Removing primer from plastic minis.
Hey, been lurking for around 2 months now, since I just got back to Warhammer after around a 10 year break. Long live the Dark Elves and Malekith/Malerion!
First thing I did was ofc to find my old minis, almost all of them metal and strip them, which was easy since they are metal, and prime them in the summer sun - havn't gotten to painting them yet.
Since I also ordered some of the new minis I put them together and primed today, and the result was less than good. I live in Denmark so weather changes a lot as does humidity, which may have been the cause for this change, since I did it the same way as the other 2 times. (Found out that it was because I was holding the can too far away from the minis).
Anyway now they are all grainy and I was wondering which method of stripping them of this black primer you would suggest? I have googled some, and hear a lot of people suggest using Simple Green, Super Clean Degreaser or Brake Fluid, and was wondering if you guys had any experience you would like to share so I don't frig it up , and suggestions on which product to use.
Thanks in advance

Re: Removing primer from plastic minis.
I tried simple green for plastic and it didn't do jack. Castrol super clean worked much better for me but I've been told it is nasty stuff (vapor and skin contact perspective) so I guess be careful. Curious to hear what others use.

Welcome to the forum Ritslev - interesting question.
I have not done much stripping of plastic mini's (apart from hot soapy water)
I use nail polish remover on my metal ones and it works a treat.

It works on plastic but always do a test first, **DO NOT USE ON FINECAST** it will melt.
Make sure you use an acetone free one as below for plastic

Do you use Dettol on plastic miniatures or just metal?

For real? Dettol? I have never tried removing paint because I never found the (exotic sounding) products that people mentioned. But I have some Dettol at home. This begs for a trial... Will post updates!

I had never thought of using Dettol. Looking forward to some updates.

That link doesn't work for me. I'm honestly surprised that Dettol works as well, but if it does then great.

Here's the fixed link:
Dakka Dakka How to strip your models
I remember seeing that list.. or at least most of the options listed there. But few of those products are available in Belgium or go by the same name. And apparantly, the results are very brand/product dependent.
So seeing a familiar name for once is nice!

Great with all the responses
I will try using some isopropyl alcohol first and see how the result is, I read quite a few places that it is the isopropyl alcohol in Dettol that does the job, but if it dosn't work I will try finding some Dettol even tho the price is x2/x3 as expensive as just buying isopropyl alcohol here in Denmark.
