OOC: SO we must proceed two men down. Feline your going to loss a squad mate for failing to post. Have PM-ed him but received nothing back. As for Sid, he hasn't got back to me but I know hes busy atmo.

IC: Cannis and the rest made ready. Blake joined Cannis and Matiel as they made ready to dash across the open patch of grass. Half the squad formed up at the tree line, weapons raised and ready. Then they were off Cannis and Matiel, Bess and Jones, with Blake his long black coat flapping behind him, as they moved. They could see fighting in the trench, but still Harnes, Harris, Winsor, and Skrag, opened fire sending hot las their way. groups A and D, hit the ground and opened up with their own rifles as B and C ran up to join them. They were half way across the grass.

~ "Brenner, where the frag is that tank fether! Am attempting to draw the truck off the bridge, engage as soon as you have lose!" ~ Barked Frost. He received no immediate reply from Seargent Brenner, and snarled as he ran to take up his new position. Fox had disappeared into a build, and Frost trusted the rest of his squad were taking up their new positions, as las fire continued to batter the butchers. They were all relocated now, and he hear Hawk upon fire, with the loud whip crack of his Long Las, taking off the neck and shoulder of a traitor. Fox and he himself opened fire, ducking back as a few shots winged their way. The fire from the sandbags and the APC crew was spreading out, ad soon Bear and Snake were making better shots. Without Brenners Tank Fether though it owuld be lost.

Scarecrow also heard Frosts call, and barked a quick order at Bragg. The big man ,took up his Tank Fether, and fired. The rocket, missed the front of the APC, but did manage to blow out the sandbags around their side of the bridge. There cover gone five of the traitors fell. Snake-Eater, Carlson and Jackson, opened fire with their own weapons, and so a heavy storm was falling on the defended bridge. Suddenly a man with a small vox unit on his back, the officer Hawk had tried to shot earlier popped up. With one smooth motion he aimed a battered old las pistol and fired. The shot was clean, and went through Snake-Eater, right between the eyes, sending his brains out the other side. He was dead instantly.

The traitors took heart from their officers clearly mad bravery, and they increased firing, as he ducked down again, wary of Hawks aim.

Brenner saw the fight raging on in the trench, but was wary to move. He became indecisive. The Trench or the Mortar? If it hadn't been for Templars skills up close, he would have fallen by now. As it was he kept his own, but was unable to press forward, and take the trench outright.

For a miracle nobody seemed to be firing at them anymore, admittedly trench 1 was occupied by the fight between Brenner’s men and the cultists, but the sheriff could hardly believe the apathy displayed by the mortar crew in trench 2. He was certain it wouldn't last.

"B and C, fire on trench 2. D, with me!" with that Cannis lurched up off the ground and back into a mad cap run, head down and ready to drop at the first sign of weapons fire. In spite of himself Cannis was glad to see young Blake running alongside him; they were going to have to clear that trench the old fashioned way
I have got to get my hands on one of those, he thought, casting a longing eye over the commissar’s chainsword, but now was not the time.

Rinse and repeat, A and D charge forwards, hopefully making it to the trench and charging the traitors there boxing them in between the team led by Templar and his own men. B and C will lay down covering fire on trench 2 (which is what I wanted last time, but I suppose I didn't make it very clear) and then join A and D if they can. Up and over to glory!

OOC: I will be away for a while, see the OOC thread for details.

OOC - Gonna have to be a quick one as I'm going out, I'll be back late Monday so if the next deadline is the 3rd I should be able to get a post in.

IC -

Frost cursed with anger as he saw the rocket from the tank fether sail past the front of the tanks and instead blow out half a trench. At least enemies were dying, but he wasn't worried about the heretics as a lasgun was more than enough to deal with those. It was the APC that had him worried, he still couldn't see if it was completely off the bridge yet or not and knew that if it was in their way they would struggle to get past. He didn't vox over any new commands to his squad, that an order in itself as to keep firing as he had already instructed. Instead he switched his vox back to the main channel as he ducked back behind the wall to reload his rifle.

~ "Damnit Brenner get your men to aim straight, we need that APC taken care of before we can advance!" ~

Reloading his rifle he waited for a pause in enemy fire before he leaned back around the corner of the wall and continued in his duty to the Emperor.

Still just firing, trying to draw the APC away from the bridge so Brenner can nuke it. Using houses / walls as cover as to best remain unseen in the process.

OOC - post is coming now Dauricha, sorry for the lack of posts this past week... 2 assignmnets due and a performance all friday night left me with no time

IC - FIghting in the trenches was close and violent, blood covered the blade of his hatchet as he pulled it free from the battered chest of his foe. The Emperor will be pleased in this work we have done for him this day as these traitors lie cold in the pale embrace of death.. No time to rest he moved up quickly to where the other traitorous filth were engaging Druid and Thanatos in violent exchange of swipes from their knives and any punch they could get in.

Letting out a deep yell he leapt at one of the traitors, bringing his weapon down with all his strength to fell the one engaged with Druid.

*****

Druid dodged another swipe, beads of sweat running down his forehead. His oponent seemed to be more skilled wit hthe weapon than what he was and was far more at home in the confined trench then him. Stepping in he brought his knee up to try and wind the traitor hut he stepped back as quickly as he stepped in and countered, striking him in the jaw with a slightly off punch. Curisng he spat blood in his foes face as he heard the yell of Templar.

*****

Thanatos fought with experience at his side. Not wasting time he grabbed at the wrist of his foe with his free hand before making another strike.

Will continue with the trench fighting.
______________________________________________

Scarecrow gave brief nods to his men around him. Grabbing their weapons they kept low as they moved with him.

~"This is Scarecrow, taking my squad to outflank the enemy in the square."~

Looking at the Bragg he barked one more quick order before he moved out. "Keep that weapon firing. Target priority is the APC and then weapon emplacements."

Signalling Fenrir and Joker he moved out keeping lowtowards the buildings. To successfully outflank they needed to keep hidden.

Will take Joker and Fenrir and move to outflank the enemy by moving around the square, using the buildings as cover.

OOC: Once again I have forced us all to wait for Feline. I have not been able to contact him. From now on there will be no more waiting, and I will assume Feline is no longer in. Sorry for the wait gentlemen.

IC: The three guardsmen of Scarecrows squad who were in the trench, fought like the beasts their regiment was named after. Templar killed another of the traitorous guardsman. This one had a eight pronged brand on his face, and was still screeching gibberish as he fell. Druid and Thanatos were a step behind their comrade, helping him out where they could, but letting the CQC specialist take the lead. He was beginning to tire though, and was slowing. All three of them were covered in cuts and bruises, and it owuld only take the death of one of them to turn the battle.

Cannis with groups A and D made the final dash to the lip of the trench, slamming down just in front of it B and C, came forwards, and knelt opening up fire, to hit the mortar team across the river, the shoots of Farnes, Harris, Winsor and Skrag, kicked up grass and dirt, around the mortars position, the distance to great for accurate fire. Blake, thumbed the power button on his chainsword and leapt into the trench with a violent cry. They were amongst the startled heretics, and the slaughter was quick and bloody. Groups B and C came over to the lip of the trench, the mortar team taking to flight, at seeing their comrades butchered, and the fire coming their way. Cannis, Blake, Matiel, Bess, Jones, Druid, Thanatos, and especially Templar, were all cover in blood, the mutilated corpses of their foes at their feet. The trenches had been won. Brenner with Crazyhorse, Brooklyn, Lizz, and White Rice their cover sheepishly, missing out on the fight, because of their Sergeants indecisiveness.

Well Gentlemen what next? Spoke Blake. His face was quite pale, and now the fight was over he seemed smaller, his left hand shoke. The fight in the north was over, but the bridge in the settlement square was still being fought over, and they heard the violent whump thunk of Braggs Tank Fether again.

Bragg, hit the front of the crude APC, taking off some of its armour, but doing little else, apart from sending scrap metal everywhere. Frost cursed. The APC wasn't going to move. He was burning through clips quickly, and though, thanks to their many fire angles they had the jerry rigged vehicle, and crew pinned, they were still unable to get rid of it. He and his men would have to get more creative. He hoped Scarecrow, would be able to outflank them, as he opened up again, spraying las bolts, at the sandbags and the APC.

Scarecrow was unaffected by the death of Snake-Eater. Brennner clearly hadn't been training his men right. He told Bragg, Carlson, and Jackson to keep up fire, as he Joker and Fenrir, went to out flank the enemy. They crept through empty alleys and buildings, the sounds of gunfire from the square echoing oddly. They heard the heavy crack of the gun on the APC, clearly they had been able to get it working without showing themselves to Frosts sniper. He and his two squad mates crept up some stairs, and peeking a glance form the second floor, of the old apartments they had wandered into looked out on the square.

He took it in in a instant. He and a birds eye view. The APC on the bridge lay to his left, and Frost with his squad, and half of Brenners to the right, keeping up the las fire. He saw half a dozen of the APCs crew, and the remaining heretics who had been guarding the bridge, cowering behind sandbags or wreckage firing blindly, despite the efforts of the officer to rouse them. He could open up fire from here, but the second he did, they would be exposed, for the old walls of the apartment building wouldn't stop lasfire for long. He felt the wait of the flare in one of his pockets. Dare he use it now?

OOC: NEXT DEADLINE 4TH OF AUGUST. Once again apologies for the wait.

Frost gritted his teeth as another shot from the rocket launcher glanced harmlessly off the front of the armoured truck, sending shrapnel flying into the air but doing nothing to stop the truck and its gunner. His plan had worked well thus far, splitting the enemy fire as to thin it out whilst also distracting the crew of the truck while Brenner tried to destroy it. The other Sergeant however seemed incapable of doing so, his squad fether clearly in need of better training in aiming his weapon. He cursed, quickly realising that it would only be a few moments more before the traitors either sallied forth and charged him or returned their fire to one localised spot. Bear and Snake seemed safe enough, but if they turned all their guns on Fox, Hawk or himself their lack of cover could mean their end.

In the name of the blasted Emperor, if you need something doing, do it your god damned fragging self!

~ "Squad, reform on me. Our allies seem incapable of nuking the APC so we'll have to clear the bridge ourselves!" ~

His message came across laced with anger, not aimed at his squad but at those nearby. They needed the APC dead. There was no time for all this bad aiming and vox silence, but there was no time either to question the whereabouts or actions of Brenner. Maybe the other Sergeant was tied up in combat, or worse.

There was only one thing left to do.

~ "Cease firing at the APC, friendlies are moving in!" ~

As soon as his squad forms up around him, Frost will lead a crouching run charge across to the bridge, fanning out and zig zagging to avoid the heavy gun on the truck. As they run Hawk will provide covering fire, in the hope of either killing the gunner or at least keeping his head down. Frost assumes that once they reach the stationary APC they will be too close for the gunner to shoot them, so they will use it as cover and, leaning around its edge, start shooting the squad behind / on it. Once they are across and the gunner is down Hawk will take out his sidearm and join them.

OOC - a bit shorter than planned but I'm kind of sick right now...

IC - He was tired and blooied, his hatchet was slick in his hand, wet with blood
and sweat. Taking in deap breaths he looked at the other Shadows seeing that they too were worn out with the fighting. The fighting had been hard but it had been worth it as he purged the heretic filth for the Emperor. Looking towards the Commissar he noted with pleasure that he too had got down in the thick of it, risking his life to purge the enemy. That rated well in Tempar's books.

Not as stuck up and prissy as thought. Maybe he's not so bad. Pleased with his work in the trneches he gave off a beaming smile while letting the others work out their next plan of action.

*****

Thanatos pressed his lasgun into the ground, using it to rest as Commissar Blake spoke to them. Hearing the crackling of las fire from within the town he knew that they'd be heading there.

Clearing his throat he spoke to the Commissar. "Sir, the fighting is still thick within the town and there are only Sergeant Schofield with the rest of the squad and whatever of Sergeant Brenner's men are within the walls to fend them off. We'd best move in to support them."

_____________________________________________________

Scarecrow looked out onto the enemy emplacements, the enemy clearly visable from the vantage point. Were the building a sturdier one they'd be able to use the advantage to open fire upon their emplacement but the walls of this building woukdn't take the return fire for long. That is unless they could blind or distract the enemy.

Feeling the flare in his pocket he knew he could use it. Signalling to Fenrir and Joker to ready to fire he pulled the flare out, hoping it would work.

Scarecrow will hurl the flare into the enemy emplacement and then the others will open fire with Scarecrow following suit. Once return fire commences and becomes a little too intensive they'll move to withdraw from the building.

Scarecrow took not even a moment to ponder his decision. He pull the tag on the flare and pulled, thick red smoke already pouring from it as it left his hand. The thick red cloud boiled up, and he Fenrir and Joker fired blindly down into the red haze. Suddenly over the vox their was a message.

Incoming fire on smoke take cover.

To the north Brenner said nothing, and Cannis looked not to happy at his fellow sergeant. If Blake was frustrated he made no comment, flicking his chainsword on and off a few times to get any fragments of bone or flesh out of the mechanism. They heard the sporadic fire of las guns from further in the settlement, and their own weapons ready, they headed off to give their fellow Storm Hounds a hand. They saw patch of red smoke flittering up into the haze of battle over the settlement before the Commissar and Sergeants heard over their vox beads.

Incoming fire on smoke take cover.

Frost, had had enough. His squad regrouped on him, still keeping up the fire. They made ready to head across the wide open town square. Hawk stayed behind, as Frost gave a battle cry and the rest of the squad charged. The officer of the traitors peaked over the remaining sandbags. Hawk had him in his sights in a moment, and popped off a shoot taking the heretics head clean off in a spray of blood, brain and bone. Frost saw the shot but before he could say anything he heard something over the vox.

Incoming fire on smoke take cover.

Frost called for his men to hit the ground, and with not a moment to spare. They heard deafening roar, of engines above them, accompanied by the deep boom of Heavy Bolters, that stitched a path of mini craters in the squares stone before Frost and his squad. A moment latter, they heard the whining screech of rockets being launched, followed by the head garring sound of explosions. Frost and his squad could only hear the hiss of white noise for a few moments, as they shakily got to their feet.

Target hit and destroyed, be careful next time, my tail took a scratch from dome anti air up ahead, take that out before you ask for any more air support.
Came the voice of the Valkires pilot over the vox. The smoke began to clear. The bridge still stood though cracks could be seen in the strong stone, and their was a groan of metal. The APC was nothing but scraps of metal, the Traitors and their cover were gone entirely. The western side of the river settlement had been cleared.

OOC - Sorry Dauricha but I just started a new job which is getting in the way of my roleplaying, and also am a little bit stumped as to what to do next, I was waiting for other replies so I could work alongside their actions. I don't think I will have the time to continue with this, and to be honest despite me finding it very entertaining and a great idea, I am not a 40k player (not even a fantasy player for that matter) and am just not as interested in it as I should be. Hopefully you will be able to find a replacement?

Scrambling out of the trench, filled as it was by mud, blood and corpses, Cannis looked on as the angel on their shoulders took out something big
Must be that APC Frost was yelling about,. Whatever it was it had been a daring move well executed, while the foot sloggers could never hope to compete with the navy's golden boys for honour or prestige they could at least match them in usefulness, but not by sitting in a hole in the ground.

With the flight of the mortar crew the trenches were taken, phase one completed, it was now time to move into the settlement.
"Law men on me," he growled and with a nod of appreciation towards the Scarecrow’s men began jogging towards the bridge.

With no more enemy troops on this side of the settlement they were able to make good time, but as the bridge and the shattered wreck of a carrier came into view Cannis was already planning their next move.

For the gunship to blow the com post to hell the anti aircraft bunkers first needed to be destroyed, a job for Jericho if there ever was one, the problem would be in getting close enough and away again without being blown straight into the arms of the sweet and fluffy lord. Certainly the map was no good, it was nowhere near detailed enough to plan out the intricacies, they would need a closer look before deciding anything concrete. With that in mind Cannis put off any further planning on that front until they had cleared the far side of the settlement, reaching for his vox bead Cannis said

"Trenches clear, Sheriff request's rendezvous in the large building opposite bridge on the right, then cross the bridge by squad with the rest of the platoon covering." Taking his own advice Cannis set off towards the building, staying out of open ground and moving quickly, you never knew what the enemy might have up their sleeves.

Cannis and his reassembled squad will make their way through the settlement to the bridge and then to a building in cover to the right of it.

OOC: I am sorry if this is too much like power gamming, but I figured since there were no more troops on this side of the settlement they would be able to move fairly fast, and it's not too much of a stretch to imagine a large house opposite the bridge.

It's been a bit over a month since the last post here, and we believe it's probably best to close this group. Pity it didn't last, but I hope you enjoyed yourselves for the time it has.

Unless, of course, a new host steps up. ;)

I'll leave this open for a bit longer if you'd like to say or discuss something.
