Well, after more than an hour pratting around with it, I got it working (Anger. Yeah...).
It seems pretty good, but you feel a bit detached from the action compared to Mass Effect (which is several levels of awesome). Still fighting my way out of the castle, though.

You're still playing your Origin story Rork, it's slightly different for every possible race/class combination
I felt drawn into it from the get go, while Mass Effect was ok all the way to the very ending where it got great. Dragon Age is awesome from the start.
The amount of lore (original lore mind you! it's not some done to death setting) is enormous, your companions feel like real people (yes, you can actually make mistakes and make them leave, or even attack you if they really disagree with you) and their banter is simply marvelous. I can't wait for online play they have in plans.

I finished the game for the first time today! About 60h played... after I checked the % of game finished (bear in mind it includes every single quest and side quest in the game, including all 6 origin stories) I got... 50%!!!
Even if origin stories make up 5% each (I doubt it) that's 25%, so that would leave me with 25% of undiscovered content after I've been to almost everywhere <.< (didn't get the "visited every area in the game" achievement )
Game is MASSIVE.
Also, first thing I did after finishing...
I started second character with different origin >.> Dwarf Noble!

I bought dragon age last week and so far I may have played 2 - 3 hours... It seems like a very cool game, but it hasn't really pulled me in yet. I am starting to feel spoiled by open environment RPG's like Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout and although dragon age is far from linear, I am missing the freedom that open environment offers.... I am also noticing it has alot of similarities to the fable series, althoug it is clearly more complex in every way.
My biggest issue is the text size... Or maybe I just need to get glasses. My TV isn't the greatest, as I haven't joined the LCD/Plasma age yet. This is creating a big obstacle for me since I am finding the large amount of reading to be difficult. Trying to navigate the tactics screen for one, is a chore and I haven't even bothered with trying to read any of the codex yet. I had the same issue with star ocean too, I think I am seriously upgrading my 27" on boxing day.
I am also wondering why they have three different types of currency, not that it is a big deal, but what is the point?
Some of the armor and weapon options seem a little over kill too. Having multiple tiers of each armor and weapon class seems a little excessive, but not somthing I would complain about.
I am looking forward to getting more into the game though, the party aspect of it really interests me. I haven't played a party based RPG since final fantasy 10, so it should be refreshing.. I love the weapon options too, like being able to wield two hand weapons! Why is it so hard to put that option in any other game?
I started my first character as a female, human, rouge BTW and I just defeated the daemon in red cliff... Did anyone else think it looked allot like a deamonette of slannesh?

You made a mistake getting it for a console...
The graphics are much worse than PC version and the controls are horrible.
Not to mention that you won't be able to get any of the user made content which is one of the major upsides of the game.

OK, so now I'm starting to get into it (I only play 2, maybe three hours a day). It's definitely improved since I first started playing it, which I suppose is often the case with RPG/plot style games.
The combos you can get off with magic is pretty nifty (ice them then smash them ), as are many of the skills.
The setting has a medieval theme - Medieval times had currencies that used imperial measurements (i.e. pre-decimalisation). Like the UK had with pounds, shillings and pence. It's one of those things that adds to the richness of the setting.

I am about to get started on my third time through and I am trying to figure out how people are getting so much time out of this game? I am on normal and the first play through took 17 hours, second took 24(I took my time) but I hear people taking as much as 100 hours. As of the second play through I have all but 5 achievements(blew through the origin stories just to see what they consisted of). The everyplace one, 250 hit one, all possible endings, and the two for the golem (haven't bothered to get him yet cause heard he made it kinda easy mode, will for the hard play through)
Can't wait to do it with the warrior playthrough to try and get that 250 one. Anyone have any advice on a build? I know berzerker is pretty much mandatory for that critical strike, but how to make it so the warrior is usable?
Rogue was easy sauce with all the back stab damage, my total at the end was like 54% of party damage.
Mage was easy, went arcane warrior and just didnt take any damage(with full juggernaut of course).
Any advice would be appreciated.
The controls are indeed more complicated for the console, however I find that that makes it more fun on the difficulty aspect anyway. I actually have to play smart, or if I dont want to micromanage pick really good tactics to use.

Always look for the knife from the shadows.
Wait a minute, how do you hide a +2 flaming longsword in the shadows?

Listen to every bit of dialogue, talk to your companions, explore every are thoroughly. Read The Codex.
My first playthrough took around 50 hours.
You didn't get the golem so you are clearly skipping content. Who knows what else you missed? You don't have to have the golem in the party if you heard its too powerful, but it's worth having it around for the hilarious conversations.
For the 250 hit on a warrior you need either archer (Arrow of Slaying can get that) or Two handed specialist. Final Blow from berserker is far from mandatory, it eats your entire stamina on one hit. Will probably help with the achievement though.
Bear in mind that console difficulty is a notch easier than PC, so if you're playing on normal it's like if you were playing on easy on PC. And easy is, well, easy.

I find combining warriors with ice magic from Morrigan/Wynne vicious. My character is a warrior (champion) and I bring Alistair along pretty much all the time - when both have Overpower you can usually get a critical on most opponents, which will shatter them (It was mildly amusing to do it to ogres and golems).
Having two opponents dead within seconds really swings it in your favour.
But I've also found that leveling up when you're getting creamed is also a good thing .
