Jacks hissed in frustration, he could not break away, and in his urgency to break off, he was now steadily losing ground too!

Carathyle and Cananatra's appearance was much needed, although Jacks snarled in frustration still, there was no time to fool around, they must break away, Kykysh needed to be broken out of whatever trance she was in.

"Get Kykysh out of there! If she fails, we're all doomed anyway!" Jacks screamed at master Maverick. Hoping the excuse would work to his favour in someone securing Kykysh from her peril.

Jacks was fighting a losing battle, but he's not beaten, as long as he's allowed to focus on his enemies, he won't lose. Refocusing on his enemies now that he knows Kykysh is slightly safer, Jacks took a few steps back and stood his ground, it was time for him to show his training.

Tell Carathyle to go to Kykysh (not knowing he was trying to taunt the Asur) then at the slightest opportunity to counter attack, take advantage of his speed to break their advantage and wound them further.

When she was a little girl, Syjahel had been through a keen phase of wanting to be a Witch Elf when she grew up. However, childish ambitions are seldom realised, and she graduated to wanting to be a Corsair Princess soon after. So although the hastily gathering Asur were not treated to the deadly elegance of a Bride of Khaine to honour with the spilling of their crimson, neither did she have the requisite insane bloodlust to just charge at the middle of the small crowd, screaming and naked except for some well-placed skull jewellery. Fortunately for both the shy Children of Asuryan and the war-maiden herself, she had full armour and the wits and training of a warrior. She lifted her shield and sprinted forward, using grace and speed rather than strength to chip away at one side of their defences. Aiming to take out the one furthest to the right rather than be outflanked, she did not spare the defenders a single thought of sympathy.

Indeed, as the cold waves washed on towards her, she could hear the desperate flight of refugees behind her as she held her ground, waiting and praying that they would be fast enough to make the hill rising behind her. There was a piercing scream, and the crackle of flames as the last of the improvised defences went up. Even in this, the dying hours of their once-proud kingdom, the lackeys of the false Phoenix King would not leave them be, instead circling like vultures around a corpse. With a scream of defiance she brought her sword around in an overhand arc, seeking to detach the enemy from his head.

"For Nagarythe!"

Try to take out the rightmost Asur and then his buddy, not wanting to get outflanked. With three of them I'm thinking she can't get away so she will have to go through them. Aiming to get to Kykysh as soon as she can. Also, fighting Asur in Ulthuan is not helping with her little historical perspective issue, but it'll pass. Hopefully.

Jacks was in trouble; more than that he was hogging all the glory and for Carathyle that would never do. Readying himself for battle once again Carathyle strode purposefully towards the melee. Raising his voice over the clamour and the unnatural screech he threw down his (metaphorical) gauntlet. If nothing else this alerted the trio to an oncoming enemy, one who announced himself as being Hoeth trained. Even this oddity did not distract the Sword Master, the famously disciplined warrior sect was not easily turned from the foe in front of him. He had presence of mind enough to know a sword through the back was just as deadly as one in the belly however and a sing song bark set one of the well dressed swordsmen towards Carathyle.

This still left Jacks outnumbered two to one but any relief was more than welcome for all that the shade called for Carathyle to aid Kykysh instead of him. Ducking under a high slice Jacks fainted high and struck low driving his dagger into the second noble's thigh and gaining a little ground. Stepping round to one side Jacks put the wounded elf between himself and the Sword Master. Knowing he had but a moment to capitalize Jacks struck hard and fast burying both blades in his chest, odds evened once more. Which is not to say the elves of Ulthuan did not have a trick or two still to play. Without warning the dying elf lurched forwards with enough force to knock Jacks off his feet. Hitting the ground hand Jacks felt his blades slip from his hands still buried in his late opponent's chest cavity.

Syjahel meanwhile had smaller fish to fry but there were quite a few of them. Having no wish to be surrounded she set her sights on the Asur to her right. Raising her shield to block a high lance from the elf on the far left she twisted aside to let an axe stroke grind (mostly) harmlessly off her armour. Her target struck low, his blade aimed for her belly, sweeping her blade round Syjahel knocked it into the path of the woodsman. Sprinting inside his guard Syjahel drove her blade into his neck and sawed sideways tearing out the jugular and treating herself to an arterial spray. To their credit the Asur showed no sign of giving up and Syjahel was forced onto the defensive as a barrage of attacks sought her life. Shield and sword took the worst of it and in a time honoured classic Syjahel broke their momentum by smashing her shield hard into the woodsman's face. Stunned but not dead his life was saved by the spearman behind him; a heavy thrust thudded into her pauldron forcing her back for the moment needed for the elf to regain his footing. It would take more than a moment to heel a broken nose however.

Carathyle's foe was more skilled and just as tenacious, on the other hand there was only the one of them. Both elves fought aggressively, blades silver in the dying mist clashed time and again. No matter how skilled one must surely fall at such a pace. The druchii had several advantages; a martial culture, undying hatred and, right now at least, armour. A skin of steel meant that though both elves risked all to bring the combat to a swift conclusion Carathyle could do so rather more safely. In less than a minute the Asur lay dead, skull split in two.

A glance over to Cannanatra and Kyksh revealed that the hulking warrior had downed his last opponent too and now stood over Kykysh, sword held in both hands with the point resting on the earth. Looking back to Jacks he saw the shade half pinned with a well dressed corpse draped across his legs and the Sword master drawing near. Kykysh was still screaming, it may have been a trick of the half light and the flames in the distance but the air around the stone seemed to have taken on a redish, purpleish tint. Was this part of the witch's plan? Khaine only knew.

[Syjahel has killed one of the spear elves and has wounded the axe elf. Jacks has killed one of the nobles but has had the corpse kicked into him which has knocked him over and disarmed him. Carathyle has killed another party goer as has Cananatra, they both stand unengaged.

Syjahel made good use of her training and essentially vicious nature. She took down one opponent, and made a start on another. But these Elves were just a distraction. They needed to be killed only so far as they were in the way, between her and the Sorceress. With a snarl, she feinted and swung at the nearest Asur. They were wasting her time.

It was not Syjahel's favourite idea to find herself on the orders of the Witch King to do what they were doing. But having accepted the mission, she was intent on pursuing it with her usual tenacity. Driving her sword into her opponent at the first opportunity, she looked for a way to break from the group and head over to her sorcerous charge. She was a fully armoured Druchii noble, they were unarmed Asur civilians. It ought to be possible, citizen levy or no. Surely her superiority at arms should count for something to the morale of these wretched peasants?

Of course, she reflected sourly as she blocked a strike and aimed to deflect another onto one of her attackers instead of herself, they were defending their home. In such a circumstance, she knew what she would do.

Try to get in among her attackers and use her spiky, blade-wielding self to good effect to scatter the enemy then get away towards Kykysh and the boys. Syjahel doesn't have the mass of Cananatra, but she figures that she is being too damn' delicate and ought to be smashing and stabbing and playing hell with unarmoured opponents. Worth a try, anyhow!

Mid battle posts are short posts. Can't presume on the success to fail ratio.

Carathyle will step up and slay everyone getting in his way as he walks toward the swordmaster. When and if he arrives, he'll steal Jacks' kill with the excuse of "He was delaying us more than was necessary." Carathyle will not go and assist Kykysh(he hates her, remember?)

OOC: Quick post thanks to a very very well deserved headache and mid-week. Yes, school's a blast with all these tests in one weeks time. Sorry, I am not dead but very very busy.

Stopped momentarily the sound blow she had just taken Syjahel reflected on the nature of her foe; the two most obvious words that came to mind were 'brave' and 'vulnerable'. That being so a change of tack was in order. Launching herself forwards the young noble swept aside the spear tip with her shield and crashed hard into the still concussed woodsman. Lithe and slim she may have been but Syjahel packed a mean punch and the weight of her armour counted for much as she elbowed the elf hard in the face. Nose already broken this added injury to, well, injury and the elf dropped his axe clutching at his face. Paying him no more mind the Druchii ploughed on under the protection of her shield, her guard was not easily broken and this half trained civilian, now alone, would be no match for her.

Would that Jacks could say the same, his condition was now desperate. Pinned, disarmed, a damn sight closer to helpless than any Shade ought to be he was at the mercy of the Sword Master. You may say what you will of the Asur; that they are traitors, unworthy usurpers, poets, painters, rainbow loving tree hugging loons but when it comes to the Druchii you cannot say that they are merciful. Raising his sword in both hands the Asur angled the blade down, an execution. Jacks felt rather than heard his heart pump faster, as though knowing it had mere moments left. He felt rather than heard the blood rushing through his veins and the breath in his lungs as he tried desperately to throw off the elf atop him. What he heard was Carathyle.

Poetic invective and martial challenges roared through the night contending with Kykysh's impossible scream. The noble's cry did not move the Sword Master but his blade did. Whistling through the night air a harbinger of certain death the warrior's stroke flashed with purpose to the head of Hoeth. It met steel. Moving faster than thought the Asur turned and blocked. For a long moment the two warriors locked there, blade on blade, gazing into one another's eyes and finding nothing but icy hate. With a flourish the Sword Master broke away even as Carathyle kicked hard into his chest. Steel capped boots staggered him for but a moment but it gave the Druchii space. Space for Jacks to rise.

As she at last made the village green Syjahel was greeted with the sight of many corpses and one live Asur facing off against two of her bold companions, the third standing stalwart over their charge. The barest hint of a smile blessed her face. Then the world broke. Before her eyes and far too distant for action Cananatra raised his sword into the air and with a single fell stroke cut off Kykysh's head. The silence as her scream cut off was deafening. A bright spurt of blood blossomed over the stone and perhaps it was this which caused the shattering. Perhaps she had been channelling too much of the Empryean's base energy for sudden release to go un marked. Perhaps her spell had finally worked and this was always meant to be. The whys they could not know but the what's, that was a different story.

It started with a crack from tip to tail, a perfect slit of pure white light through the thickening purple haze not more than a blades edge in width. Within a heart beat it was wide as a man's hand within two more shoulders breath, and then they started to come. A single perfect leg slid naked through the portal, alabaster white to the ankle, and jet black talons bellow. She strode forth, one arm a delicate claw the other clutching a serrated blade. Bare as a babe even so it was her eyes that held the gaze, faintly glowing with the promise of unbridled sensation. The daemonette was a sight to see and she would not be the last.

These elves had faced daemons in the field before and knew them to be a fearsome foe, but not invincible. Misgivings about this mission were vindicated and all prepared themselves for battle once more. Then the portal flashed open wider still. White light filled the eyes, the nose, the ears, that impossible light! It was everything and nothing all at once. The light that was music and death and delight built worlds in an instant; then it was gone.

Five elves opened their eyes in a small Asur village at midday. It was harvest time; they knew it was harvest time because the harvest feast was being prepared, three long tables joined in a vast U shape about the very centre of the settlement. Gleaming and sweaty on a divan of hay and silk there sat an elf Syjahel knew well, if by image only. An elf dead some four millennia and more, amongst the finest of Aenarion's commanders, Gabriel Vasht.

Clutched around him elves clad in strips of silk and pretty beads took their pick of the harvest feast. Clad in little more albeit of harsh cloth the common folk brought their tribute with bowed head and honeyed smile praying for the day they might have their turn upon the palequin.

"My friends," a strong, deep voice cut across the merriment "We have visitors, let there be dancing!"

So ends the tale of group 28 as told on these pages
