Hello everyone!

I've decided to start on my fourth fantasy army! I had the idea to do an octopus / sea creature themed dark elf army a year ago and never saw it through. This is my first model with many more to come. Hope you like it!

Bloody awesome! What did you use for the head of the trident?

Awesome. I suspect your going to end up with a bit of a "marmite" theme (people will either love it or hate it) but I really like the idea of having a completely unique army and think this could work really well.

Wow, thanks everyone!

More on theme
So, the army is roughly based on the Underworld Sea fluff found in the book. My elves will be one of the groups that first explored there and never returned. They lost their way, have been living down there for a while and have begun to worship the primary inhabitants of the underworld sea... the Kraken! The most powerful and loyal servants of the Kraken have begun to mutate to be more kraken-like.

Models
The army will be heavily corsair themed, I can imagine a small fleet of corsair led ships being the main part of the exporation / raiding force. The kraken banner top and symbols will be everywhere in the army.

Conversion ideas (some of this I already have done):

Dreadlord on Dark Peg - Fellheart conversion
Sorceress - Octopus converted casters
Cauldron - Some sort of kraken transformation ritual thing? Unsure about this.

Spearmen - Corsair bodies, spearmen heads, spears and shields
Corsairs - Regular corsairs, all non-helmed heads

Cold One Knights - Cold ones were first discovered down here (i think). Either way, I really like these models. Not sure what to do for conversions.
Shades - The navigators of the place. Corsair themed with hooded heads.

Hydra - The kraken!

In summary, no I won't be making an army of squid people or anything like that =). Just of bunch of kraken worshiping dark elves!

@thetosh - The trident is from an old dark eldar (Lelith?) model. It was exactly what I needed for that conversion.

Thanks for looking and I hope to have more up soon.

I like the corrupted sea creatures theme. Looks like it could be a lot of fun :)

I'm really intrigued by the Hydra/Kraken idea. I've never seen a hydra model that worked for me, but the idea an ambulatory quid has real potential.

Hi all!

A small update!

Spearmen. Very much WIP. The spears tips look horrible!

You are off to a very interesting start so far. Early question though - you've kept your metalics consistent on your models so far except on your spearmen's spear tips. I'm not sure what to make of this. Or is that the "work in progress" part?

Thanks everyone.

@phierlihy - Yeah... I never really intended to do NMM with the armor. In fact, I didn't really have a plan other than "wow, this looks cool". After doing it though I do think I need to do NMM for the spears, either blue like the armor or a silver.

Do them in blue. Be consistant or they're going to look totally out of place!

i think it looks brilliant as it is. the armour looks painted/laquered, possibly made of hardened leather (you know sailors and metal armour has never been the best of friends) and the speartips looks like crude cold metal, probably a little corroded.

possibly the trident on the sorceress should have a different color, but i think the spearmen are brilliant as they are. i wouldnt change a thing :)

very cool, but i think it is a bad choice to paint the RXB in the same color as the armour. i think it would be way cooler if the were black or brown, so you can distinguish them properly.

painting and convertion is magnificent though :D

Wow.. just wow.. I think the theme is great.. and what you have done for painting already is awesome.. for cold ones, why not convert them to sea horse style? Remove the legs, and have them more like floating or skimming on water?

Whatever you do, keep it up though.. the coloring and style just add such a great mood to the army already.

Cheers

Those shades are fantastic!

Im not sold on the sorceress (not a criticism, just a personal opinion) but the rest of the army is looking cool too.

Hey, very cool idea.
The only thing i REALLY do not like is octopusish sorceresses...
I'm currently working on (non octopus!) dark elves worshipping the great old one (and playing like WoC, therefore the different basing). I'm mainly using corsairs and dark eldar bits, and they're coming around very nicely (if a bt slowly...). I'll keep an eye on your thread, as i suspect, tentacles aside, i may get some inspiation from it!
