Highly converted Manticore - Finished; at last.

Post by Xizor »

Hey,

Now don't worry, this isnt the new Storm of Magic Manticore (though I am working on one of them as well).

Some of you may have seen my old topic which was following the progress of this model, Ive also been putting loads of photos on Twitter.

Its been a long, painfull task, However, after what seems like forever, the Manticore is finished!

I am really really pleased with this, definitely my favourite model Ive ever done; well worth the hours and hours of blood, sweat and tears ive poured into it.

Lets take a look...

Please let me know what you think :)

I think his first outing on the Tournament Scene will be at the Mansfield Maul so if you're there, come see him in flesh (he'll probably in my dead pile nice and early so you can get a good look!!)

Fantastic work! The wings are amazing and the rider's weapon is very cool.

I can't quite tell; where is the mount connected to the base? Under the left armpit?

That is absolutely amazing. I really like the colors since they look rich yet vibrant and the details such as the spots and the base really bring the piece together.
Cheers,

I am also not a big fan of the purple wings, but otherwise -- Wow!!!!!

Can you link back to the discussion of the modeling? I am interested in how it was made.

I'm with Dyvim Tvar, the purple seems very out of place and dtracts from the model because the surface area is so large. But otherwise, nicely done!

I should be so lucky!

Thanks for all the replies guys. Perhaps purple isn't the optimum colour choice for the wing membranes, but I didn't have much of a choice as I wanted to link it with everything else in my army. So I stand by my decision, though can understand the dislike.

The beast is connected to the base via a large pin from under his left armpit down through the base.

I'll link up to an original thread with the WiP modeling shots later when I'm on the laptop not my phone.

Once again, thanks for the replies,

Chris

It may just be the angle of the photo, but it looks like it just dived chin-first into the rocks.

Awesome job nonetheless. I wish I could paint half as well as you.

Thanks a lot mate. It's more about sticking at it and putting the time & effort in as opposed to actual skill!

Also, it's just the angle of the photos, the head clears the rock fine :)

The head is from the Dark Elf Beastmaster on Manticore kit. I really like and have been using it for years on my important character models / general's.

As ive said before I am doing up a new SoM Manticore aswell. I've tried to make it look less rubbish. Got lots to do before that though.

Thanks for more feedback, all appreciated.

Well the paint is awesome, the cheetah skin looks great and i dont even mind the purple wings. The model itself not so much. The base is really nice, rider is prety sweet too (did you greenstuffed the whole cloak or am i just unfamiliar with that particular bit?), except for the pointing finger he was sticking in a bee hive few minutes before :D, but the manticore itself is big dealbreaker for me. The posing of front part of body feels weird to me, kinda like "i will give you a hug, oh wait, whats that over there?", the part of wings where they are attached to the body is so skinny that if that manticore dives like she is right now, those wings simply must have break off and those skully are complete nonsense because try to fly with skulls banging you in the wings... The scorpion tail is really nice feature though.
I hope im not too big nagger :) and i must admit its the best conversion made from IoB griffin i have seen (ive seen like 3 or 4 including yours) though i think there might be couple of things changed here and there to make it breathtaking.

Really nice conversion and painting, Maybe the old manticore head looks a bit odd, I´d used a plastic HE lion one, IMHO it looks better...

By contrast to others, I like the purple wings. That's probably because I know what the rest of Chris's army looks like. I think it will fit in very well.

Mate it looks awesome dude! Make sure it does make an appearance at the Maul dude.
