[PLOG] The Red Heads Raiding Party

Post by Ruby »

So a few days ago I got my Darkshards in the mail with with the codex and a lot of paint. I am using the paint theme from the paint recipe book. Thanks a bunch xFallenx for making the guide it was easy to under stand and looks great. I painted up one in a few hours right after I got home form school. I will paint the others as the days go by and i will post updates. So I am still new to painting and I will gladly take any ideas. Right now I am looking for ideas for the crossbows. Sorry about the lighting its my first time taking pics of my army and posting them. Next update I should have that fixed.

That's looking really good Ruby, and a wise choice painting the crossbow arms seperately!

Looking good. Definitely want to see the finished product.

I have to say that blonde hair on a Dark Elf is odd for me though.

Thanks for all the support. Dyvim tvar I agree it does look a bit odd with the blonde hair. I will keep the hair as it is for now, i like the pop it adds to the model but if i find an idea for the hair i like i will use that.

As i said I think I fixed the lighting problem. Painted up 4 more DarkShard bodes I think they came out great. Also if any one has any good ideas for the cross bow plz share, right now I don't have any ideas for the cross bows.

Interesting to see you painting them without the arms - I have to say, I think it's a great idea. Just assembling my first models to paint and I think I will borrow/steal that idea!

So I painted up the standard bearer. Its the first time I ever free painted something on a cloth like that but I think it came out ok. I don't know how you guys free from paint. But what I did was drew the big version of the scythe then did an outline of the flag. After that I drew a much smaller version into the outline of the flag to see if I could draw it. After I did that then I drew it in the actual model. And if you didn't know that Ruby's scythe.

You did a really great job with that freehand! My respect, I'm still gathering courage for something similar myself!
Also, great models and I look forward to seeing more.

Looking good thus far indeed. As for the blonde hair, paint your figures to match your vision :D It's not like all the black haired elves were evil at heart and joined the bad side during the sundering and all the blonde ones stayed behind in Malibu listening to the beach boys and surfing :D

That's silly! Playin with little statues, pretendin' they're fightin'! Why not just round up a bunch of real goblins and lettem' whack it out?

So an evil ginger army? Somehow I can almost hear Slanesh going: "Wow, that's evil, why didn't I think of that?"

The unit looks great -very cohesive and good work on the details.

My one piece of constructive criticism is that, while I like the idea of red haired dark elves, I don't think your execution was up to the level of the rest of the mini. It's the wrong shade of red. It looks like "punk-dyed" red, not natural red. I'd recommend looking at some redheads and seeing what their natural color is, and trying to emulate that. What you'll often find is more of a brownish-orange on some of them, and others are more of a lighter orange. I hope my description is clear.

Anyway, don't let that one critique take away from the fact that you have done very nice work overall. For a new painter, the work is very impressive.

So I decided to turn this thread into a POLG. In about 3-5 days I will be getting an another unite of darkshards and a bolt thrower. I will post those when they are done. Also maybe fingers crossed in a week or 2 I might be able to order 2 units of witch elves. And by then I should have the hair more natural looking. Thanks Direweasel for the suggestion.
