How to Paint Minies to look like Marble

Post by Saintofm »

What it sounds on the tin. How to make a mini, in my case a pewter and either a light weight plastic or resin mini, to look like the kind of marble used on your counter top.

I've seen tutorials online, you should be able to hunt one down reasonably easily.

The gist of it is, once you get your clean basecoat down (and it doesn't have to be white, marble comes in many colors), you add a little of the 'marbling' color to the base color and paint mid-thickness bands across the mini in random patters. Then you add a little more marbling color, switch to a thinner brush, and darken parts of the bands. Wash, rinse, repeat until you're using pure marbling color and the thinnest brush you have for tiny spots and streaks.

I used a marble effect on a Space Marine Chaplain that turned out pretty good. Basically I painted the haft Dark Angels/Caliban Green and then stippled it with a midtone green. I cant remember the exact green but it turned out well enough. For the stippling brush I used a brush that was about to be retired from duty as a dry brush, so it had a decent amount of wear on it to add in varying pattern.
