused expression on Draich-na's face, Ilokir realises these two elves probably didn't taste battle yet. Perhaps there was potential in them. What worried Ilokir most was that there were only three of them, but none of them being a Shade.

Ilokir watches Draich-na's typical Druchii sword on the table. In the corner of his eye, he sees the bartender getting nervous because of the drawing of swords in his etablishment. Perhaps a familiar sight to him, Ilokir wonders. "I took mine at the Phoenix Gate. The previous owner didn't have any use of it anymore," Ilokir is surprised of the bitterness and harshness of his voice. His mind is carried along to Chrace at that one eventful night when he took the ancestral heirloom from its standard, pursued by the forces of Hoeth. Chrace was burning that night... "In fact, it has a beauty of its own: it was made of High Elven steel, and now it serves to break High Elven steel", Ilokir says with a grin. "I hope that answers your question?"

When suddenly the door burst open, Ilokir hesitates to draw his daggers. I'm becoming paranoid if I have to stay any longer in this place. A battered druchii, who obviously had had already his share of wine this evening, stumbles inwards. The fact that he doesn't pay heed to Ilokir, Draich-na and Maldain doesn't bother Ilokir. It is obvious to Ilokir that this newcomer is more accustomed to this place than his table companions. In Vikahr, it does mean he probably knows how to handle a sword. What bothers Ilokir is that he is not a Shade.

OOC: You have all been extremely patient and I thank you for that, any other queries PM me, but lets get the ball rolling.

IC: Syndikit looked up at the rusty sign, he regularly visited here and was hoping inside would be a few mercenaries wanting involvement in the task, above all else he feared it would be empty. He was alone and the streets were quiet, he looked over his shoulder before moving in through the heavy doors. He looked first at the barman, who had indeed kept his side of the bargain. Syndkit moved towards him and embraced him, Kalash, my friend! It has indeed been too long, I thanks you for this favour, it means a lot. He then turned to the mercenaries who had shown interest to his task. He looked them over, and was pleased that enough had applied, but not enough that he could be fussy, these would have to do. He took a glass of red wine offered to him by the bartender and sipped it before addressing the group, who had obviously been chatting amongst themselves and introducing each other. Well then, it appears some did take notice of my leaflets, good! Unfortunately I am not in a position to be fussy, you will have to do, however I first wish to test your obedience and competence as a group. Earlier today a black ark of a close friend of mine brought in a batch of slaves. Unfortunately he underestimated their will and fighting skills, they escaped and are lightly armed, and there are approximately ten of them. Their leader is a giant of a man; bring him to me, alive. I can present him to my friend and will earn a portion of the ransom money. You in turn will receive some compensation for this task of coarse.

Pulling out the dusty worn helmet from his robe Syndikit began, your main objective will involve this. Some friends of mine have instructed we travel to a tomb, in the far south of the old world and find out if there is indeed a link. I believe there is a mystery, and that tomb will contain the power needed, to…well that is not for you to know, the important thing is we must move quickly. I will need each one of you, and I have also handpicked some of my best soldiers for this task, our supplies have been bought, with a large wagon drawn by two fine steeds, it did not come cheap but it should ensure we are better prepared. Of coarse we will be leaving Vikarh tomorrow, after you have captured this rebellious slave leader, he is in the wooded enclosure just north of here, I am sure you are all familiar with it. Now, I have the boat ready, with the wagon, steeds, everything needed. If you have any questions please, ask them quickly, but if you are interested you must hurry, time is of the essence, that slave needs to be caught tonight and we must leave tomorrow morning at first light. You will of coarse receive free bed and board in this fine establishment . Syndikit gave a quick look to the bartender, who nodded in agreement.

The sudden appearance of Syndikit caught Sarath by surprise, nearly chocking on a mouthful of food. Sarath took a break from eating to listen to what he had to say. Some slaves broke free? Must have been a clumsy slave driver. No matter, I don’t mind proving my mettle bringing this ringleader in. The next part of Syndikit’s speech, however, provided to be disheartening. Sarath watched closely as their patron presented the old helmet and told of the job. A tomb in the Old World, I don’t like the sound of that. I’ve heard stories of the risen dead in such locals, and I would hope to prove their existence to be true firsthand. Sarath waited for the elf to finish talking before he spoke up.

“Syndikit, firstly my name is Sarath, and it is a pleasure to work for you. Now, I am not particularly knowledgeable on this area, so I am not sure where this wooded area is exactly. Perhaps one of my fellows knows better?” Sarath glanced around at the others seated at the table.

Kalash here will lead you to the wooded area quickly, he knows his way around, so when you are ready to leave say the word, this is your only choice if you want involvement in this task

OOC: Ok quick question on this, should we just head to the wooded area, narrating our trip of course, and report when we arrive to allow you to set up a structured encounter?

Kalash will lead you when you are all ready and accepted the task, once you have all replied I will in my next mod post lead you up there and present the encounter to you all.

Maldain stood up after Syndikit had stoped talking, "My name is Maldain Tearflail, I am ready for the task ahead."

Ilokir was once again surprised by the Druchii's behaviour. He didn't understand why they assassined each other for some petty strife instead of charging their archenemy head on. Here, there was a another display of the Druchii mind he completely didn't understand: the obedience towards an employer who clearly tries to trick them with a vague story.

Ilokir is lost in thought for a wile, judging the information provided by this newcomer. There is no doubt this whole affair stinks. They had to rob the tomb of some forgotten king? Were they to fullfill the role as decoy in a scheme he didn't perceive yet? Probably, what else where mercenaries for? This Syndicit mentioned he brought his own troops..

Ilokir takes a deep breath and starts questioning Syndicit: "Syndicit is the name, you say? Your story raises a lot of questions. Apart from your vague description of our destination in the Old World and what resistance we can expect there, you have forgotten the most important part in my opinion: you didn't mention payment. We are mercenaries, we usually are partially paid in advance."

Ilokir is observing the way Syndicit reacts on this question. Perhaps he hadforgotten it. Perhaps he thought he was dealing with complete idiots. Not giving Syndicit the time to respond immediately, Ilokir continues:

"You said: 'we must leave tomorrow at first light'. I presume that means you will come with us to the Old World then? Then you probably will be our commander, since you pay for this expedition. If you have brought your elite troops, I want to ask you how many shades you did enlist for this mission? My enrollment depends on that number."

Aye, that is correct, I will be travelling with you and will be your commander. I have two very able shades for this mission, true veterans of the way of stealth. As for payment, as someone who has been in this business for hundreds of years I need not mention payment, you will ofcoarse be given an advance. Drawing a bag of coins from his robe he throws it onto the table and continues, There is 50 coins for each of you as an advance, and once we reach the tomb, should we discover anything, you will be handsomely rewarded. Ofcoarse on the way we will undoubtedly receive loot and you will be paid in increments so that you can purchase the necassary equipment for a task. And you mentioned myself as your commander, yes that is sort of correct, however I will not participate in all the fighting and donig whatever else, I need to keep a low profile, thats why you are all needed.

Ilokir's eyes are locked on Syndicit's. He relaxes a little in anticipation of Syndicit's response, and forces himself to take a sip of the disgusting bloodwine.

Sarath listens to Ilokir speak before he realizes he himself had forgotten about payment altogether. How stupid of me, payment is the most important thing for a mercenary. I’m really not cut out for this line of work. Sarath waits for Ilokir to finish before speaking up himself. “Indeed, this one raises important questions,” Sarath states while gestering in Ilokir’s direction. “What of payment, and this trip to the Old World? Answer these questions and I will be ready to take you up on the small task of the escaped slaves.”

Take your 50 from the table, the trip to the Old World is simple enough, we will take my warship and travel across the sea, once we reach our designated port; which is far south to minimise travelling, we can take off the wagon and all other supplies and begin the mission. The nature of this mission means I cannot guarantee where we will have to travel, when and where. It is very much a general idea and you must be willing to commit time and effort, offer me that, and I can offer you a reward.
