Maelstrom Games Druchii.net Painting Competition!

Post by Dark Alliance »

Welcome one and all to the first great Maelstrom Games Druchii.net Painting Competition! There are some fantastic prizes up for grabs for 1st, 2nd & 3rd, where the winners will be chosen by d.net members, and a special "Maelstrom Award" which will be decided by myself and our Studio Manager Tim Fisher.

Here's how it works then.

Members are allowed a single entry into the main competition for the first three prizes, plus a single entry for the "Maelstrom Award". For the main competition you need to paint a single miniature, either mounted or on foot. It can be from any manufacturer but must be Dark Elf related in some way - you can use your imagination as to how it relates!

For the "Maelstrom Award" you can enter whatever you want, be it a single miniature, a unit, a diorama whatever. Combine your imagination and your painting ability to surprise us!

A photograph of your entry, stating whether it is for the main competition or for the "Maelstrom Award", must be posted in this thread by March 31st 2010. We will then sort the entries into two separate threads for the voting. Members will then have 7 days to cast their votes.

The prizes.

First Place - a £25.00 Maelstrom voucher
Second Place - a £20.00 Maelstrom voucher
Third Place - a £15.00 Maelstrom voucher

The Maelstrom Award - a £25.00 Maelstrom voucher

Other rules and stuff.

This competition is open to all druchii.net members and we actively encourage painters of all abilities to enter, particularly into the "Maelstrom Award" category.

Please ensure your photograph is as clear as possible so your entry can be judged accurately.

Please ensure your photograph is within the limits permitted for display here.

The miniature mustbe painted by yourself, and should be a miniature painted specifically for this competition. There is a certain amount of trust here but if you do submit someone else's miniature and you are discovered, you will be disqualified from the event and may well be banned from druchii.net.

Good luck to everyone!

The way I read the rules, it has to be something Dark Elf'ish ;)

You can enter whatever you want into the main competition as long as there is a link to Dark Elves, but anything can be entered into the "Maelstrom Award" category.

Does "Dark Elves hate this guy" count as a link?

Yes, you're restricted to GW models only, and no customization is allowed.
Furthermore, you have to use GW paints only.
And you must restrict yourself to a maximum of 4 colours (blends are allowed).
But these restrictions apply only because you're a Slave on the Altar!
All others may use whichever model they wish, including their own customizations, and whichever paint they wish!

EDIT:
In addition, you have the restriction to use only GW brushes as well!
Hey, wait,

Woo! I've got ideas for both contests. I was going to do them anyway, but now I'll do them sooner rather than later and to a higher standard. Good luck to all!

So I can just enter a couple of Empire guys? Or does the site competition have to be models that have DE connotations somehow?!

O.K, what exactly counts as a "link to Dark Elves" I WAS considering a diorama using an old metal DE RXB man I have but isn't it supposed to be single miniatures only?! Or can it be a small diorama ala the "Duel" category of Golden Demon?

NK.

Mate, for the main three prizes your idea is fine as there is a Dark Elf in there. If you want to make it a diorama fine, no probs.

If you want to enter a couple of Empire guys on their own, then that's where the "Maelstrom Award" category comes in.

Thanks Gary - if I can find the time I will do both..... But for now I think just possibly just a lone Empire guy

I suggest you photograph it with the background which best compliments your miniature.

This sounds very interesting... I think I might use it as an excuse to start painting again. It's been a while... Can't wait to see what everyone enters.

Maelstrom Entry

Post by Blaznak »

Greetings: This is my entry for the Maelstrom award. It is Mallus on Spite. They are coming down some ruined temple stairs. On the ground lies a skeleton as mute witness to dangers lurking nearby...
Spite has a saddle belt I modeled. The Skeleton is from the old Citadel Skeleton Army in a box set.

Here is my entry for the main competition, a Dark Elf General issuing a command. Its an old Marauder, I believe. It was a fun miniature to paint as he had a lot of character. I figured he would find the biggest rock in the area to stand on in order to 1) see the battle field, and 2) watch for any backstabbing power grabbers who might be getting too close!

Image

It was lots of fun to get inspired to paint up some older figures for this contest!

PS. Thank you to EVERYONE who showed me what I was doing wrong on uploading. Sigh. Whatever happened to daubing paint on a cave wall...
