SAU XVI sign-up thread

Post by Sleekdd »

Hail, veterans, lurkers and addicts, a new SAU is about to kick off!

After the successful and entertaining works of Tarbo, it's been a bit quiet around here and I thought I'd step up and fill the gap.
So, here it is: SAU XVI for your entertainment.

Just in case you've never heard of SAU, I'll post the rules here below.

What's a SAU?
SAU stands for Slaaneshi Amongst Us. For those of you familiar with Maffia or similar games, you'll find there are a great many likenesses. Allow me to go over the basics anyway.

A SAU works in three repetitive phases: Day, Dusk and Night .

Each Day and Dusk, everyone convenes in what we call a council . Infiltrators pose as regular players and partake normally in discussions. During the Day, the Council may vote by majority to have someone removed from the game. This removal will occur once it becomes Dusk. So, if a player were to reach a majority in the opening minutes of a Day, the removal will be staved off until Dusk is reached. Votes can be moved around and retracted to choose someone else for instance.

At Dusk, all players who haven't posted during the Day are removed. This is also called an 'activity deadline'. This may very well lower the required majority and trigger a removal.

If someone is voted off, the removed player's identity is revealed and the Day/Dusk ends. Days are typically much longer than Nights.

Each Night , one player is killed by a group typically called "Infiltrators", or "Slaaneshi" for historical reasons. The Infiltrators are a small, secret group hidden amongst the players in the game.

The goal for the Infiltrators is to defeat the majority in Council; they must have at least as many members as there are other players (so they cannot be voted anymore). The goal for everyone else is to find and vote off all the Infiltrators.

Who is allowed to play?
Everyone who signs up before the game starts. All I require of prospective players is that they take the few rules to heart.

What are the rules?
Both Day, Dusk as Night last only a set period of time, during which everything must be said and decided. The actual timeframes are typically about 72-120 hours for the Day and about 48-72 for the Night. The system is as follows:

A Night has a plain and simple deadline. Players who have special abilities (such as the Infiltrators) must relay their use to the host (me), usually through PM. The Night ends when either everyone communicated use of abilities or when the deadline passes.

No editing of posts is allowed. If you post and spot a typographical error, you'll have to let it stand and see it added to the great hall of spelling mistakes. Believe me, I've added quite a few myself.
Resist the urge and don't edit.

No communication about the game is allowed with other players unless the character rules specifically state so.

Who plays the Infiltrators?
Infiltrators are players, picked randomly at the start of the game. Only the Infiltrators themselves know who they are, and they may communicate freely with each other only (and only) at Night. Notifications about roles are sent before the game kicks off. If you have not received a message before the game starts, you were not assigned a special character (but you can still play the game, of course!).

How do I sign up?
Leave a post in this thread saying you want to sign up for the game. You can sign up until the game actually starts; anyone else will be kept as reserves should someone unexpectedly drop out.

How many people can play?
There are no set limits. Typically, SAUs have between 12 and 20 players, but the more the merrier.

Wow, its been a while since the last spurt. Yes I am most certainly in.
Moding a group of Druchii.net players is much like directing the musical 'Cats' using actual cats. Frustrating, difficult, chaotic but ultimatley satisfying and a great deal of fun.

Ayxxia the Shade is hiding in the shadows and waiting to attack...

Best way to get rid of a treeman is wait until the owner has it on the table in front of him and then kick him very hard in the groin from behind. When he doubles up and smacks his face intoit, he should wreck the treeman and it will teach the little bastard not to run a treeman at 750

Its the Druchii way of gaming!

I was just wondering when another one would pop up, I got distracted with RL last time and thus lost my first SAU by not attending. I hope to make it through this one.
Though x-mas is super busy for my restaurant. I'll still try to stay in. Count me in!

Looks like we got twelve already; the list of players is growing fast. So much the better, it only means we can get started sooner. I've updated to first post to include the new players.

If you're interested in signing up for the game, just drop a line here and I'll add you to the list.
If you're wondering what a SAU is, or just want to do more research before signing up, I can warmly advise you to have a look through older SAUs. You can find a list of very good ones in the stickied 'Stories by author'-thread. Tarbo posted links to his SAUs there. They should give you a good idea of what to expect from a SAU.

All right, we now have fourteen players which is enough to get started. With the introductory story finished, there is little to hold us from beginning.

The game will start Wednesday evening at about 20h00 GMT (give or take a few minutes).
Roles will be distributed a little bit beforehand by PM so. If you have not received a PM detailing a specific role, you were not assigned a special character. But you can still give your character a unique flavor, of course. 8)

In case people are still interested in joining up, I will make a final check earlier Wednesday. You have until then to put your name up. Anyone who puts his name forth after that will be added to the reserves list, in case a player drops out for a reason.

Sorry to hear that Zardock, but I appreciate you took the effort to inform us of it.

In related news, zzug came in right on time to act as a reserve for Zardock. zzug will take over the spot and character.
I have edited the list to reflect the change.

Heh, look like I forgot to explain how to actually vote.
Anyway, it works like this:

If you want to put on vote on someone's name you just put the following text at the bottom of your post:

Vote: SleekDD

If you wish to retract your vote, you just put down:

Unvote: SleekDD

If you have a vote on someone's name and then put a vote on somebody else, an unvote of the first name is understood. You do not need to unvote if you change votes. Only if you do not want to have any vote outstanding should you resort to unvotes.

Hope this is clear and sorry for forgetting the most important part of the game. 8)
