Good to hear duckman! One model at a time ;)

So about that midway army report. What do you say guys? A classic wideshot of what has been finished this year? :)

I also suggest everyone throwing in some comments to every army shown, perhaps something you specifically like. I am sure it will be fuel for the coming months :)

Yep sounds good - I'm sure i can rustle up an army shot so far!

I am failing this month to get any painting done - hopefully will double my efforts next months and then start looking at AOP for the end of the year.

Nice work - they look great all together on the table.

Are you going to make a board for them? Some terrain to compliment the army perhaps?

My half year shot. These models were finished between New Year and now. As you can tell I began collecting a new army this year :) Hence the lone dwarf and elven chariot.

Sorry about the blurry pic. Had little time.

They look great. Nice looking color scheme you have going there.

I have failed this month to get any painting done :(

I will try and get an army pic up soon for you all to have a look at.

Finished the Cold Ones today, outside of a few touchups and some bits and flair on the champion's mount! Still working on the knights. Took me a looong time but I learned quite a bit and I'm pretty happy with them, though they are lacking a bit of polish. I would love to learn more about how to get better color transitions such as on the lines in the middle of some of their foreheads.

Ooh nice cold ones! They look slick and I think the colour scheme works quite well on the model!

Yes I agree - any plans for the base?

Thanks! I haven't done any basing yet; I want to find a cheap method to use across my army. I'm not sure the typical green base+grass flock will work best as I use a lot of The Fang (dark-ish) blue and brighter reds which might clash. Maybe some gray sand thing? Any advice?
I was thinking of sprucing up the base with some heads/limbs and other bits--enemies torn asunder and trampled underfoot by the mighty beasts.

Friends and I are particularly fond of making a mix with tiny rocks/sand with slightly larger rocks. Just mix both into the same can or bag and you have yourself a rocky field. An easy drybrush from dark to lighter tones is a classic. You can add tufts of grass and those limbs after where suited best.

Choose any colour of rocky ground you prefer.

Just sand/rocks from wherever? Doesn't the sand stick to your paintbrush when you try to paint over it? What glue do you use for the base?
Sorry for all the questions; the internet abounds with different guides/tutorials but seems to miss some of these easy questions and I'd rather have the answers from experienced Druchii generals :D

If I'm using sand for the base I use the following process.

1. Paint areas on the base where you want the sand with PVA glue
2. Sprinkle base with sand or dip it in sand box to cover the PVA areas
3. Blow off excess sand and allow glue to dry
4. Mix up PVA and water (very diluted mix) then reapply with paint brush over the top (again let dry)
5. base paint it black

I do all my models this way and have had the best results with out the sand coming off the base when it comes time to drybrush it.

Ah, cultofkhaine beat me to it.

Yep! Sand and stones from anywhere, though a hobby store would have equal size stones readily available (I bought some in a train model store). And as for the sand sticking to your brush. It won't! - Since you glued it on the base, like cultofkhaine described, and let it dry.

Typically my point 4 and 5 are compiled into: Spraycoat it. But that is due to me often painting base and miniature seperately.

Hope things cleared up and enjoy basing! Below are a couple of sanded bases with my stone&sand mix to the right.

Beach sand works great for me - it's free and normally a consistent size.

So do we have some brave pledges for this month of August? :)

I will paint up a Thicket Shepherd BSB. One of those 40mm base tree guys from our woody cousins.

My pledge is to just get some paint on a model - it has been way to long! :(

I will also get a photo of the army I have been working on.

Couple questions; is this for WHFB, or T9A? And what's a Thicket Shepherd; a Treeman or Treekin BSB?
Regards,

NK.

This is for The Ninth Age! It is a Treekin character, who currently has the option of becoming a BSB.

Thicket Beasts = Treekin
Thicket Shepherd = Treekin Character
