I clicked on this with no prior knowledge of what you were doing, and I saw assassins with green blades and thought they must have been hacking through the jungle. I like your warriors with White Lion legs, nice kitbash.

Thanks Layne - that was my attempt at a poison coated blade :)

Lol, I think Layne is in the minority there. Green is pretty much the universal color of poison. Disney told me so.

I don't normally like yellowish green for poison, but here it works well due to the contrast with the blue cloth.

Working on a new board for Armies on Parade this year. Will post the progress as I go over the next couple of weeks.

Step 1: Start with 1mm thick MDF board cut to 600x600mm. Paint the underside Black and seal with varnish. Top side using Polystyrene sheet cut hill sections. From a mould I had kicking about I made some paving for a brick road out of PVA glue.

Image

Step 2: Lots of PVA glue.... and more. Glued the rock sections down and made the glue for the water section.

Interesting start!

I'm surprised that 1mm PdF is strong enough for your display board.
Useful information... mmmh...

I'm surprised 1mm mdf is strong enough for anything. I don't think I've even seen any mdf less than 3mm thick for sale anywhere.

(Did you mean 10mm, Cultofkhaine? ;) )

Anyway, it's looking very nice so far. Was the mould for the road taken from the tower wall sections of the old Warhammer Fortress, by any chance?

Wooops! Cant get anything past you guys!!! Sorry typo - its 11mm MDF :D

Yes the mould was taken from one of the fortress walls - I used it on my pringles tower some time ago. Very easy to do, cover the whole thing in silicon with a silicon gun, let it dry and slowly peel it off - one very easy mould to make brick walls with or in this case a road. I filled the mould with standard PVA glue.

It's amazing what you can make from just polystyrene and a bit of glue.

Another update.

Step 3: Sand the board. I do this first by laying down a coat of PVA glue then sprinkling sand over the top and finally covering it again in a 50/50 PVA water mix to make sure the sand does not come off when I dry brush it.

Image

Here is a close up of the water, again this is just PVA glue painted on with a brush to give the board some depth.

Here is what the road looks like from my PVA silicon mould.

Next stage is to give it a good base coat. I sprayed all the PVA glue areas with a white base coat first to seal the glue and make it easier to paint.

Image

I also added some coarse gravel around the base of the rocks.

Then I gave it a good coat of black, blue and brown slowly building up the colours.

Blue is much easier to paint on a white background than black.

The water effect, without any "water effect" is amazing!
I have to try it. Definitely!
KUDOS!

Well the board is now done after lots of dry brushing.

Final steps included a matt seal then painting water effects over the sea area.

A fairly quick job this one and looks great with the army on it. I will post more photos wen I get the chance. Can't believe I have finished this army after 2 years of painting it.

I can't fit the whole 3000pts army on the board

It's parade day today so hopefully will get a few snaps together and then will take some photos of it in the photo booth later in the week.

Truly epic! How do you do make the strings on the repeater crossbows? Really nice idea. That spearman phalanx looks so bad ass.

Thanks LD - I use black cotton for the strings on the crossbows. I tie it off first with a small loop then use a tiny dab of super glue to keep it in place.

Yes it was a bit like that  It's a shame GW could have such a great event if they put some thought into it. We don't get Golden Demon, or the proper old style Armies on Parade day here any more.

I still like to work on a new army each year - that's the joy in it for me.

I wish - I have such a large collection of unpainted models at the moment it's hard to keep up.

This year I have a couple of units to finish from last years lizardman army and the new army will be based on the city of Gharond with a Slaanesh theme.

My long term goal is to have an army for each Dark Elf major city.
