Beastslavers of Hag Greif's Plog
This theme has been in my mind for about a year now, and so I've finally decided to go for it. I'm eventually going for a theme of beast-slavers; pirates that go to foreign lands, collecting worthy specimens to fight alongside them. This is the beginning of their journey.

Re: Beastslavers of Hag Greif's Plog
The mighty dragon, Thorne. He is instrumental in bending the wills of foreign beasts to the will of the Druchii slavers. As being of magic, animals are drawn to him as the weak are drawn to the strong. Like an Alpha wolf, he sets the boundaries of who is welcome into the pack and who isn't. The weak or those refuse to submit are not tolerated by him, for a pack is only as strong as its weakest member. If any beast steps out of line, there is swift and brutal retribution.

A dragons bond to his rider goes deeper than that of even lovers. Not even the elves have such a monogamous relationship as a dragon and its rider, for even when apart their connection isn't severed. The longer the pair are together, the stronger is becomes. It is rumored that some riders and feel their Dragon's emotions from across oceans.

Whilst raiding the empire, the slavers were set upon by a marauding band of Waarg Riders. The goblins were probably attracted by the smell of burning buildings and flesh, however it was their bodies next on Khaine's blazing pyers. Their mounts have since served the true dominant pack with loyalty.

Re: Beastslavers of Hag Greif's Plog
My hydra and her handler, Lauren (my wife in full wedding gown. I'm recently married). The carnosaur, _____ (needs a name... and no, it won't be mine. The last thing I need is my gaming group talking about my wife riding me) was acquired in lustria, and has been to date, the most difficult of the beasts to break. It wasn't until the pack Alpha, Thorne, wrestled the beast into submission that the elves could approach the lizard. But even then, none save the Seeress, Lauren, could get close enough to ride it. Lauren uses her magic to hurl fire at those who would harm her loyal mount, and to heal it as the battle takes it's inevitable toll.
Still gotta remove lustrian runes and finishing touches to both monster and rider.

Really liking the airbrush-work on the beasts. I would, however, possibly go over the gold plating on the Carnosaur with a knife or file to remove the Lustrian runes, and then add a layer of Agrax Earthshade or Seraphim Sepia to them to really make them stand out.
And I don't see any problems at all with your wife riding you...?

Looked to the comments for this. Was not disappointed.
Really great paint jobs all around, I think. I especially like the red/black dragon merge. You pull it off really well

The Darkriders and Darkshards. The Dark Riders' job is to heard the prey into the rest of the slavers, while the Darkshards mow down those unworthy of joining the ranks of the Beastslavers

Soon to come, WIP shots of the hounds/musicians of each dark rider unit
EDIT: I was hosting images on twitter. But after a time, they would disappear from the thread, so I've rehosted most of the photos but some were lost, and now not all the photos are with the correct caption

I like the use of red on the warriors armour - it's quite striking.

Dark riders basing is done. Nagarothi Spring. The riders crest the hill surveying the horizon for signs of the waarg pack they've been tracking for weeks now.

OK so you hooked me in with all the clever prose and great comments, and the links don't seem to be working
I want photos!

That's silly! Playin with little statues, pretendin' they're fightin'! Why not just round up a bunch of real goblins and lettem' whack it out?
Re: Beastslavers of Hag Greif's Plog
Odd... They seem to be working for most. I have them hosted on twitter if that means anything
Edit: Twitter's host on those images isn't working for some reason. I'll fix it asap

Re: Beastslavers of Hag Greif's Plog
I used a baking soda, glue, and water mixture for the snow and it doesn't quite look right for *melting* snow. Melting snow needs a slightly transparent border to it, where the ice is thin enough that the color of the ground is showing through. So I'm going to try and add a super watered down version of the mixture on top of the current snow tomorrow.
Once it's all dried, I'm going to brush on "water effect" to give it that same sheen that melting snow would have.

The GW site had a article about snow bases up a while ago. Basically it showed the affect of different fluids (glues, paints, etc) mixed with snow to create different effects. If I remember correctly, plastic glue was recommended to adhere snow to give the thin, melty look. Either way, your models/bases look great!
