As the two armies charged together across the valley battlefield Umbra had disappeared. He tried to convince hisself that it was to move into a better position to attack from or to scout out a weak front in the enemy line, but it was sheer cowardice that drove him into the cover of scrub before the lines met. Truth was he had been near panic since they had landed, not having four walls within sight was alien to him and he had felt increasingly agoraphobic as the druchii had marched inland, the ravine had helped slightly but the thought of having to leave it took him to breaking point and the sight of hated kin armed and ready to take his innards out had pushed him over.

From his leafy hideaway Umbra cursed the list of people and circumstance that had forced him to such extremes of the world: it began with Renus, the elf who had tried to kill him in his sleep and had got his just rewards; followed swiftly by the rest of the thieves he had taxed who drove him out of the caravan, his home and the only life he knew; next was the recruiter who had arrived in the tavern he was drinking away his woes and preyed on his sorrow and inebriation to convince him that the witchking's army was the right way for him; the merchant who had paid him to protect his stall and the barman who had served him the drinks that had clouded his judgement and a great many other imagined criminals got shares of the near-silent verbal lashings, even if they weren't quite deserved.

The majority of the battle had taken place before Umbra glanced up and saw the state of affairs. While he had cowered and chuntered three asur regiments had collapsed and the Ellyrion horsemen had been slaughtered, but more importantly and closer to him he noticed a female corsair struggling with a pair of chracians and without Umbra's notice or consent his body moved of it's own volition. His hand reached up and unslung the stolen bow that he had only ever fired once before many years ago, his legs began moving toward the huge high elves with their even larger axes, his fingers nocked an arrow to the bowstring, he felt the bow go taught and the new paint crack under his hand. The arrow took off and by some uncanny stroke of luck found it's way straight into one chracian's throat and Umbra stood dumbfounded for a moment, however he quickly regained his senses and announced his presence in the most disdainful voice he could muster through his terror, "pay attention, you'll get yourself killed," but he was sure the corsair would hear the hollowness in the words, so Umbra capitalised on his sudden burst of courage and sprinted the last few yards to the rallying white lions.

Before he had covered the distance one of the axe-wielding asur noticed Umbra's charge and moved to intercept him, raising his great weapon above his head. Umbra dived to the side to avoid the white lion's overhead swing that threatened to cleave him in half. From where he landed, on his side in the dirt Umbra scrambled to his knees and punched his assailant in his unarmoured knee while simultaneously dragging his leg out from under him, bringing the much larger elf down to Umbra's level. Before the chracian could regain his feet Umbra threw hisself onto his chest, struggling to pin the larger elf under his meager weight, and began raining punches onto the asur's face. Eventually, after feeling the wet crunch of cartilage collapsing and the grind of a broken jawbone falling inwards, Umbra got up from the ruined chracian and stomped on his throat for good measure.

Introducing Umbra and then beating a white lion and manually closing his windpipe. Looking forward to RPing with you all.

Vaulting and sliding through the ranks of Asur, Nathra grabbed hold of a surprised archer, one arm around his chest, the other around his throat. Less than a second later, four arrows thudded into his chest, fatally wounding him. Knowing these were meant for her, the dark haired beauty whispered 'Thank you' into the dying elf's ear before letting him fall to the ground. Rushing forward to her next target, she leaped high into the air, flipping over the shoulder of a blond haired soldier. As she arced over him, she grabbed his head and snapped his neck with a twist, landing gracefully and walking calmly towards a shaking High Elf, his sword held out to meet her. Her pace quickened to a run and he barely had time to parry a strike aimed to his shoulder. Nathra had feinted her attack however, and the shade moved her sword across in a figure of eight motion before gauging him across the chest with a deep wound, breaking ribs and opening him up. He fell with a scream. Holding her blade up, she paused to see where next she should strike. It was at this moment that the knights appeared from the rear, moving into the struggling archers. One, wearing a blue horse-hair plume on his ithilmar helm, pointed at the shade with his sword and called out a challenge.

He dares challenge me? Might I actually get one? Nathra had never backed down from a fight in her entire life and she certainly wasn't going to start now! The beautiful shade locked her emerald green eyes with the Asur knight and offered him a feral grin. She pulled her sword across her chest as she ducked and weaved effortlessly through the throng of fighting elves, slashing out with precise strikes at any Asur who impeded her progress. As she ran the shade got a good look at her opponent, he was obviously a noble-born judging by the craft of his equipment and the arrogant sneer on his face.

The shade had a good momentum going as she sprinted towards her target, Nathra grinned evilly just as the two were about to clash, the shade used a small pile of High Elf corpses to propel herself off them at the noble Asur. She twirled through the air, her right arm held out wide as her sword came down in a vicious overhead strike, changing the angle of attack with every spin. He tried to parry the attack sideways, but Nathra tilted her sword up, pulled it in and grabbed the hilt with her left hand and swept it across his legs just as she landed and cartwheeled past him. Her ferocity took her well past the startled Noble and she was moving towards another archer, whom she back-flipped over and, holding her sword in both hands, sliced from forehead to crotch as she landed in a crouch at his feet. Nathra savagely kicked the poor fellow towards her armoured opponent.

The shade jumped round the falling high elf and came up the top-side of the noble, her sword held negligently in her left hand, she strutted towards him as fresh blood from her most recent kill cascaded down the sensuous curves of her flesh. Nathra flashed him an amused grin and pouted her perfect lips in a kiss. The outraged noble charged at her with a sudden fury, she was toying with him and he did seem to appreciate it. The nimble shade jumped, ducked, dodged and sidestepped each of his attacks effortlessly, not once raising her blade to retaliate.

Nathra deftly parried and riposted his latest attack, catching his blade on the hilt of her own and twisting her weapon in such a way that took his sword well out of the her danger zone. Simultaneously, the shade grabbed him by his armoured collar and viciously headbutted him right on the nose! The shade felt his nose shatter on her forehead, dazing her slightly but the adrenaline was pumping and she paid it no heed. She placed both her feet on his thighs and let herself fall, pulling the elf over with her as she screamed the the ear-piercing shriek of an extremely pissed off harpy. Nathra brought her legs up as she landed and rolled the Asur over her to land on his back, she used the same momentum to roll over him.

Straddling him like a lover, the raven-haired beauty looked him right in the eyes. "Are you satisfied now?" Her sword fell violently between his eyes and Nathra gave it a savage twist just for good measure!

Taking him down in style!

... Hopefully!

Gaelus watched in fascination as the blood surged from his foe's neck.

I really must invest in a fountain that behaves similarly once I reclaim my home. Simply amazing.

He glanced back in his wake. Three fresh corpses littered the ground he had charged through moments before. Two of which probably never even saw their deaths coming. This gave Gaelus pause. He wondered if such an unfortunate incident could happen to him too.

Stop dillying and pay attention Gaelus or it will!

Gaelus spat. A sudden, foul metallic taste filled his mouth. Like it was coming from somewhere at the base of his skull and then through his mouth. Magic... the Dhar wind, he thought. He grimaced. So the sorceress's finally decided to show up. He looked up towards the direction he had last seen them while their battle lines were forming during what seemed so very long ago. A great dark ethereal shape ebbed across the sky. He smiled in satisfaction as it seemed to give the high elf mage a real sense of peril.

A glimmer of reflected light returned Gaelus to himself. He looked in it's direction. Not 30 paces away a block of well decorated, grim faced Asurii were moving towards the massacre. Dressed from top to toe in ilthimar, they were an impressive site. Gaelus reached up and touched the fresh wound on his face just aside his helmet's cheek guard that had reminded him of his own mortality. He knew his fellows were skilled, and that theyd proven many times over this battle they were no cowards, but neither were they stupid or foolish. Against a fully plated knight with shield and longsword, handbows and short swords seemed drastically inferior. Luckily, Saulk felt the same way.

To me! he cried through the melee, Handbows rally! Make ranks!

Gaelus and his brethren quickly disengaged from any currently melee and moved to their sergeant, allowing the druchii warriors to fill in the gaps.

We'll fight these newcomers at a time and place of our choosing! If they so want us, let them chase us and wear themselves out while doing so. Til that plate armor and shield wear on them like a mountain. They'll find nothing but a peppering of bolt shot and exhaustion for their troubles! , the handbows gave a cry of assent to Saulk's words. Withdraw! The handbows in quick order slipped through the warriors to move behind them in a supportive role. Turn about! Make ready! Fire!

Gaelus will move with his unit into a more supportive position. From here he will skirmish the knights with his unit if they decide to give chase. (OOC bit of artistic licencing) Saulk will have moved them into a position behind and to the flank of the warriors, the flank that is nearest the chracians so that they may provide support here as well

The magical battle raged overhead. Flashes of white and gold contrasted with forks of purple lightning and bolts of pure darkness issued from the ethereal snake's maw. The Mage's eagle nimbly twisted and turned to avoid the attacks as his master summoned his powers to counter. Strange lights illuminated the forces below as blasts and thunderous booms issued from above.

Umbra had just violently beaten the life out of a Chracian, and the look of cold admiration upon Heldrana's face told the shade that his intervention had been welcome. His keen sense of self-preservation had allowed him to get this far into the melee without any mishaps, and the slightly built male was not about to break the habit of a lifetime. Heldrana took the brunt of the blows, swinging her axe defensively, whilst Umbra took advantage of any distraction. Chracians were knocked to their feet to allow Heldrana to help end pitiful existences with lethal blows of her two handed weapon.

A hail of deadly bolts punched through the air as the Druchii riders closed the gap between themselves and the Chracians as they cantered in from the left. The first to shoot had wheeled their horses around whilst they reloaded their crossbows, as those riding behind them shot at the ferocious Asur. It was a well timed cycle, and at no point were there no riders shooting into the White Lions with hate filled precision. Hand axes were hurled, and the odd arrow made it from long range to bring down a horse or one of its lightly armoured riders, but the horsemen were doing well. Speed and distance gave them the advantage over their axe wielding cousins, and they brought them down with cold efficiency. The shade and the corsair kept moving, careful to remain out of the way of the crossbow bolts.

With the Chracians being pursued by the Hag and her Witch Elves, it was almost as if they were being herded towards the riders for the kill. The ground shook behind them with the hydra's tread, heads snatching down and grabbing terrified Asur as it rumbled onwards. Some were eaten, others were crushed by the vicious jaws of the monsters many heads and thrown across the battlefield to land broken, amidst their shocked kinsmen. Khitai ran with the brides of Khaine, the whoops and bloodthirsty screams music to accompany their dance of death and they hacked down their traitor kin of Ulthuan.

The grace of Anath Raema was upon Nathra as she toyed with the High Elf knight, before killing him with the sensuality of a lover. As the swordsman died, his mind was filled with shame at how he had allowed himself to have become so easily distracted by her beauty. An error that had cost him his life. Her harpy cloak billowed behind her as she stalked forwards, her sword dripping with fresh crimson blood as she hunted for her next victim. She didn't have to search hard. It seemed one of the knights fighting nearby was a friend, or perhaps relative of the one she had slain. He looked alike, blond hair, tall, with sun kissed skin. His face was twisted with anger and grief as he cast his eyes upon the convulsing corpse of his kinsman before looking at the shade that had slaughtered him. The knight bore a bleeding heart on his shield, along with one of their cursed runes. He lunged at Nathra with a low stance, dropping his shield forwards to cover as much of his body as he was able, simultaneously thrusting a sword towards her midriff with his right arm.

As the knights marched forwards, the leader of Cade's unit gave the order to move. Not forwards, but around and to the rear. Regimented and under strict orders, the elites were not in the position to reform and face the way they had came. Their hands were full with the larger Druchii force before them, and the ailing archers. Of the hundreds that had joined them on the field, hardly fifty now remained. Bolts were fired into the rear ranks of ithilmar clad nobles, some glancing of the finely wrought armour, others finding their place as they broke through chainmail or found other weaknesses in the joins. Thirty knights fell with the first volley before their kinsmen realised what was happening. A call from the commander was issued, and the rear two lines turned and made a shield wall. The march of the knights was halted as they were assailed from the front and rear. They could only pray that the Mage would be with them soon.

Umbra and Heldrana are fighting the Chracians, the Witch Elves and the Hag manoeuvring around to attack from the rear. About 200 White Lions now left.

Nathra has moved on to her next victim, who has stabbed at her with his sword, aiming for her belly. He is armed with a shield in his left hand, and a hand-and-a-half sword in his right. He wears a helm, chest plate, shoulder, shin, and arm plates, and a chain tunic that is ankle length. ((You got a high roll on your last post, so the attack was a success. Hope this is enough detail this time! ;) ))

Cade is now behind the Asur ranks with the rest of his unit, and is firing into the Asur. They have stopped their march and are making a shield wall.

Khitai is in with the Witch Elves, attacking the Chracians from the rear

Kailleth is still at the rear of the main force. ((Loot roll missed due to no communication))

Gaelus's unit wheeled out of the melee with a discipline far mature for the length of time they have been a cohesive unit. He was all to glad of it. Going toe to toe with the heavily armored, well trained royalty of Ulthuan did not sound like a pleasant experience for one so lightly equipped. So when they disengaged, Gaelus at once felt relief. The knights were too embroiled and well disciplined to break ranks and give pursuit. As such, Saulk was able to guide the unit with ease around the flank and to the rear of the knights. Nearly a full rank fell before those at the rear even realized the predicament there found now found themselves in.

In drilled practice, their knightly lord barked a comment and the hind two ranks turned to face the handbows. In unison, their shields interlocked. The closest rank kneeling and smashing their shields to the ground with the second rank locking their shields overhead providing a wall of metallic protection to their unit from the rear. Gaelus knew at once that any further bolts would never find an opening through that shield wall. This didn't really bother him, however, as the damage was done. Thirty some odd well armored bodies lay on the ground and two full ranks of the knights were now effectively incapacitated from any melee to the front while they addressed the threat of the handbows.

Saulk seemed to take this in as well. He knew he would have to maintain a position to the knights rear to provide the threat of an armor piercing bolt to the back but he slowly began move the unit to the right in order to provide assistance to the other active areas of the battlefield. In an advantageous position between the Asur knights and embroiled witch elfs, the handbows could more effectively provide overwatch and support to the rest of the druchii units.

Straight ahead, magical energies cracked in the sky just above them. The mage's eagle dipped and spun in an effort to keep its rider safe. The mage hurled bolts of all the colors of magic at the floating serpent in an effort to regain control of the winds over the battlefield. Without it, and without the mage's support, the Asur were lost. However, should the mage win it's skirmish, the tide could yet still turn. An opening between the two great melees in the battlefield provided a clear view of this dance of magics. Gaelus at once saw the chance and did not wait for Saulk to see it too.

Sergeant! The mage is distracted! We must strike him down now and the field will be ours!, Gaelus blurted out without a thought.

Damnit Cade, when I want your opinion I'll damn well ask for it! Your job here is to do what you're bloody well told!, and with a step and a turn he punched Gaelus full on in the gut.

Gaelus doubled over in pain. You bastard. You're making a big mistake there...

Stand up soldier, you're not relieved yet. Saulk barked. Gaelus exerted a pained effort to stand. The pain from the corporal punishment slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Feeling better? Saulk asked, Fortunately for you, you have a point but step out of line again and I swear you'll regret ever coming on this expedition. You've done well today, don't give me reason to make this battle a unfortunate experience for you.

Bastard. I have use for you just yet, but once I don't, I'll make you remember and regret this indiscretion...

Saulk turned towards the embattled mage, Handbows make ready! Let's bring that pompous bastard to the ground! Aim! Fire!

Gaelus released. While he highly doubted his bolt could ring true against a moving target in the air, an entire unit of handbows would surely act on the eagle as a blunderbuss would against a flighted fowl. A massive block of bolts left to meet the mage in the air, and gaelus hoped that the mage would only notice it far too late.

Gaelus will move with the unit around to the other corner of the knights. They will then take aim and fire upon the mage as he is battling the flying serpent.

In one fluid motion Nathra rolled backwards off the still-warm corpse of the Asur knight, stretching out into a handstand as blood dripped down her neck and onto her cheek, she landed smoothly on her pretty feet and quickly recovered her longsword. Half an hour ago the Nobless was bored, her blood cold and still. Now her blood was fire, adrenaline coursed her veins and she felt the excitable tension of battle fill her like butterflies in her belly exploding like an erupting volcano. It had been too long since Nathra had tasted blood. Too long!

No sooner than she retrieved her sword another Asur erupted from the swirling melee with a thrust at her midriff, his shield held low protecting his body. Nathra witnessed it all with perfect clarity; his angry face, his blond hair, his grief stricken grimace, his eyes filled with burning hatred... The raven-haired shade stepped minutely to the left, swinging her left arm down and round to grab at the High Elf's wrist with her free hand, she stepped back and pulled him forward even as she swung her sword down hard at his elbow between the armour plates protecting his arm.

As the female druchii pulled, the knight pushed, stepping himself wholly into a shield-bash to push his opponent away. Nathra let go of his wrist, turned her right shoulder into his shield even as she transferred her sword from her right hand to her left. She brought her left arm round hard and propelling herself with her feet, rolled across his shield. Her sword swung round in a wide arc and even as she landed back to back with the noble in a crouch, Nathra looked over her shoulder as the sword completed it's spin, the point entered the nobles waist just below the ribs and shattered his spine.

Nathra reigned in her sword and brought her left foot back as she stepped up behind him, she put her right shoulder into his arm pit and whispered. "Won't you people ever learn?" Before she threw his callously to the ground, breaking his neck.

Severing his arm/hand.
Shattering his spine.
Breaking his neck.

They got he upper hand, high elfs falling one by one. Khitai stood in the middle of the hateful, crazy witches who screamed and danced to the song of death.

They were chaseing the chracians and wasn't far behind. Being amongst the witches, Khitai felt his rage and blood boiling over. A hate grew in him that he never felt before, a good feeling.
He took a firm grip on his scimitars and rushed forward thru the females, he wanted to reach combat first. He pushed on forwards and soon he was there, in the back of the chracians with the females in his heals.

This was going to be bloody. Attacking from behind the chracians was going to be hit hard and brutal and leaveing them no possibility to any defense on the first charge.
Khitai held his weapons high, and slashed the two first from shoulder and down, ending the cut at their low back. They fell lifeless.

He now stood I the second rank from behind with his weapons pointing down words, ready to bring them up and send some more fine elfs to the afterlife.

Sliceing threw first rank ending in second rank from behind, ready to kill some more high elfs

Umbra got up from the broken chracian more than a little surprised at his own handiwork, especially since before now his entire combat experience was extorting those weaker than him or more recently his solitary employer, this combined with the nod of approval from the obviously much-more-fighty corsair boosted his already surprising courage and Umbra shouted an almost wordless challenge at the nearest chracian. However, when the white lion turned away from the collection of draconian heads and elated screams that suggested a lot of asur would be very dead very soon and began to march toward him Umbra balked and very nearly went back to his bush, but the chracian was too close and just as Umbra decided that he should probably turn tail and run he was forced to duck rapidly.

The reason for his sudden change of priorities was a five foot axe that seemed utterly determined to remove his head. With his choice made for him and his head safely attached for now Umbra readied hisself for the chracian's next attack, which came almost immediately as the chracian switched his blade around with unnatural speed for a weapon so large and swung again, aiming lower to remove Umbra's legs instead. Umbra punched his clothe-wrapped knuckles down into the flat side of the axe before it reached him, driving it down into the dirt below his feet and stepped forward within the chracian's reach before they could react, raising his knee into the their crotch as he went. The white lion near instantly forgot the axe now embedded in the ground as he doubled over in pain, while Umbra simultaneously pulled a throwing axe from the chracian's belt and brought his right fist up to meet the their falling stomach, sending the chracian to his knees through the combined throbbing in his crotch and gut and lack of breath.

Umbra realised that despite the fact the chracian was almost incapacitated with pain that the fight was still fairly even and split their skull with their own throwing axe before things got out of hand, then tossed the axe at the back of a chracian moving engage the charging witch elves.

another one bites the dust in a rather underhand manner. Sorry about how late it was.

Umbra saw the great axe coming and knocked it down into the churned ground. The Asur warrior grunted, having not expected such a parry. He certainly didn't expect the knee to the groin. The pain incapacitated him for long enough for Umbra to punch him in the stomach, then steal a hand axe from his belt. Winded, the White Lion fell to his knees. Quick to react, the Druchii knocked the helm from his head before bringing down the axe and cleaving the elf's skull with a dull crack. Umbra then scanned for another target and sent the axe spinning through the air. It buried itself in a shoulder of a distant Chracian, who roared in fury before reaching back and pulling it loose. Wounded, he would make an easier target for a Witch Elf.

Running with the Brides of Khaine, Khitai relished the carnage he was sowing. The battlefield was already sodden with the blood of the wounded or fallen. His urge to kill was overwhelming, and he sprinted ahead of the holy warrior women, eager to fell as many cowards as he could. A slash here, a chop there... heads were severed, torsos opened up, and Asur fell. Any archers unlucky enough to get caught up in the charge of death were cut down like wheat. Shrieks of wild joy mingled with the anguished cries of their cousins as the stragglers were hacked down. It seemed one of the Chracians found his courage, or desired to die fighting, as he halted running to merge with his brethren and turned to fact the Khainite. With a furious swipe, he swung his great axe from right to left, aiming to cleave the Druchii in two through his waist.

The smell of blood and spilled entrails set the hydra's senses alight. Having obediently ambled forwards at the will of the beastmasters driving it with long spears and whips, it could no longer control its feral instincts. Several of its heads thrashed wildly around, some snapping at each other as it struggled with its thoughts. With a bellow, the monster belched out a plume of green fire which poured over the last organised cluster of archers. Their unified screams ended abruptly as their scorched bodies fell to the ground in a thick pool of toxic green ichor. The hydra let out a roar then ran forwards, right into the Chracians. Several of the Witch Elves were snapped up or trampled before it ran clear of the Temple warriors into the main force of High Elf axemen. The beast rampaged, feeding on the elves, or crushing them underfoot. Its beastmasters ran after it, whips cracking and orders and curses spat at the foul monster, desperate to bring it back under control.

Nathra, surrounded by warriors and mercenaries of the Druchii host, had brought down yet another knight. It seemed his wards and ithilmar were poor protection from her guile, beauty, or agility. She sent him to the realm of Morai-Heg to join his battle brother. Stretching like a cat, she was alive with murderous energy. The knight to her right wanted to change that... With a roar, he brought his longsword down over his head, the sharp edge aimed at her right shoulder. Seeing what his comrade was doing, a knight to his right swung his longsword across from right to left, aiming to cut across her torso. She was too fast to fight alone, their heavy armour hindering their agility. If they fought together, the sons of Ulthuan would prevail.

Cade's sergeant had given the order to change targets now that the rearguard of the knights had raised shields. Pointless to waste bolts at their thick defences, and so crossbows were raised skywards. With a command, the whole unit released at once, bolts whistling through the air in a deadly black rain. The Mage, busy with his magical battle only realised at the last minute that he was under attack; his eagle issuing a warning call. He raised his hand, and a shimmering ball surrounded him for a few seconds. It was long enough for the bolts to splinter harmlessly on the magical sphere before raining down on the knights below. Cade's sergeant gave the command to shoot once more once the orb around the Champion had shimmered and faded. The crossbows were wound back and bolts clicked into place, before another volley was fired into the sky. What the Mage hadn't countered for was the blast of purple fire from the sorceresses' serpent that was heading towards him...

Umbra and Heldrana, the Hydra has entered a frenzy again. Time to get out of the way. ((Umbra killed the first White Lion, the second has been wounded by the hand axe)) About 160 White Lions now left.

Nathra has killed another knight, two are now attacking her. Both are armed with longswords and wear similar armour to the last fellow. About 150 Knights left.

Cade and his unit are shooting bolts en-masse at the Mage and his eagle. A pivotal decision. ((Dice didn't bring him down... yet))

Khitai, a White Lion has turned and is attacking you. He is armoured with a leather chest plate over a chainmail tunic which ends at his knees. He wears leather shinguards and bracers, and a steel helm on his head with a nose guard. Worth noting, the hydra that has just charged past.

Kailleth is unconscious due to blood loss. ((Will leave him on hold for now, if he doesn't post by the time this battle is done, I will assume he has lost interest in the group))

70 High Elf Archers left.

Gaelus watched as the dark shadow of their flying bolts arched through the air. The mage was well engaged in a battle of magics with the ethereal serpent. Gaelus saw the two melees nearby, almost at odds in character. On the left the ordered knights battled rank and file against the lines of druchii warriors. On the right, the opposite was forming. Witch elves, riders and the hydras were engaed in a melee with the chracians that could only be described as chaos. Bodies were literally flung about the beast as those on the ground fought for their own survival in a hundred small engagements.

His focus returned to the fleeted bolts. Don't turn, don't turn, Gaelus thought to himself. The bolts inched closer. They would strike true. Gaelus felt a thrill of exhiliration rise in him. At the last moment the eagle screeched loudly and the mage suddenly turned, raising his arm. A blue shimmer surrounded him and the bolts suddenly struck the magic shield, becoming worthless splinters. Losing their impetous, they had little effect on the mage.

Gaelus heard himself curse and quickly noticed his compatriots were doing the same. The mage now faced them. Gaelus swallowed. He didn't like the prospect attracting the mage's attention. A quick flick of the mage's staff saw a searing beam of light roar in a line towards his unit. It hit them with a sound that could be compared to a combination of a loud sizzle and steel being sharpened. A column of his fellows were cut completely where it struck, most of them in half. Those unfortunates barely had time to blink or mutter a sound before both halves fell to the sides.

Gaelus saw that one struck was the standard bearer. It had missed Saulk but only half a meter. Before the banner could fall, Gaelus jumped out of rank and grabbed it out of the air, wretching it from the lifeless arm and shoulder in one motion. Saulk gave him a quick glance as if he was going to reprimand him again but then his features softened a bit and gave him a quick nod. Once more sergeant, and I think we'll have him, gaelus heard himself saying.

Let's hope you're right, he muttered before turning to the unit Once more lads! We'll strike at the same time as the sorceress's serpent!

The unit regained their composure and covered down in the gap in their ranks. As one they once again aimed their handbows skyward.

Gaelus will recover the standard and join Saulk out front. He will then fire with the unit as they try to time their volley's with the serpent's attacks.

OOC: I know i took a bit of liberty with the mage's attack on the unit but I thought it was of minimal effect and made for a good story (I wanted to do something with a bit more meat than "gaelus fires again" haha)

((Nightcall edit: I don't mind at all... it does make good reading, and won't effect what is about to happen next... *cryptic smile* ))

Hearing the sickening crunch of a breaking neck even over the din of battle, Nathra let loose a savage grin and stretched her slender limbs. She had no time to celebrate another easy kill, for two more knights bore down upon her with undue haste almost as if they wished for her to kill them. Well, Nathra would happily grant them their final wish... eventually. They attacked in unison, one attack countering the other. The dexterous shades instincts snapped her into action and she corkscrew-jumped away from the strikes, both slicing the air barely inches from her flawless skin.

She spun wildly through the air and landed gracefully on her feet. Grinning gleefully, glistening eyes gandered at the trailing knights as she mocked them. "Loathsome curs, that best you can do? Pathetic!" Nathra did not hang around to see the effect of her chastisement and was already twirling and whirling along her merry way, skipping amongst the piles of slaughter decorating the foreign soil. Like a whirlwind she moved, taking in the positions of all the archers around her, most were engaged already, Nathra all but invisible to them.

With perfect balance and grace she set herself a frenetic pace. Diddly de de, diddly de de, de de de de, diddly de de, diddly de de, diddly diddly diddly de. Diddly de... Hopping over another still-twitching corpse behind a preoccupied archer, the dancing shade slashed upwards with her blade, lifting up the skirted armour and catching him up the rectum, with a flick of her wrist and a pirouette, Nathra carved off a buttock before flying away over to her next target.

A hop, a skip, a jump and a somersault through the air, Nathra slashed out a vicious sideways slash at another victim, aiming for his neck, she landed and cartwheeled past another Asur. With one hand pivoting her around, her sword slashed out low at the back of his knees, then as she landed next to where he was falling, she quickly plunged her sword through his heart. Even before he had hit the ground, Nathra kicked him off her bloodied blade and propelled herself into a series of ferocious back-flips.

...diddlydiddlyde. Diddlydede, diddlydede, dededede, diddlydede... The music in her head started fast and was gradually reaching an orgasmic crescendo, and as she back-flipped herself away towards another victim, she was pleased to note the knights were doing their utmost to put an end to her carnival trickery. One more spin and she saw the perfect victim, he almost had his back to her. One last flick of her slender legs and Nathra readjusted the spin in mid air, her back of her thighs landed on the Asurs shoulder, her crotch snug against the back of his head and she hooked her feet behind his back.

Her sword came down two-handed with a satisfying crunch as the point penetrated his skull and descended a foot or more into his brain, through his jaw, out under the chin and into his chest. Nathra pulled the sword free and quickly slotted it into it's own little private sleeping place - not that it would get any rest. The shade leant backwards and curved herself towards the ground, bringing the torso of the elf down with her. Mustering all the strength she was able she applied the force and counter force necessary to catapult the corpse towards the two knights that were still pursuing her, and propelled his still beating corpse towards them.

Heldrana was almost gleefully hacking at the Chracians, laughing maniacally, her body splatted in blood, her own and her foes. However, her fatigue and wounds were catching up to her. The red mist was fading, coming back into the cold reality that she was wounded, covered in blood, and now in the path of an enraged war hydra.

The beast masters were desperately trying to get the thing back under control, but her years of experience fighting beside such beasts taught her that when a beast like that gets upset, it's best to stay out of the way. The shade, you fool you owe him.

She looked left and right for the shade, grabbing him by his cloak to draw him away from the Chracians.

"The hydra's lost it. We have to get out of here now!"

Not caring if he heard her warning, she gave him a last tug, knowing that if they stayed, they would both die a particularly messy death. She fled back towards the Druchii pickets, leaving the war hydra to gorge itself on sweet Asur meat.

Heldrana is getting out of there. If she manages to reach the pickets, she'll find herself a surgeon. She needs patchin' up.

Seeing the chracian he had thrown the axe at simply pull it out and keep fighting Umbra prepared to launch hisself after the axe and elf. He was brought up short by a hand grabbing his cloak and almost pulling him off his feet. when he heard the corsair woman's voice from behind him, "The hydra's lost it. We have to get out of here now!" Umbra looked around and saw the giant many-headed lizard stomping and munching it's way through the white lions in their direction and his burgeoning courage evaporated, "you may well be right there."

Umbra bolted away from the chracians, who were all very much more interested in the encroaching hydra and brides of khaine and was almost halfway back to the druchii's lines when a sputtering of crossbow bolts fell to his left. He looked up and saw the mage and the black snake of magic battling in the sky, just as he looked another flight of bolts zoomed towards the trio. Umbra decided that it wouldn't hurt to add another arrow to the flock, he knelt down, unslung his bow and knocked an arrow in it for only the third time in his life, pulling back the string and sighting down the shaft. Umbra released the arrow and waited a couple of seconds to see if any of the missiles hit the airborn mage, then set off running back towards friendly lines.

taking a pot-shot at the mage then bolting for safety. Once there he'll see if there's anything he can help with (preferably inside a tent, what with the outside being so big and open and all)

It surley was chaos and bloody. As the Khainite charged after the fleeing troops, there was a shiny elf that felt courage and charge Khitai. Luckely Khitai was aware and charge back against him, two enemy with full speed ahead agains eacthother.

Strangely enough the hydra had past this one, not that Khitai took notes. Dead body's lay everywhere and he was about to take advantage of that. The shiny elf had sword and shield, and it seemed that it wasn't his, cause the weapons didn't match his finer armour. He lifted his sword getting ready to lash out on Khitai, holding his shield low.

Khitai saw his uppertunity to surprise him. With full speed ahead he stepped on a dead and bloody body laying between them to get a bit over ground, and then jumped forward to step on his shield. The shiny elf lashed out and caught nothing but air, while Khitai was hanging in the air above him and stabbing one of his scimitars straight down at his weapon shoulder, makeing it stick there. With the momentum forward in the air, he dived down and did an acrobatic tumbling on the ground that brought him back up on his feet.

Khitai turned around and the shiny elf was on his knees with his back against him. He raised himself on his feet and turned towards Khitai, the scimitar still in his shoulder and the weapon arm totally useless. Khitai walked slowly towards his bloody enemy that was ready to defend himself with only a shield in hand. With a armlenght between them, Khitai brought his weapon from high left, down low right hitting only the shield that was pushed out for a defense move. It was a setup. Khitai brought his scimitar in a straight line from low right to low left. The shiny couldn't make the parry downwords, so the scimitars sliced both his legs making him fall to his knees again.

He was going to enjoy his last moves to the fullest as the shiny elf screamed in pain and made an a poorly effort to hide behind the shield he struggled to hold. Khitai took two steps forward and kicked the shield from his hand making his enemy dangling defenseless on his knees. He walked around him and pulled his scimitar out from his enemys shoulder. A higher cry from pain came. The shiny elf was all red from blood, a sight Khitai enjoyed. Again he walked around him, standing in front of him. Hi lifted both his weapons up high in a cross, lashing down and out, sliceing an ex on his chest and blood gutted out. Khitai brought his weapons back in, cutting his head straight off.

Khitai raised his scimitars in the air and screamed of joy and the delight of draining blood.

More blood was to be spilled, he took full sprint ahead following the others in the hunt for blood.

The Mage snorted in satisfaction as his spell ripped through the ranks of Druchii that were shooting at him. From behind, a single arrow found its way to his eagle, a flurry of feathers falling loose as the projectile clipped its right wing. The bird shrieked and the Mage turned his head to see what had caused his steed's alarm. This seemed to be a great stroke of luck as he noted the purple fire tearing through the sky towards him from the serpent's maw. With a cry, he raised his staff and another orb of magic appeared around him and the bird. With the sound of a thunderclap, the purple fire exploded around the Champion, but harmed him not. It was at this critical moment, Cade's unit had focussed their firepower once again. Distracted by the magical attack, the Mage was unprepared for the hundreds of bolts that swarmed towards him. His magical shield faded as he prepared a counter against the serpent.

A mournful call emanated from the great eagle's beak as countless bolts pierced its underside. Through wings, legs, throat, and torso, they struck. Too many to dodge. Too many to avoid. Too many to survive. The noble beast was overcome by the deadly volley. As life left it, the bird plummeted to the ground like a stone, the Mage slipping from its shoulders. As he fell, he tried to conjure a protective barrier around himself, and the Elves fighting hundreds of feet below saw him as a drop of light falling through the gloom of Nagarythe. The bird crashed to the ground amid the High Elf knights, the Mage a few seconds after. His fall was cushioned by the body of his loyal mount, where he lay still for a moment, stricken with grief and recovering from his plunge.

The knights immediately rallied around him, a warhorn blasting a brilliant note to order the rest of the host to them. Using their brute strength, they shoved any Druchii out of their numbers, and set their shieldbearers to stand on the edge of the circle they had now formed around their leader.

As Nathra flung a corpse at the two knights that had engaged an attack against her, she was shoved back by three shield wielding knights. Roughly and quickly shoved, she found her progress into their unit was hampered as she stood on the outside of the formation once again. A wall of ithilmar stood between her and the centre of the unit, and her full lips curled into an angry snarl as her fun was spoiled.

Umbra and Heldrana had run together through the unit of Chracians towards the main battle. As the hydra lumbered forwards, they dodged its heads as they snapped down, snatching Elves that were only a few feet from where they had been standing moments ago. The beast walked over them, and they wove past its legs and thrashing tail, hearing its belly gurgle as it inhaled to belch out yet another deadly blast. As it exhaled, they heard the belch of flame, closely followed by screams. It had been a close call. Past cursing beastmasters, then the rear lines of Chracians, through a rank of Witch Elves, and a fellow with white hair swinging his blades wildly. Until clear, they found a gap between the two forces. Umbra found a cluster of boulders, upon which was perched a dying tree. Using it for cover, he beckoned Heldrana close. Whatever happened, he wanted to get out of this alive.

General Thaekan laughed at his good fortune. Watching from the rear or his host, he had been filled with delight to see the ailing mage fall. Had he plummeted to his death? That had yet to be seen. 'The noose has been set around that fools neck.' he purred to his musician. 'Time to tighten the knot. Rally the Temple warriors, we cannot allow those flea ridden Chracians to aid their kin.' He cracked his knuckles idly as a shrill command was blasted from the musician's horn.

Hearing the rasping note, the Hag paused. A Chracian was held by his hair in her left hand, and as she intepreted the signal, she swung her right hand at her prey, severing his head neatly. With a whoop, she called out, 'Sisters, fall back! Khaine bids us direct our hand to a worthy cause.' To kill wantonly was one thing. Yet to slay a warrior with fire in his heart, desperation, hope... the blood was all the sweeter. The Witches ran to form a line between the knights and the Chracians, dancing around any that got in their way. Reinforcements were not to reach the knights.

Seeing the holy warriors move, the General nodded with satisfaction. He pointed to the sorceresses, one of them entering his mind to find out what was required. 'What is your bidding, my lord?' The Druchii lord was not entirely comfortable with this form of communication, but in matters of urgency, it was most effective. It however meant that they could perhaps read his mind. He had learned to be careful, but still, he had to take measures to ensure their loyalty. This level of intimacy was dangerous. 'Kill the Chracians.' he replied, his lips not moving.

The sorceresses banished the ethereal snake, then began a chant anew. With waves of their arms and iron staffs, they summoned a dark cloud over the valiant White Lions. A shrill wind swept in a focussed blast through the warriors. The Elves paused their efforts, a terrible sound causing some to drop their weapons in agony, and clutch their ears. Others roared in fury and pushed through the cursed storm, dodging forks of lightning that fell from the blackness above them. The Druchii spellcasters would toy with them for a while longer before their coup de grace.

The Mage is down! He is surrounded by the knights though. Eagle is dead.

Umbra and Heldrana have run through towards the main fight. They are positioned between the Chracians and the Knights and are in cover behind some boulders.

Cade's unit is still at the rear, spreading out to circle the knights to find a weakness in their defences. ((Don't mind the loss of troops at this point))

Khitai, the Witch Elves are holding off the White Lions from aiding the Knights. Do you join them?

Nathra has been pushed back as the knights have formed a full shield wall around the Mage.

The White Lions are trying to get to the Knights to aid them.

120 White Lions and 130 Knights left. 40 Archers left.

The nimble shade danced and whirled effortlessly amongst the archers, killing each of them with swift, accurate swipes of her bloodied blade. These were chaff, riff-raff, easy prey and Nathra took little delight in killing them for they provided her with no challenge. Her total indifference to the lives of these high elves had provoked the knights, which was her intention, and as she flung the gore-soaked corpse at the two knights chasing her down, another three appeared as if from no where and quickly batted her away.

The shade instinctively kicked out, her soft feet connecting with a shield as it pushed her away. She slipped over a corpse and slid through the blood soaked ground for a few feet before bringing up her legs and flipping herself over, cat-like she landed on all fours and snapped her neck up, snarling at the silver knights as they formed into a defensive circle several metres ahead of her.

This, Nathra conceded, was going to be a tad more challenging. She grinned, looking around to ascertain the whereabouts of any 'allies' and other high elves lurking about.

Furtively scanning the field to decide her next action.

Gaelus's entire unit erupted into a cry of victory as he saw their wall of bolts hit home, pinnioning the majestic eagle. He heaved their standard in the air to accent their exhiliration. Their cry nearly drowned out the dying shriek of the bird. He watched as the eagle's flight halted, faltered and then began to plummet. He could only imagine what was going through its rider's mind has he fell to meet the earth.

He laughed as it fell amongst the armored knights, smashing a few with its landing. A scowl then crossed his face as he saw the mage rise, albeit dazed, from the broken beast. The knights quickly formed a protective circle around their leader. You have got to be kidding me... jammy bastard..., Gaelus found himself thinking.

Saulk quickly moved the unit around the rear of the knights, looking for an opening through which they could send bolts home. None appeared. The knights discipline was unfaltering. To the right, the chracians were slammed in between a rock and a hard place. The hydra and riders herding them into the line of witch elf blades, cutting off any support to the knights.

Seeing the battle past it's zenith, Saulk figured there was really only one thing left to do to end it. The mage dies, and it's over and then we can continue our invasion. Handbows, wedge formation!, he called. Gaelus gave him a brief look of disbelief you cannot be serious!. Saulk saw the look at quickly stated to him in a calm voice, We might not be cavalry but so long as we fire bolts into the charge, their shields will stay up. We just need to penetrate to barrel through the first few ranks to reach the mage, eliminate him and then withdraw tactically.

Gaelus thought this strategy was either extremely bold or incredibly foolish but it was not without logic or merit. Fortune favors the bold, so they say, he thought to himself. Decided, he raised the unit's banner and moved into position at the fore of the wedge.

Forward! Charge! cried Saulk. With that they were on the move, quickly picking up speed as they closed the distance. Gaelus felt and heard the zips of bolts fired from behind him into the knights, keeping their shields up in front of them. As the distance closed to the last 5 meters, Gaelus was overcome by instinct, his rational mind a distant memory. He gripped the standard two handed and ran full pelt at the kneeling knight in front of him's shield. With a great stride, he ran up the shield, over top of the second ranked knights covering shield. Using this as a platform, he leap over top, planting the standard amongst the further ranks and polevaulted into the center of their formation where the eagle had fallen and the mage had begun to raise his senses.

Landing, he didn't bother to look back to see if his fellows would make it through. He quickly drew his handbow, the standard now transfered to his left hand and closing the distance to the mage, fired his weapon for all he was worth. Pouring his hatred and venom into each and every shot he made. His mind returned to a place back when he was still receiving the tutilage of the nobility. He remembered the words of his tutors, All elves are greatly attuned to the magics of the world, even the most mundane elf. Remember, when facing it, keep your mind strong and your hatred burning for they are the only protection one unlearned in the magical arts has. His anger burned brighter as he fired. So overcome he was, that he didn't even notice he was screaming bloody murder as he emptied his clip at the mage.

Gaelus will charge with his unit's wedged charge. He will then polevault into the center of the knights where the mage is located using the unit's standard. Once landing, he will empty his clip into the mage.

Umbra sprinted for his life, narrowly avoiding the snapping heads of the hydra and barely dashing ahead of a ball of green-tinged flames coming from the massed mouths of the giant beast. Umbra almost stopped in his tracks as he saw the witch elves lining up in front of him, the ferocious reputation of the khainites was known even to someone as low-born as hisself and it wouldn't be a surprise if they turned on a druchii in their frenzy, it was only the tramping sound of the hydra behind him that kept his feet moving through the ranks of witch elves and brushing past an odd white-haired elf.

As soon as he was out the other side Umbra hunted out a suitable place to find cover for a while, and one particular sheltered place immediately jumped out. Umbra carried on running untill he was safely hidden amongst the small cluster of boulders, with a lone willow tree helping hide him Umbra took stock of the battle so far. The mage and his bird had fallen into the ranks of the asur warriors, but from the way they formed up they at least thought there was some life in the cowardly wizard yet; beyond and around the silvered ranks of the high elf knights the druchii forces milled around, trying to find a flaw in the asur's shield wall; behind him Umbra saw the brides of khaine form a line between the knights and the reeling chracians to stop the high elves regrouping.

Umbra held no delusions as to his uselessness in the battle, unarmoured and armed only with his fists he had nothing to add to a pitched battle besides another body to absorb the enemies killing blows and he didn't really fancy that duty. Instead he settled down out of the way in his little hide, planted a few arrows in the dirt so they were within easy reach, and began firing shots into the elven shield wall, hoping to find a gap in the line to exploit.

Umbra will hide in the hide and try to shoot any elf not hidden well enough behind a shield or ithilmar armour.

Cade's sergeant had decided that now was the time to earn a promotion. To the disbelief of his regiment, he ordered them to form a wedge and charge into the knights. Some unsheathed their swords, others reloaded, and on his command they ran headlong, or were carried by, the momentum of the unit as it slammed into the shield wall. The Mage was vulnerable, it was do or die, and Saulk sought to capitalise on this opportunity.

In a daring act of bravery, Cade faced the shield wall and vaulted himself over it using the standard. It was an offence punishable by death to let go of the banner, but his actions would likely see him killed anyway. His sergeant spat a string of expletives as he saw the standard plucked up by an Asur, and from his watch position, the General himself stared angrily. There would be no death by High Elf hand for this idiot, he wanted to make an example of him instead.

Picking up on his thoughts, one of the sorceresses smiled darkly and made the sign of a protective sigil in the air with the index finger of her right hand. Whether Cade sensed it or not, for the moment his armour was impenetrable by mortal weapons.

From Umbra's hiding place, he had a good position to view the battle. He hadn't waited to see if the corsair was behind him; for all he knew, Heldrana had been pulped beneath the hydra's heavy claws. A handful of arrows were placed in the ground, and he drew back his bow to shoot a few into the ranks of the knights. In the sudden confusion caused by Cade's attack, some had turned and lowered their guard. Two of his arrows hit their mark, one wounding a knight in the gap between his lower and upper arm, another taking a shot to the face and falling down dead.

Nathra had been frustrated by her sudden eviction from the fray. But now an opening had shown itself. She had seen an arrow come out of nowhere, followed by another, and as the knight fell she took the opportunity to leap back into the fight. Their attention elsewhere, the Asur would not see a shade slip into their midst.

The Mage slowly propped himself up. On a bed of feathers, his heart ached with grief as he realised that his eagle had been slain. With a groan he tried to stand, and realised that both of his legs were broken. He was encircled by the knights, and for that he was grateful. About to rest, he heard a commotion, and saw a hateful figure leap into the circle. Raising his right arm, he uttered a swift spell, and his protective field surrounded him once more as his enemy fired a clip of bolts towards him. The first made it through before his spell took effect, and pierced him at the top of his right arm. Hearing his cry, the closer knights turned to hack down the Druchii that had penetrated their disciplined defences. A dozen swords were thrust forwards or brought down. He would surely die.

Umbra is in cover, Heldrana is not to be seen yet at the boulders. Did she make it? Umbra's arrows have killed 1 Knight, and wounded another.

Cade's ambitious leap has proven successful. The Mage has been wounded and is disabled. There are about 12 Knights about to attack Cade though. ((For now it seems like he's going to get killed, I'll post something more obvious about his magic protection in the next post))

Khitai, I am leaving the status as per my previous Mod post.

Nathra is still on the outside, but an opening is showing itself thanks to Umbra's shot.

The White Lions are still tied up.

90 White Lions and 120 Knights left. 15 Archers left.

With all the fun Khitai had killing the white elf, he had lost his momentum and he had almost lost the witch elf grope. Landing from his trans, he was set to catch the edge the females got on him.

The witches was between the knights and the lions holding them apart, and Khitai wanted to be there. He ran towards them, maneuvering over the dead body's in his way.

Catching up with the witches, ready to help and cut down some white elfs

Gaelus fired in his fury. He saw his first shot hit home into the mage's shoulder thwacking him back into his dead mount. At the same instant the mage gasped a word of power and the following bolts were deflected harmlessly away from the mage's broken form. Gaelus' anger boiled in him to be cheated so. He had taken a great, and maybe even careless risk in attempting to finish the mage off personally. His blood boiled at the prospect of being conned his quarry. He replaced his handbow and withdrew his two short swords. Lets see how your shield fares agains Druchii and..., Gaelus chuckled at realization, glancing at the blue stoned pommel of his recently acquired weapon Asurii steal.

The mage's cry after being hit in the shoulder was echoed amongst the knights nearby after one turned to see their leader's peril. As one, nearly a dozen blades turned to face and surround Gaelus. Their eyes burning with hatred. Gaelus faltered a step and his anger began to ebb. Khaine damn you Gaelus! You've done yourself in now.... He quickly realized that he was doomed. His unit was charging into the knights towards his direction but their penetration was slowing and even if they did make it through, it would probably be far to late for him. They probably wouldnt be too happy to see him either as Gaelus noticed his unit's standard being held by one of the hated knights now.

Gaelus, in an instant, saw his ambitions wither away. His rightful place as leader of his household vanish. The stupid, inept and weak would remain as their leaders and would bury his lineage deeper and deeper into destitude. What's worse, his great plans of the ascention of his house would disappear with his death. The fortunes he would amass, the power he would attain, the legions he would command. This realization that this would shortly come to pass cut Gaelus to the core. He felt it all ripped from him. Ripped from his very being. His anger returned. Burning brighter than ever. Bubbling over from his emotions to give him the very visage of hatred. THE GODS BE DAMNED! CURSE THEM FOR THEIR FORTUNES!. Anyone with any inclination in the mystical arts could probably feel the palpable, near psychopathic rage eminating from Gaelus at this point.

His burning gaze, face twisted in anger and hatred, once again settled on the mage's broken form behing his protectors. And thrice damn him for not dying when I deem it so!. Gaelus resolved himself that if he was to be cursed from ever realizing his dreams and ambitions, so too would haughty, pompous, flitty elven prince. At the very least, he would find a glimmer of happiness and satisfaction in the death of the elf. Gaelus poured out his hatred and rage in a blood thirsty cry towards the mage and charged towards the nearest knights blocking a path to the Asurii leader. You will die before I perish. I will not suffer you to breath so long as I do too. Your rotting carcass will be meal for devourers of the land, forgotten and left behind once your army is destroyed!. His blades twirled in the air, his rage controlling his every action. He struck out with furious strength at those blocking his way. Whether he hit home or merely knocked them off balance he did not care. Nor did he care to worry about any countering swings. As far as he was concerned, he was dead already. Any wounds would not stop him from his goal. His path continued into the mage, using the force of his charge, he stabbed his swords towards the mage's broken, wounded body. His maddened eyes locked with the mage's speaking to him one message You are going to die now

Gaelus will, in an act of probable suicide (though he is probably in a similar pickle either way), attempt a last ditch heroic charge through the knights, attempting to quickly dispatch those closest to the mage in the most direct route to him. He will then plunge both of his weapons in to the mage's body continuously until he is certain he breaths no more.

Just as he had expected Umbra's first few arrows plinked off the elven knights'armour, however something happened on the far side of the unit which the asur found particularly interesting and the last two arrows he launched stabbed into the backs of those too curious to hold the line. Umbra though he saw a figure clothed in harpy feathers slip though the gap that formed in the shield wall, but the high elves reformed before he could get a clear look.

With the knights otherwise occupied with their introversion and the chracians struggling and failing to fight past khaine's brides there was very little pressing trying to directly kill Umbra, he spoke over his shoulder to the lady corsair, "I can see if I can make a hole in the shield wall if you fancy getting stuc-- wait, where'd you go?" Umbra looked around his little shelter and shrugged, "I guess she didn't fancy waiting around." With that Umbra decided he should take another foray into combat.

Jumping up from his shelter Umbra sprinted across the stretch of ground to where the knights had formed up around the fallen mage, firing arrows at the closest high elf. Once he reached the line of shields Umbra leapt over the kneeling knight and planted his foot in their face, using it as a springboard to launch hisself up to the level of the second knight and drop kick them in the head. Umbra landed somewhat gracefully on the inside of the shield wall, between the asur holding the line outwards and those looking in at whatever was happening further in, then grabbed the closest elf from behind by their chin and the back of their head and cracked their neck.

Umbra will join everyone inside the shield wall and breaking a neck while he's at it.

Nathra had seemed to become all but invisible to the circle of Asur. She bided her time for the most opportune moment to strike, gauging their defence with ever watchful emerald eyes. The nearest knights were momentarily distracted and Nathra seized the chance to cause chaos in their midst. As she burst into action, several things happened simultaneously. Several arrows poured into the knights from Nathra's left, felling one as it punctured him through the face and another lodged itself in a knights arm. A foolhardy Druchii warrior rose up from the ranks of a charging unit and, though he miraculously made it to the mage, stumbled at the last hurdle as an entire clip of his handbow simply bounced off some kind of magical shield the fallen mage had erected. Then, as the mage cried out, a swath of Asur knights turned to him. That mage has to die. Now is the time to strike...

Nathra witnessed all of this even as she spun her harpy cloak about herself and swiftly moved up the shadows provided by the heaps of corpses. With sure-footed strides the shade leapt through the gap that presented itself and landed smoothly inside the knights defensive perimeter. With the mage facing the warrior at the opposite side of the circle, and the knights oblivious to her presence, it was easy for her to quickly grasp the mage's neck and twist it around savagely. She stayed just long enough to ensure the mage was sufficiently dead before eyeing up the back's of several tasty targets.

Why do I suffer these fools? She thought as she unsheathed her sword, ready to pounce and strike at the knights surrounding the warrior who seemed hell bent on getting himself killed...

While not quite crushed to a pulp beneath the hydra's claws, Heldrana knew she was still in trouble. She ducked past the enraged beast's snapping jaws, weaving through the Chracians, swinging her axe at any foolish enough to block her path. She kept her eyes on the shade, tracking him, following as close as she could.

She arrived at the boulders just as he was dispatching a knight with his bow. Panting, she had just enough to catch her breath as the shade charged to engage the foot knights in close combat.

"Are you serious? Damned fool is going to get me killed."

Taking a moment to tie a strip of cloth around her arm, she downed the flask of wine to dull the pain and hefted her axe.

"Well, I certainly can't let him get stuck in and have all the fun."

With a ululating battle cry, she charged at the foot knights, swinging her axe down in a mighty arc, then, reversing her grip, she swung up, cleaving her foes in twain. Regardless of what armour these Asur wore, she knew she could rend it as easily as any flesh with the strokes of an axe.

Yup, Hel's getting stuck in. Probably a bad idea, but the day has been full of bad ideas.

((To be enjoyed with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwRCtlXEME8 ))

Khitai's blades flashed in the gloom, his efforts aiding the Witch Elves. Now and again the Chracians would barge forwards in an effort to join the Knights, yet each time they were held back and hacked down by whirring blades. From their northern flank, the hydra belched its poison, leaving only the south west clear. That would be a route to retreat, something the noble warriors would not fathom. The cavalry had reaped a foul tally with their bolts and fast attacks, and now they were sweeping around the pelted Asur's north behind the hydra, peppering bolts as they passed. Khitai glanced to his side as the thunder of hooves came close. A slender hand gripping a curved kris knife was thrust forwards, and a spray of blood mingled with the gore already covering the Khainite. 'More glory to me to spill more blood, than to see you join our Lord...' hissed a Witch Elf, her ebony eyes wild with bloodlust. The battlefield smelled like a charnel house, sweet perfume to the bringers of death.

Cade's predicament was dire. The standard snatched by the enemy, his initial attack failed; and now a dozen Asur elites were bearing down on him with furious urgency to defend their champion. A longsword crashed down to his right. Ducking, he barely missed a sweeping blow that would have cut the top of his head off. He raised his right sword to parry a blow from a warrior bringing his sword downwards in an arc. The metals met with a ringing sound, then slid apart as he rushed forwards, fuelled by hate. Punching his left sword forwards, he mortally wounded a warrior as it found a gap beneath his breastplate and put a hole in his belly. A frenzy was upon him, and he fought as only a doomed elf could.

His sergeant and the rest of his unit pushed through from behind. Their wedge was slowly working through the ranks of High Elves who's tight defences had left little room for manoeuvre when it came to swinging a sword. Crossbows had been put to good use, finding gaps in armour or eye sockets to pierce, bringing down enough of the hated cowards to allow the regiment to push their advance. The sergeant was making for the standard, which would be topped by the head of the bastard that had snatched it up if he succeeded in getting through.

To the south of the circle, Nathra had made the most of the gap created by Umbra's shot. The Dark Elf cavalry had reached the western side of the Knights and had begun firing into them, causing even more distraction. The shade had seen Cade's failed attempt and she would be damned if the Mage managed to save himself after they were this close to sending him to the afterlife. Before her, Cade raced forwards, his face wild with fury. The wounded Mage lifted his good hand to release a spell just as Nathra landed behind him. A look of surprise formed on his face as he felt her smooth hands touch him; one on his cheek, the other gripping beneath his opposite ear. 'Ugh uhhh...' Nathra tutted, with a pout of false sympathy.

As her muscles tensed for the coup de grace, Cade broke free of his pursuers with a yell, and plunged his two swords through the fine Sapherian silk robe, then through the Mage's flesh. The blades crunched through ribs and bit through his lungs, the points emerging out of the ancient elf's back. The champion's eyes widened, and a gargled gasp left his lips as he realised his fatal error. Distracted by Nathra, he had failed to unleash his magical attack, giving Cade the seconds he needed to finish his work. As the Druchii raised his swords and brought them down again, Nathra twisted the elf's head, savouring the click of his neck breaking. Letting go, she noted the elf's eyes empty as his body went limp, then she stood with an expression of curiosity on her face as she watched Cade stab down again and again; the Mage's torso now little more than a bloody hulk of meat. 'Don't you think that's enough?' she teased.

A cry of horror went out through the nearest High Elves as they saw their leader meet his bloody end. Word spread quickly through the ranks, and each warrior had to fight his grief in order to continue to fight. It was over. They had failed. The least they could do was slay as many of their damned forsaken kin as possible before the day was over.

Umbra and Heldrana had managed to join the fight, and were now hacking their way through, or breaking necks of the Asur. The warriors had forgotten all about their shield wall as each turned to find the nearest Druchii they could. Heldrana smirked as her stolen axe took the head off a finely clad knight, his armour trimmed with gold. Expensive stuff. If she got out of this alive, she might have to pocket some of it. Umbra nimbly leaped over a falling warrior, placing a foot in the chest of an elf in combat with another Druchii mercenary. The blow caused him to lose his balance, giving the Dark Elf an opening to plunge his spear through the Asurs neck. Umbra threw his arms around the shoulders of another elf nearby, before sinking his thumbs into his eye sockets and blinding him. The knight went down with a horrified scream as the shade broke his neck.

The battle was nothing short of chaos. With no leader to command them, the knights and Chracians fought desperately. Assailed from all sides, the Elites gave in to undisciplined brawling, a few still determined to avenge the death of their lord.

From afar, General Thaekan beckoned for a goblet of wine. He allowed himself a smile before he savoured the bouquet and took a gulp. The sorceresses were throwing bolts of lightning down at the Chracians, and soon would turn their efforts to the knights. 'Once this is over, I want the Mage. I have something... special... in mind.' He laughed cruelly, and downed the cup.

Khitai is helping clear up the last remaining Chracians, helping to keep them from reaching the Knights.

Umbra has killed one knight. ((Hope the fighting style's okay!))

Heldrana has killed another knight.

Cade has slain the Mage, with help from Nathra. ((Dice rolls give him first attack, both of your attacks were successful. Woohoo!)) Here's the tricky bit. Hold off those ithilmar clad bastards, or try to get out of there.

The Druchii cavalry is sweeping at the Knights from the right, shooting into their west flank.

Hydra and Witch Elves are causing carnage with the White Lions.

70 White Lions and 100 Knights left. Archers are all slain.
