A kickstarter to make your own miniatures

Post by Newlight »

Hi to all,

I would like to present you a very nice project, on kickstarter, which is about making your own miniatures online and make them printed for about 5 euros each.

The beta website is there : http://www.createyourminis.com

and the kickstarter page here : https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/17 ... miniatures

Here is an exemple of what can be made for a witch elf in about 2-3 min :

I hope you'll enjoy!! :)

Thanks for this find. Looks interesting.

There's another one that's doing roughly the same thing, and also started with a Kickstarter drive. It's further along in the process, and the output looks AMAZING, but the downside is that it is much more expensive. $25 per mini at 28mm scale.

I wouldn't pay that much for a mini personally, but I know there are those who would, and if you have an all-time favorite D&D character that nobody makes a mini that's good enough for you, I suppose I could see it as a splurge.

Another neat thing about 3D printing is that it offers some poses that can't be done the old mold way. The chain on a flail, for instance, is actually a working chain that you can move each link on. You also don't have to deal with mold lines presumably.

Anyway, it's called Heroforge:

Even if you never buy a mini, it's really fun (for me at least) to play around with the creator software and customize your own guys. Hopefully over time they'll be able to improve the process and cut some costs. Because right now it's just not an option for me.

Thanks you very much for your link. It is true that it is faster for the processing, you see the result faster and in a better way, and the detail level is better. But the price is much higher and also there are less choice. Create your minis is just a beta version with few options compared to what they should make.
But thank you, in case create yur minis doesn't manage to complete goal in the kickstarter, I may buy one or two models (arghhhhhh) I really want.

I wouldn't pay that much for rank and file, but depending on the quality I will look at it for lord choices. It is a great idea and I think we will see a lot more of this short of thing in the future.

I can see that fix a shortage of character models... Great. Thanks!

Interesting concept. Don't see myself buying anything, any time soon, but I may have a play with the software to see what is possible to create.

Its the sort of thing I probably would use, but the website is really clunky and not that intuitive so far?

I really like some of the heroforge poses, but after some playing with it I think there just aren't enough possibilities for hairstyles and clothing. But it's definitely fun, so... :)
I might check out this new kickstarter as well, it looks interesting enough.

I will have to wait until I get home to try the model builder out, doesn't seem to like my android tablet, neither built in browser nor chrome
I was looking forward to making a model after a swim at the beach, to hot to do much else!

Now that is not what you want to hear when you have just slogged through cold rain to get in to work.

But yes I had the same issue on my tablet yesterday when I tried to build a model.

What do you mean by that? Could you be more precise please? :)

Soon, monday or thursday will be an interesting update of their website and kickstarter page.
