Dark Elf Sorc on cold one

Post by Drahazar »

For those that have gottent the spearhead how many pieces dose she come in. I just got the spearhead yesterday adn she doe not seem to fit on it right and I am wondering if I might be missing a piece. I have the cold one her upper torso the left side of the cold one and her staff. Is that it for her or is there a pice missing from between her torso and where she conects to the cold one. Or is that I have to do a lot of binding and moveing of stuff to get her on there.

She is in four pieces. 2 Cold One pieces, the torso, and the staff arm. I havent tried to put mine together yet, because who really mounts a sorceress on a cold one?

Nothing like losing a round of spellcasting if you roll over her leadership. I am going to pick up another Dark Rider blister and put her on a Dark Steed, then buy another one and put it on a Dragon.

Exactly :( Was hoping to put her on my Dark Pegasus, but alas.

Still I cut away a bit of her torso, and mounted her on a Dark Steed using some Wild Rider legs.

Overall it's not too noticeable but I'd have loved to actually have some proper legs to use for once!

The guy at the gw store tried to convince me that she would be useful, behind a hill and with the focus familiar. Obviously he had stupidity too and failed his check...

Yeah, Sorcs either go in units or on something fast (steed, pegasus, dragon) so Ima convert her into a BSB for my CoKs. I need a Hydra Banner carrier anyway...

You might be able to make her into a death hag by mounting her body on a spare set of legs, and turn her cold one into a dread knight or an extra noble. It would definately be a shame to let such a good looking model sit around and collect dust, but i can't see the use of having a sorceress on cold one either.

Indeed. In the latest White Dwarf, they were talking about how awesome a Sorceress on a Cold One is, giving a 5+ save, mobility, and immunity to Fear (also for a unit she joins). They fail to mention that on a failed stupidity test, she would fail to cast spells for the round and also lose the mobility, possibly leaving her in a deadly situation.

So for fewer points, you get a far more reliable, faster Dark Steed...that won't cause you to be unable to cast.

Why won't they just give us a sorceress on a steed model? Or model the Cold One version so the legs aren't attached to the cold one? When I saw that the Spearhead would have a Sorc on a Cold One, I had hoped that there was a minor rule change on the Stupidity and rider casting rule, but I was silly to think that.

It amazes me what GW is thinking some times. Ofcourse, they will never answer for stupid things they do: like not keeping the Sorceress's legs and Cold One seperate.

They won't make a new dark steed model and that is why they won't make a sorceress on dark steed model. Its simply uneconomical...

I never understood why the bothered making a Sorc on a Cold One - nobody was ever going to use one in any seriousness!

My Sorc on a Dark Steed is the Lahmia Vampire model.

That's a very unfortunate design choice by GW. I suppose we are to assume it was also uneconomical to make her separate from the dang lizard? Oh well, I didn't particularly want one anyway. I actually will use a Sorc on Cold One, in a unit of COK. Their job is not a combat oriented job, they're going to just roll with my Sorc and look dangerous, and move ahead when the dice favour them. A Dreadlord goes with them, and anyone foolish enough to take the unit on will suffer for it. Or so I hope. She'll be an L2 scroll caddy, I'll have another Horseress for doing the offensive magic. A Scouting Noble to go ahead with Great Shades to clear a nice bloody swathe for her and her riders... obviously no Dagger for me, I'm not cutting DR or COK for power dice. There's a notion for your medcav too, a better Horseress bodygaurd, maybe.

You could still attach her body to the legs of a Brettonian
Pegasus Knight, the little bit of armour might just make
her look a bit meaner.

Mine's the same way, the torso has a big gap to connect to the Cold One. I'm probably just gonna sand down the metal pieces for a better fit, then fill the area with putty.

Still, when I got this, I was like CRAP, I was gonna mount her on a Dark Pegasus. I guess I still can, but it'll be too much a hassle....part of her beauty were those flowing robes sculpted into the metal Cold One, which DOES look awesome. I just wish it looked awesome separately from the Sorceress.

They could have made a Sorceress model that could mount up on the generic Dark Steed, much as the old Sorceress and Cold One figure was a Sorceress mounted on a generic Cold One. Or they could have kept the legs seperate from the mount to at least make it slightly easier to modify her for use on a different mount. Making the legs an integral part of the Cold One model served no real purpose.

It seems to be a little bit of a problematic scuplt with fitment issues in addition to being next to worthless in game play. It makes one wonder if the folks in the model dept. had enough contact with the folks in games development and if so what explanation is there for this model that no one wants to field as marketed?

I think I will be purchasing a box of Wood Elf Glade Riders for conversions in the near future.

From what I hear, the legs on those are an decent substitute.

Well well... The same old ''Sorc on CO'' subject. That new model have become something of an icon... A slightly humorous one at that.
I suspect the guy who sculpted this model was sitting on a Cold One at the time and failed his Ld roll.
Daddy! I sorta kinda had an accident... I was playing with my slave and it sorta... Umm... It's arm fell off!

I was thinking the same thing myself. I hadn't considered the BSB option until someone above suggested it.
