Dark Pegasus - What to do?

Post by lverasmussen »

Hi,

I want a couple of dark pegasi for my army and the Morathi model is just so damn ugly.

I was thinking to use the Dark Rider models as a base for conversion. Then perhaps add some Dark Eldar Scourge Wngs.

I found this guide on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cTxo_GX1Zo
and I think it is pretty good. He uses the Scourge wings as I would, but another horse miniature.

Do you guys have any recomendations? what have you done?

Well. I did the lazy conversion: cold one knights with fancypants helmet decorations + bretonnian pegasus knight box = 3 pegasus chars. Also possible to purchase the "dark pegasus" wing set via GW, but its metal and the sprue does not fit very well into the bret peg.
Name: Ladry (female)
Class: Mage (Pyromancer)
Equipment: Staff, longsword, dagger, 20 gold, insignia ring.
Skills: Power of Aqshy (2), defensive figthing
WS4, S2, T3, D4, I6.

Well, I don't think the bretonnian pegasus knight box are available anymore :/

I can only find Dragon Wings under "bits" on www.games-workshop.com.

I could also use the wings from 40k Tyranids Gargoyles - but I don't know if the wings are to small?

I like the Morathi fig, but I also have the older, larger pegasus model. You should be able to find both on eBay. You could also go with the GameZone mini. I like it too.

The Bretonnian Pegasus Knights are one of the few Bret items still available on the GW website. And they are really good for this purpose--Cold One Knight legs fit the saddle perfectly.

Has anyone used the Pegasus model from the Bretonnia line? Referring to the bare Pegasus with the mohawk on the army page.

I have only used the Gamezone one so far but I think that ones very fitting for a Dark Elf on a Peg especially because you can easily put Cold One Knights on top without much converting. I am going to build a Supreme Sorceress (or Morathi proxie) soon because I need her for a tourney. Will post the pics as soon as its done :)

Here is my attempt at a Pegasus using a horse from the new chariot and the Bret wings , not painted it up yet though . The area where the horse is gouged out will not be seen when the rider is added , had to remove this to get the Cold One Knights legs to fit .

Thanks gents , fairly simple to fit the wings on this conversion . Just a little bit of carving on the ends where they fit the body of the horse followed by a small amount of Miliput to smooth the join out .The wings were fitted before gluing the two halves of the horse together so I could double pin them to make sure of a strong bond .

Use vargheist wings! That's what I used for my dark pegasus. They are the perfect size and there are lots of different variations. For the horse I used Archaon's steed and they don't look undersized on that.

There's mine with the vargheist wings. I would have used Belakor's wings like Liquidust did but I couldn't justify cutting up two of the nicest models GW makes (Archaon and Belakor) in order to make my conversion.
