Have I got it right this time?

Post by widowson »

My name is Widowson, I am a new recruit to your group. Currently I am awaiting the new version of the Dark Elves rumoured to be appearing in October, I have been playing/painting proper Elves for almost 20 years. Also interested in ancient Greece, War of the Roses, 30 years War and the War of the three kingdoms. I hate space marines and ***** Elves, and any other army that is designed to uber- powerful, i.e any army that is not DE. I used to work for GW in one of their stores in Scotland, that is where I fostered my hatred for anything non DE. I also do not know why my description of the shiny blue , white and silver Elves has been starred out, but hey I'm old and don't understand lots of things. I would also like to apologies to Melle, for jacking his thread, that does not sound right, but it earned me the suffix "threadjacker" which I kind of like.
So hopefully I have worked out how to post stuff (on the computer, not in a shiny red post box), and there may be hope for olds like me!

Thank you for your indulgence.

Welcome Widowson. You're in good Company, a whole lot of us olds to be had in the ranks here. The best part of that is the sheer weight in exp to be gained, maybe less so in the constantly changing game/tactic sense, but what is lacking there is more than made up for in the painting and modeling area. Speaking for myself, I may be crap on the table, & crap on the workbench, but there are a whole range of amazing members that constantly update the forums here. Enjoy your stay.

My first Citadel minies were orcs with fitted bases. Used black to shade, wiped it off then highlighted with white. Previous to that it was either Napoleonic Wars, or WW2. Fantasy was a bit of a revelation really, after the orcs it was the first of the Chaos warriors, then beakie marines!

I'm in Glasgow.

Reason I'm asking is that if you are in the whereabouts and fancy some tabletop carnage then I play at the games club @ Woodside Halls.

(Trying to get those guys to play FB is like trying to get blood out of the proverbial lump of mineral)

Have a game lined up for this Tuesday...my first non-household game of 2013!

I'm in South Lanarkshire, a little village called Lesmahagow. I haven't actually played a game since leaving GW East Kilbride just before they closed it down. I then sold my entire DE army, and my IG for 40k, which incidentally I am not really into. I looked at some of the new forgeworld minies for the Empire, but got bored with those really quickly. It seems for me that for fantasy nothing compares to the true Elves. Also have some Elysian Drop troopers, but went all star wars on their asses, got pretty bored with those also. Currently working on some of Victrix ancient Greeks, turning some of them into Spartan men of bronze. The sprues don't contain enough bronze breastplate figures, mostly linothorax, which during the early wars with Persia the Spartiate didn't really go in for. The biggest problem with doing things the way I am is I am now left with a shed load of guys wearing very fashionable linen or perhaps leather armour. The figures are very good though, some of the best non - GW I have seen.
Still, I am looking forward to the new DE Army book coming out, because I feel it is now time to start raiding for slaves again!

Cool.

My existing DE spearmen are very much Spartan inspired. The PnM forum is a great place to display, share ideas and find inspiration :)

Well, my idea for DE is based round a raiding force. A core of Corsairs supported by three units of crossbows, one for each Reaper battery,
Dark riders, shades, Mengil Manhides Marauders and possibly a hydra or kraken depending on the new models and rules. How do I get onto that forum you mentioned?

The coming new army book will be more friendly for raiding forces:
NEW PLastic Dark Riders
NEW Plastic Scroungerunner (one-wheel chariot pulled by horses, with 2 corsairs and a catapult)
NEW Plastic Hydra/Kraken
Blister Dark Fleet Admiral, A kind of hero who can join RBTs

Manhides is no longer available. His unit can play shades, though (but not the command group).

Thanks Calisson, Manhide no longer available? Where have I been? Perhaps cold one Knights instead! I was actually thinking of using Dark Eldar wyches legs with DE torsos, just to give them some movement and make them more dynamic! The shades that is, not the CoK's.

or sell them and get rich :D

I would buy the command group, if they were clean metal! One wheeled chariots sound mental, I think it would be nice if the new crossbows borrowed the design from Van Helsing!
