Hello,
After many years of playing Warhammer, I have finally decided to start fielding an army I've always wanted: the amazing looking Dark Elves. I have some units I picked up on B-town, mostly core, until I decide what else I really need.
Any and all pointers and tips are much appreciated as I start out on this journey.

Yep, awesome minis and good rules.
As for pointers and tips, there is a whole section of the forums for that. Read and learn. Also I highly recommend watching some battle reports on YouTube. You can talk general strategy and tactics all day, but seeing them "in action" in battle reports is highly useful as well because it's a concrete example.
