Druchii Dungeon Tiles
So with the end of year holidays approaching at a rapid rate I thought it would be good fun to get back into our home made version of HeroQuest. In doing so I came up with the idea of designing some new dungeon tiles for our adventurers to explore. I wanted to create a Dark Elf themed dungeon tile set - so with out further delay I will post some of my progress here and share it with the community. Perhaps you can print them out and have a game yourself
I have ripped a large percentage of the images used from Google Image Search and manipulated them in Photoshop further enhancing them to create the tiles. I don't claim any copyright to the images and distribute them freely to all those who wish to use them at no cost.
I have designed the tiles so that they can easily be printed on 6x4 inch or 8x6 inch photo paper. Save the files to a thumb drive and take them down to your local photo developer and get some matt prints. Mine down the road charges 15c for each 6x4 print (a bargin) and excellent quality. The 8x6 are slightly more expensive.
The best way I have found to use these is to get them printed by a developer on matt photo paper and then mount them on 5mm thick black foam core. I will post a tutorial later on how to do this but to begin with I will post some of the tiles for you to look at.
First up is some Common Room tiles - Walkways

An Event Room Tile - The Crypt of Seduction.
This room is the burial chamber for one of the great Hag Queens of Naggaroth. Do not be fooled by her long slumber for even in death she calls to those willing to do her bidding.

Event Room Tile - Throne of the Witch King
Hidden in these hallowed halls resides the lair of the Witch King. Embellished with solid gold runes his throne room hosts the wealth of Naggaroth ready to do his will.
I just love the artwork illustrations that came from Warhammer Online - there are some truly amazing artists out there that developed the concept art for the game. They have so much detail and atmosphere to them it great to be able to make use of them further in this way.

Event Tile - The Rune of Khaine
Power emanates from this room and the thrill of bloodlust caresses your body turning your every thought to rage!
I always loved the green marble look painted on the COB avatar of khaine , nice to carry that colour texture into these tiles.

I think they look neat. Nice work!

This room appears to be a training room of sorts. Beastmasters release the beasts into the courtyard and practice their trade.

Re: Druchii Dungeon Tiles
TUTORIAL FOR MAKING THE DUNGEON TILES
Step 1: Download the images from this page to your computer and save them on a thumb drive.
Step 2: Take the images to your local photo developing centre and get them printed on to matt photo paper. There are two sizes , 6x4 and 8x6. The names of the files tell you what size to print them.
Step 3: Get together the materials you will need. These include...
- A good cutting board
- Metal Ruler
- Sharp Scalped or blade (this needs to be very sharp, would also recommend some extra blades)
- Your Photo prints
- Can of Matt Spray (to seal the photos with)
- Can of Spray Adhesive
- Black Marker
- 5mm Black Foam Core board (I get these in A2 size sheets)
Most of these items can be found at all good craft / art supply shops
Apart from the initial outlay you should have most of these things as your general hobby tools. To make a reasonable number of tiles is quite cheap.
Step 4: Lay the photos out on some newspaper and spray the back of them with the adhesive spray. Be careful this stuff is sticky make sure you have plenty of covering down.
Step 4: Place the photos on to the Foam Core board and pat them down by placing another piece of paper over the top of the photo to prevent finger prints on the images.
Step 5: Next seal the photos by spraying them with the matt spray. Again make sure you have plenty of covering down.
Step 6: Using your sharp blade cut the mounted photos on the board out. I use long smooth strokes with the blade (the last thing you want to do is use it like a saw) this helps you to get a nice smooth edge on the foam.
Note: If the foam core is going ragged your blade is not sharp enough. See the example below, the top view is what it should look like, not the bottom view.
Step 7: Next take a black marker and colour around all the white edges of the photos. This makes them look better in my opinion. You can see the difference in the image below.
Step 8: Enjoy! You can make all kinds of different layout variations.
I was thinking of putting in an additional step here by painting the sides of the foam core in a black acrylic paint just to give it that extra special finish.

Looks great, do you use the official rules, or is it all home made?

We have our own home made ruleset - I am also in the process of designing our own version of the game to play without a DM. Looking at some way where you draw tile cards and then place them randomly at the end of your turn and populate them with monsters etc with the person next to you controlling the enemy characters.
I have had in mind to build by own board game from the game up for some time now - this is a bit of a test run for it.

A couple more Event Tiles
- Ice Ledge
- Snow Courtyard
I want to get some more frozen tiles, might do a whole set of them at a later date.
If anyone has some good ideas for a specific type of tile let me know and I will have a go at making it.
