15 years out of action - introducing Team Red or Dead!
After painting a bucketload of crossbowmen to get up to scratch, I've painted a big ol'd unit of executioners using the Army Painter Mega Paint Set. good collection of reds, the skin tones are very dark though, and the gold is very orange. so i've bought vallejo pale flesh and polished gold, which are both good (although i swear the paints used to cover a lot better back in the day...)
see what you think! the red will be a recurring colour in my army, of course.

Very very promising. As long as you aren't planning on using Black Guard in your army as well, I really like use of the Black Guard heads for Execs. Looking forward to seeing the final result with finished bases and something on the banner. What do you have planned?

Very nice start, they look nicely done, colour palette is good. Definitely looking forward to seeing the final result with bases.
Re: 15 years out of action - introducing Team Red or Dead!
lol yeah I forgot about the BG heads. Yeah they look good, the skull heads are absolutely awful so I used them instead. I won't be using BG I don't think. And if I do, I'll get some of the old models. And yes, they need basing!!

Very nice! What theme will your bases be, or have you not thought that far yet?
Re: 15 years out of action - introducing Team Red or Dead!
Executioners look good with BG heads. Nice.
Re: 15 years out of action - introducing Team Red or Dead!
I'll be honest, I'm a fan of the skull faces on the Executioners, I think it gives them a much more menacing look. However you've don't an incredibly good job on these ones with the Black Guard heads, they look awesome! I especially like the hair.
When do we get to see the crossbowmen?

how about... right now!
yeah re the BG heads, i come from a time of pointy hats and long hair; no chance am i going to have elves wearing skull helmets!! no chance. i really don't like those heads.
i like the way the red ties them together, but bit of a shame i got the old crossbowmen as they look like dwarves when compared to the execs. i probably won't ever use that many of them though so no big deal.
re basing them, a couple i bought were already based (as you can see), so i'll probably carry on like that. lol - i come from a time (you've heard that before) when the norm was to paint the base goblin green and leave it at that! hahaha! does that shade even exist? who cares, not buying citadel again! i plan to do a 'coming back to GW and warhammer, what's changed since i've been gone' post after i've played a couple more games.
cheers,
J

I really like the colour scheme, especially how the blueish armour ties up with the shadows on the cloaks. Very nicely done.

Re: 15 years out of action - introducing Team Red or Dead!
50 (fifty) sodding witch elves. i cannot believe how long it took. jesus christ. and now i wish i'd bought the avatars of war miniatures! so much better! oh well.
so i've done: 35 crossbowmen, 40 execs, and 50 WE's. need to base the former two unit and perhaps paint a few characters! oh and keep going with the cauldron of doom (see other thread for that progress).
i would also add: RED OR DEAD!

The CoB and Karibdyss look amazing. How long have you been painting? I'm just getting into the hobby and after I buy some models I'll be purchasing paints and so on. Any tips for a newbie?

Re: 15 years out of action - introducing Team Red or Dead!
I used to be the best of a bad bunch when I was a kid, but now I'd like to think I've achieved competency. Due in no small part to really having the range of paints required to do an army. Mixing is ok for a model or two but having ranges of reds blues and greens was really useful overall. And silvers too. And browns and so on!
Top tip: buy a big paint set. I got the Army Painter 'mega paint set' for about £70. Easily worth he investment but you can get them on eBay new for less. Don't use GW paints! Use ones with eye droppers. Buy Vallejo gold paint. And Vallejo glaze medium, and Vallejo gloss varnish for shiny bits.
