The Winners of the first Maelstrom painting competition

Post by Dark Alliance »

Picture this.

Morathi has charged you with the task of creating an artifact to adorn the gracious walls of her inner chambers. After having tentatively entered, despite the guaranteed threat of a slow and painful death on the altars of Khaine if you fail to please, you have made the final selection.

Your blood feels cold as ice, your stomach is churning with fear and your legs are struggling to keep you standing. The chosen are announced.

First - Dumbledore
Second - Pap3r
Third - Blaznak

But who has won the right to have their piece displayed at the side of the throne?

Dumbledore. (edited for clarity :? wins the Maelstrom Award)

"Dumbledore" - the name is quietly chanted at first. By some with awe, by others with greed and envy. "Dumbledore" - the chant becomes louder as he is raised above the heads of the waiting Nobles and brought before Morathi. She congratulates him on his skill as the piece is placed at the side of the throne. "Would you like to take the place on the other side of the throne?" she asks. Dumbledore nods in silent acceptance of the honour bestowed upon him by the most beautiful Elf ever to have lived.

"Good" replies Morathi as she plunges the poisoned dagger into his heart. The gathered Witch Elves fill Morathi's chalice with his blood and place it on the service table to her side. "Now you are here to watch over your masterpiece" she murmers, and as she sips from the cup her eyes appear to shine a little brighter...

We at Maelstrom would like to thank everyone for their hard work and appreciate all the entries. Without you there would be no competition to judge so thank you for the support.

All we need now is for the winners to pm me their email address so we can arrange for their prizes.

Congrats to the late Dumbledore.
For those who want to see again his last masterpiece:
Dumbledore Posted: Wed Mar 24, 2010 3:23 pm Post subject: My Dreadlord on foot for the main competition
If you go there and have a look, make sure you avoid Morathi's assassins guarding it by now.
Congrats also to all other competitors, who were convincing enough to get some votesas well - and will have a greater chance next time without Dumbledore.

Wow thank you very much everyone! I would have never bothered to try and push my painting without this competition. I must also mention my appreciation of cultofkhaine and Malekith85's conversion work. Seeing everyone's best all on show certainly gave me a lot to think on. I hope that these competitions continue on here - they really encourage improvement in the hobby for me and I'm sure for the rest of us as well.

Thank you Maelstrom Games!

We will run a summer competition as a follow up to this. Timmy and I will work out an 'interesting' format for the next one though...

Oh, and Maelstrom's contact and getting store credit up and running was fantastic. Thank you very much. I am happy (sad?) to see so much available at such reasonable prices. Now I'm tempted to spend more... Hee hee!

Edit: Hey! I just noticed. NOT ONLY do you sell below cost, you give a "cash back" credit on purchases. Wow. Very cool. How DO you do it? Must be magic...

Thanks again,
Blaz

Yes that sounds great - I'd be in on that!

Should be for a converted and painted single minature on a specific theme so everyone starts at the same time on a level playing field.

I think you should move this thread into the main discussion below - most people over look the threads at the top of the page and would not realise that this discusion is open again.

Bring on the new comp!

Another competition sounds grand... if the category is right, I'll most certainly try to enter (provided it's not during exam time...).
When I think of something witty, I shall put it here.
