Barbarian Movies from 1980s

Post by Dekhalan »

I was wondering if anybody here collects/watches old barbarian movies from the 1980s ? A bit obscure, I know, but I just wanted to see if I could find anymore enthusaists and learn about more movies if possible :D

I have -
Conan : The Barbarian
Conan : The Destroyer
Deathstalker
Barbarian Queen
Beastmaster
The Warrior and the Sorceress
The Sword and the Sorcerer

Thanks for listening !
...And so it came to pass that the foul elf known as DEKHALAN CHILLWIND invaded our fair shores. This fiend began a campaign of killings, rapings, lootings, enslavings and burnings, sparing neither age nor sex...

Your listing some real classics there. Yeah I've seen them all, I don't own any but would watch them if they were on TV and might rent one now and then. They're great fun, bad acting, big heros doing the impossible. Good stuff.
Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore --
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking "Nevermore."

There was a really silly one called The Barbarians, I suppose (with twin brothers).

Although Krull was a fantastic movie, definately one of my favorites, it's not a barbarian movie as such like the others. Red Sonja I don't know.

Wasn't Brigitte Nielson the star of Red Sonja?

Gold star for you !

She was, alongside Arnie, playing a guy like Conan but not :D

What about that one with the mean and moody blonde haired actor, can't remember his name but he was tha baddy in the Hitcher, where he escorts some bird(feathered kind) which is actually a woman.

Gonna really bug me now, his name is on the tip of my tongue err... his name is similar to the guy who leads the cursed company - Richter Kruegar.

God, feel really stupid now

That's gonna bug me the rest of the day now. Wonder if there is a video store on my way home

Oh I know what you mean, that took a little puzzling...

You mean Rutger Hauer in Ladyhawke ? :D

Yes, an enjoyable movie, don't own it though.

This thread is really freaking me out.

Just as I was opening it earlier I was thinking "Red Sonja" only to find Linda had already posted it.

Then just now I was opening it again to say Rutger and Ladyhawke, only to see you had just done it.

You just gotta love the 80's, oh man, I spent all my teens in that decade. The movies, the music and what about Pacman and Space invaders. Some times I wish I were back then!

I remember when our local pub got their first space invader machine, heaven! No need to go home for entertainment.

Had it all in one place - beer, crisps, space invaders, beer.......

He also was the main android (weren't they called like this) in Bladerunner, besides Sean Young, and well Harrison Ford (at least I think he was meant to be one as well) ;).

He was a replicant, yeah...His improvised speech at the end is REALLY famous... Harrison Ford isn't a replicant though, he's a bladerunner, a special police guy who's job is to hunt replicants down and 'retire' them...

Replicants, that's the word... :)

Well, I really think, Harrison Ford was meant to be one of them, too.

It doesn't get across in the movie, tho.

no he was never meant to be a replicant. the book that the movie is LOOSLY based on makes it clear. (btw the book is DO androids dream of electric sheep (the movie was supposed to be called that at first too, but the movie company didn't think it was catchy enough)).

That is a strange movie, I have He-Man's movie on VHS...that is sort of a barbarian movie, I suppose.

Has anyone seen the 'Ator' movies or 'Sorceress' ? If so, are they any good ?

I just remembered reading a comic about a barbarian. His name was/is Groo and he does absolutely everything wrong and still he saves the day. Has any of you come across him? I know this hasn't the least thing to do with movies, but we are talking barbarians, right!
