Smaug, the eternity king?

Post by abraxus »

With the release of Smaug for "The Hobbit", is anyone else looking at the model thinking "that would make a great Malekith the Eternity King model"? Model a throne on there and bam, don't mess with me!.

A little large, yes, but are dragons supposed to be small (and not look like they can support their riders)?

The only issue is the 490$ price tag. If I bought that I would never get it built as the wife would kill me (though I'm sure it would look like an accident).

21cm x 23 cm x 13cm -- how does that compare with Nagash?

Its an incredibly awesome model. Very much better than the old (and no longer available) great fire dragon by FW and I would be tempted to get the model but for the price! So much for the hobbit being the more afordable of GWs games!

I agree the Forge world Fire dragon is a better sculpt if you can get hold of it.

I really like this new Smaug, and agree with the OP that it would make an excellent Dragon rider base.

...just can't get my head round the cost!

(Although due to being limited edition, buying it is actually an investment!)

I believe it is only limited to 200 if you want one this year. It didn't see anything regarding post xmas availablilty.

And I guess I don't know the difference.... I thought Smaug was a dragon... what makes him a wyvern?

Dragons have four limbs and two wings.

Wyverns have two hind limbs and two wings (forelimbs).

Aesthetically, wyvern Dragons always look more biologically feasible, including the greatest of all cinematic Dragons, Vermithrax Pejorative:

Awesome knowledge. Cannot wait to shoot down friends/pub quiz opponents/random strangers on the train/etc. with this genius.

On the original point, as well as the cost, I never buy limited editions anymore. I'm too keen to convert, but it feels kind of wrong on a limited edition.

You are welcome.

Smaug is already gone from both the UK and US.

Is it just me or are GW shooting themselves in the foot over and over again this year?

He isn't limited edition, he had 200 copies that were ready to go (you will receive before end of year), so limited availability before 2015.

Essentially, they made 200 models ahead of time, now they are only able to sell as they can make and I imagine it takes quite a bit to make this guy. I wouldn't think that they would have more then 10 copies on hand at any point, unless the demand was huge.
