[PLOG] The WAAAGH Studios - Studio Dark Elves army

Post by AlexHeap »

With a Fantasy tournament coming up in my area in a few months time I thought this would be a good excuse to start up a Dark Elves army. I've been wanting to collect Dark Elves for years but never got around to it for one reason or another. However when they got updated I knew I wouldn't be able to resist for much longer.

I'm sure you're all here to see pictures though and not just to read my rambling so here you go.

First up was a unit of Dark Riders:

and a Bloodwrack Shrine:

Let me know what you think.

Did you paint these or have an Assassin steal them from GW? :D

They look awesome. More inspiration for me.....

Dark Riders in particular are very clean.

Elven and invested with personality -- the mark of great painting!

Really nice - and I love the details, such as the way the blades of the CoB are painted.

Thanks for all the great comments and compliments guys, I'm glad you like them :)

I'm currently in the midst of that 2000pt Tournament I mentioned in the first post. 6 games down and I've made it through the group stages undefeated coming 3rd overall with total points taken of 11381. 2nd was another Dark Elf player with 11517 and 1st place was an Orcs and Goblins player with 12023. It's not over yet though, we've got the straight knock out rounds now and my next game will be on Monday night against some Shooting and Gyrocopter heavy dwarves.

The army's not quite fully painted yet but most of it's done with the latest models I've completed being these two Bolt Throwers:

All that's left to do is paint the BSB, Morathi and hopefully win the tournament!

Thanks for looking :)

They look great!

I particularly like the cracked earth effect on the base of the bolt thrower, may I ask how you did that?

GW Technical paint - Agrellan Earth. It dries like that.

I don't know how comes I haven't commented on this yet, but they look really beautiful. I especially love the palette and the cleanness of your painting. The models look bright without looking unrealistic and the details are simply amazing. Ace job and I look forward to seeing more from your army.
And congrats for your tournament results, I hope you win. :)

@Heartsbane: Yep that's Agrellan Earth from GW. I actually apply it before priming the models though so I can paint it whatever colour I like. Also helps with the adhesion of the cracked areas.

@Rowena: Thanks very much, I'm glad you like them :) Hopefully I wont disappoint with the rest of the force!

I've actually managed to get the BSB finished just in time for tonight's game:

Now it's time to go kill some Dwarves :D

Nicely done!

I hope you put the original banner top of that limited edition model to good use.

There is something to be said about the standard color scheme, especially when executed so well. Bravo!

Echoing the notes above - the colour scheme is awesome, and the painting so clean. I especially like the bolt thrower, where the silver/purple/brown motif is so powerful and well delivered. The tiny purple details on the crew has such amazing punch in the glossy silver. Really nicely done.

@Dyvim tvar: I got the BSB as part of a lot from ebay and he didn't come with the original banner sadly.

Thanks guys, it's a big encouragement to know that everyone likes how it's all looking :)

Well I managed to beat the Dwarves on Monday night so that means I'm through to the final stages on Saturday. Opponents are drawn randomly on the day so I'm not sure who I'll be playing but there are some really nasty lists in the mix so it's going to be tough.

Painting wise I've just got Morathi left to do. I decided to convert her a bit to make her look a bit different and here's what I came up with:
