Druchii Lustria Campaign Fluff "The Reckoning"!

Post by Jimworm »

Hello! I for one can't wait the new Lustria book, so I sat down at my computer one night and write a prologue for a campagin using the new rules and in the meantime make do with skirmishes in the mountains (for reasons you will see) anyway, I've put the fluff here for your viewing pleasure and PLEASE tell me if find any plot problems or anything, thanks very much! Anyway here it is, it's pretty long (almost 5 pages!) and remeber it's a 'what if' story!

THE RECKONING

The kin strife has ended and history has seen the temple of Khaine the victor. With the remained of both forces now supporting the Witch King’s eternal war in Ulthuan. But what if things had happened differently? What if Morathi had refused to surrender and had been slain with the last of her troops, or what if the Cult had proven to be the stronger force? We will never know. But as we all know, slay a thousand fathers and fate will continue on it’s great plan, but everyday a choice is made that has the potential to send fate spinning from it’s course…

So what if Morathi had chosen to go south, to Lustria instead of remaining in Naggaroth? So join me reader as we enter the strange phenomenon, known only as the ‘trousers of time’.

Picture the scene it is winter in southern Naggaroth, the camp of the Cult of Slaanesh is before you, full of warriors, priestesses and daemons. And as we draw closer we can see a stream of warriors entering the camp, the gloom of defeat evident over their heads. A single swordsman leaves the column and approaches the pavilion in the centre of the camp. This is the pavilion of Morathi, supreme commander of the Cult of Slaanesh, mother to the Witch King and wife to Anerion the defender. The swordsman nears and passes words with the armed elves at the pavilion’s entrance. One of the guards nods and enters the pavilion. A few seconds later she emerges with Morathi. Behold Morathi, cruel, ruthless and the most beautiful woman in the known world. Her black hair flowing gently around her figure in the breeze. The swordsman bows and delivers his message. It is the last he will ever deliver. When he has finished Morathi screams and with a flick from her dagger slits his throat. She storms back into the pavilion as the warrior’s life bleeds away.

The message that the ill-fated warrior brought was of ill news indeed for Morathi. He was the second in command of the Cult of Slaanesh’s northern forces. He bears a message of defeat, a message repeated far to often for Morathi’s liking. Everywhere the Cult is being forced back by Hellebron the hag and commander of the forces of the Temple of Khaine. Morathi knows she is losing this war and that the Cult will face total destruction unless action is taken.
The Cult of Slaanesh is a new faction in Dark Elf politics, it’s founder Morathi, has often feigned alignment to the Temple of Khaine to irk her rival Hellebron and exploit the power offered to her by being the King’s mother. For many years these two political enemies have been circling each other unable to strike out at the other for fear of retribution from central authority. But many Dark Elf nobles have long suspected that the worship of Slaanesh has never totally vanished. Indeed many of the oldest elves, survivors from the sundering, remained secret Slaanesh worshippers. And Morathi is one of these elves. She has worked long and hard to secretly increase the worship of Slaanesh in Dark Elf homeland. This has proven very difficult as many parts of Dark Elf society is geared towards the worship of Khaine, such as Har Ganeth, the city of executioners. Also the temple of Khaine has gone to extreme lengths to restrict this new churches’ power. Often egged on by Hellebron, on the night of murder when Witch Elves stalk the streets and it is during this time that Hellebron sends her agents to kill, kidnap and terrorise the agents of Morathi and the Slaanesh cultists. Try as she might Hellebron could never find any proof linking Morathi with the Slaanesh cultists for she had woven her net well and would not allow her erstwhile rival to get the better of her.

However, Morathi’s confidence got the better of her. Even as Archaon’s endless hordes marched on the Empire, she headed north to renew her pact with the dark prince Slaanesh. With her true colours revealed Morathi sent her massive army of daemons, humans and elves into the dense jungles of Lustria to retrieve items of great power to allow her to rest power from the temple of Khaine.
The war with the Lizardmen dragged on for many months with both sides locked in a deadly stalemate. Eventually the Lizards broke through the Cult’s lines of battle and Morathi, sensing defeat ordered the Cult back north.

The Lizardmen tried to take back the lost ground but the Cult fought tooth and nail for the northern jungle and eventually the Slaan gave up and went back to the business of the Old One’s plans.

The Cult marched back to Naggaroth with little in terms of spoils. But it did not feel defeated. Far from it. They had drawn blood in the name of their god and had caused much grievance to the Lizardmen. And what little they did bring back proved to be highly effective. Jewels that glowed with dark light protecting their wearer’s from the most grievous of blows. Great swords that could slay the mighty as well as the lowly with equal ease. Despite the horrendous losses the Cult was at a boom time and Dark Elves flocked to this new faction. Elves began to mutter how the Khaine worshippers seemed weak against the all conquering armies of this new Cult, the Cult boasted more Sorceresses than the temple of Khaine and the agents of Slaanesh began to prey on Hellebron’s precious political power. Though she may have been mocked at court for failing to attain victory and returning with but a few of these mighty artefacts Morathi had promised. The King’s advisers scorned him for allowing his Mother to take so much from the treasury and return with so little. But despite this the balance of power was slowly teetering away from the Temple of Khaine and towards the Cult, the hearts and minds of the people were slowly being won and both Morathi and Hellebron knew that the champion of the people would be the one that could get the most converts.

Morathi knew that she was winning this feud between her and Hellebron, the hag couldn’t strike out at the popular, rich Cult. Hellebron knew that backlash would destroy her faction and see Morathi and the Cult become the new religion in Naggaroth. All she could do was sit in her temple and fume, in a way only Dark Elves can. Morathi should have left it there. The mutterings in the markets would turn into talk in the towns. Which would lead to the politician’s prattling which would lead to the Nobles attending a different temple each week that would lead to the Highbournes becoming intrigued by this new church which would all add up to a almost total conquest of the Dark Elf religious system.

She should have left it, should have let nature run its course. But the Cult was restless, the marauders from the north wanted fresh foes and many daemons returned to the nether. The Cult’s warriors grew restless and Morathi had acquired a new taste for war. And so, because fortune is fickle and fate is foul Morathi orders her Cult to make war upon their hated rivals the temple of Khaine.

This was all Hellebron needed. The exact backlash that she feared happened to the Cult. This new and exiting religion that people thought the Cult to be turned into a horde of violent murders and daemon worshippers who would try and make you think the way they wanted you to and would sell your soul to appease their dark masters. This was the beginning of the end for the high days of the Cult.

Initial raids and battles went in the Cults favour, the lessened and confused Khaine troops proving to be easy prey. But as the Khaine faction gained more support the tide slowly began to turn. And when the Cult arrived at Naggarond and found the gates barred to them by order of Hellebron the downward spiral began. With all cities now treated as hostile, Morathi took stock of her situation. Hellebron had almost all the nobles behind her and that gave Hellebron an almost limitless military force. The Cult was also suffering badly. Many humans had either been killed or decided that Slaanesh no longer blessed Morathi so had gone home. The Daemons were refusing to heed Morathi’s call and those Dark Elves that were not as passionate as the rest of the Cult has returned to the cities where Hellebron welcomed them and promised amnesty for the deserters. Morathi’s troops seemed to lose the war in every theatre of war. The Cult was pushed slowly back into southern Naggaroth and only the timely intervention of a slave revolt saved the Cult from being destroyed in its’ route to the highlands south of Naggarond.

And it is here that we return to the camp. It has been three days and Morathi has only just emerged from her red fury and once again emerges from her pavilion to give her marching orders to what remains of the Cult.

Morathi knows to stay in Naggaroth borders on suicide and so she must leave for safer havens. But where could she go? Naggaroth is the only Dark Elf nation. The march routes to the north are blocked by Hellebron’s Legions. And the jungles of Lustria proved to be far from safe the last time she ventured there. That was however the last time she went there. Now though forces loyal to the Cult are stationed in northern borders of the jungle. All of them seasoned campaign veterans. With only one course of action open she orders the Cult south. Hellebron also knows this and both armies are caught in a mad dash for the border. The lessened Cult reaches it first and so Morathi marches into Lustria with the furious Hellebron and her bloodthirsty warriors in close pursuit.

However the forced march and the harsh mountain terrain have greatly depleted the Cult. Many Dark Elves have wandered off back home in the face of such a physical challenge for a seemedly lost cause.

With less than two thousand warriors left the once mighty Cult numbering in the tens of thousands enters the jungles to meet with what was left by Morathi to act as a garrison. Her army, formed now only of hot heads and diehards marches for the newly founded city of Dalakoi to greet the Cult commander.

With Hellebron but a few weeks march behind her, the sheer size of her forces impeding the speed of her march. Morathi prepares her defences and waits for the hammer blow to fall.

And it here we must leave this tale until GW releases Warhammer Realms: Lustria! Where the final reckoning in this What If? Story shall take place!

This probably belongs in the History of the Druchii forum, seeing as it's a story.

A little mistake: First it's a 'she' and then a 'he'.
(I haven't red the full story, but it looked good.
