Actually you changed my life !
I always used black undercoat and then drybrushing with highlighting. Using washes is going to completely change my painting

Washes are the way to go - I use this on all my models ( I don't like the new GW shades though) I have started using ArmyPainter inks and will never look back, they are excellent.

I had huge problems when GW discontinued Badab Black - I could not replicate the effect I got using this wash , that's when I turned to Army Painters Inks - their Dark Tone was a very close match.

Could not recommend them more highly enough.

Mixing black in with nuln oil gives you a wonderful gritty wash, that's what I use.
