Malus was afraid no doubt of that, but all in all he was of good sprits. Having landed a hit he no knew he could wound and slay his enemie. Suddently a noise surprised him, not the noise it self, the sound of mettal over stone, an ally (the beats did not use metal) coming close, but the emotions the sound evoce in him; he never would have thought that the he would welcome the sound of the noisy Sinfulblade, he supposed it was him, noone else was so careless with the sounds he made, coming in his direction.
He heard sinful being attact and concluded that there was an secound enemy. So what now?, he thought. If we both fight our seperate battels we might as well have fought allone. He'd try the only thing taht appeared sensib;e to him: cooperate with his unwanted ally.
Let's fight together, better chances of slaying those beasts. If we fight back to back they can't slip around us.
Malus, if sinful accepts, will fight back to back with him, trieng to find the weakness he suspected in the beast's, teamwork.

OOC: Gah, didn‘t think one should have actually guessed, either way I thought they were ghouls of some kind, so carry on then. Oh it‘s quite alright, in my previous groups the names pretty much became synonymous.

Slowly advancing into the ever more thickening darkness Sinfulblade grinned arrogantly as he heard the sound of the tip of his blade against stone resonate through the caverns. With the sounds of fighting coming closer to teal pyro got oven more cocky and started whistling a catchy tune, he remembered not where he had learned. Slowly the bastard sword swished from the side to side as the trainee heard some sort of ruffling noise going straight towards him.

“You’re mine”

Sinful hissed with a grin as he got ready to intercept his assailant, both of his hands gripping hard on the handles of his swords as the elf mentally counted the steps he thought that separated him from his attacker. Once the unseen predator of the dark was in sword’s length of Sinful he struck a powerful blow yet to his undying surprise he only managed to slay air as the moleman ducked away from the strike and in one fluid motion struck the back of Sinful’s neck.
Hissing angrily the teal elf stumbled forwards feeling pain touch him and quickly spun around, his blade missing the intended target yet again, but his elbow going straight for the „soft underbelly” of the mutant. Rewarded with shriek of pain from his opponent and fueled with hate resonating from the fact that he was wounded Sinfulblade felt himself sink into uncontrollable frenzy. Deeper and deeper he went as split seconds passed and he regained his footing, only vaguely knowing where his opposition was Sinful howled fiercely as he felt his body no longer responsive to the signals of his mind. Vision beginning to cloud and the noise of whispers caressing his ears the teal trainee could not control it any longer.

The price to pay for associating with the Murder god is the acceptance of becoming powerless against your own fury in times of battle. With everything around him becoming twisted and alien, be it the darkness around him or the sounds his keen eyes picked up Sinfulblade charged to where his opponent staggered back. Body filled to the brim with adrenaline and eyes with hate, Sinful danced with darkness, his blades moving eloquently in the dark as he advanced forwards, no matter the darkness, no matter the opposition. Murder was his only calling now, it may be blind, but in darkness vision was obsolete from the get go.

Sinful will be unable to control his fury and he will charge into the general direction to where his assailant had staggered back. Blows will be swift and powerful yet the berserk rage will obviously limit his ability to make the blows accurate even more so than the darkness around him. Not the best course of action, but a khainate will always be a khainate

She knew nothing of the Autarii newcomer, but seeing Ghost fall shook the young noblewoman a little because of the speed of the attack. But he'd been the first to kill one and show that they could die, and in Khaine's name die they would! So she focussed her fear and felt it turn into cold rage. How dare these mutant, parasitical scum shed Druchii blood! She growled a low warcry of defiance and stepped to the side just far enough to allow Khalea to choose her place and circle round - a good strategem. At least he fell fighting and took one of them with him, she thought. She could spare no more than this brief half-second for the dead Shade - she was fighting for her life. Could have been worse ... could have been me, her grim subconscious mind noted.

With her mind firmly on achieving the effective and swift death of the mole-beast-man, Syjahel will guard Khalea's side and look to bash her shield into its face as soon as its attention is turned. Then she will try to get it while it's stunned, using her sword on any exposed body or head areas.

Failing this is Plan B: watch for openings, keep out of range of the claws, and slash at any bits that come her way. She'd prefer the disciplined approach of the first but you don't always get the choice in combat.

She will try to keep the lamp-slave from dying too - and there are sounds of combat from behind that she'll just have to hope the remaining two Shades can handle for now ...

OOC: Aye, the lamp-slave will probably stay with the majority, that makes sense ... we're split 2 - 2 though so she hopes he'll stay with the one trying to keep him alive XD

In the darkness Malus revelled in his small victory, wounding the creature, but his calls for teamwork fell on deaf ears. Blood had been drawn, sacred blood, and the Khainite in Sinful answered its call. With a roar he scythed his blades through the darkness, there was little precision in this and less art, but in his fury the Khainite turned the air before him into a whistling web of steel. Adrenaline surged through his body as his short sword hit home, slicing through flesh and scraping off bone. A light wound in all likelihood, but not an insignificant one. The thing in the dark screeched in surprise and pain and the slap of its feet was audible as the beast scrambled away.

Malus kept his head, but also kept still; perhaps surprised by his companions sudden change. However, he was in combat and could not stand for long. Claws whistled through the air and the shade just managed to turn them with his sword, inches from his chest. Striking out himself Malus punched into soft flesh eliciting new cries from his mysterious opponent.

In this shadowy underworld fresh footsteps could be heard.

In the light Khalea mourned momentarily the death of Ghost, but sought to avenge him, and of course keep herself alive. Drawing her blade the shade darted around the hideous mole thing.

The beast seemed oblivious to all around it, driven into a wild madness by the light it hammered again and again at Sajahel's shield. Deep groves were gauged in the wood and it was all the mercenary could do to fend the creature off. This was where teamwork could begin to show its benefits.

The mole man seemed oblivious to Khalea, all to the good. Taking her sword in two hand the shade stepped forward and in one clean stroke punched through the creature’s kidneys. As it screeched a second blow to the back punctured a lung; fending off thrashing claws Sajahel brought her own blade down onto the beast's head, silencing its struggles.

Weary but victorious the two females could take a moment to catch their breath before deciding what to do next, and the petrified slave could breathe a sigh of great relief while attempting to hide a stain on his previously pristine loin cloth. Not so the remaining males fighting shadows in the darkness.

Sajahel and Khalea are now alone with the slave, the wounded mole man having made good its escape though leaving a trail of blood on the floor. Both Malus and Sinful are still in combat in the dark.

OOC: I am glad to see quick posting, and have a merry Christmas.

With a look to Khalea Syjahel did not waste much time in thinking on what had occurred, but instead ackowledged her companion's success with a simple nod as from one professional to another. "Swift work." The young highborn's face was grim but she determined that the Shade woman was largely unhurt, as she was herself, and loud warcries were still coming from the darkness behind them. Turning to the lamp slave she was aware of the results of his less than steely nerves, but what could one expect from a slave? At least he hadn't panicked and run. To him she said, "Stray and they will find you. Keep with us, and you will stay alive. So long as you don't drop the light." Not the softest of motivational speeches, but all scared slaves really understood were basic things - well, and the lash.

The sometime Lord's 'son' thought back to the surly greeting and in one case, lewd expressions of the male Autarii, and for a brief moment it was tempting to leave them to their self-sought Fate. But really this was no time for wasteful spite and petty revenge. If the two Shades fell to the beasts, there would be foes behind her as well as the wounded one somewhere in front. In Syjahel's estimation, the mole-men fled when hurt and though easily maddened by the light, they could be defeated or driven off by concerted effort. In an environment as massive as the tunnels, she could see no benefit from their small party trying to kill them all and clear the complex out - that would require a much larger force. Perhaps one her intel would equip and direct ...

This wasn't the time for daydreaming of glory either. Stooping to take Ghost's weapons - it went against type to leave them where an enemy might use them - Syjahel turned to Khalea,

"Let's get back to the other two, they sound as though reinforcements are needed. I guess Sultra chose five of us for the odds, at any rate ..."Odds now lengthened by one, she added silently, hoping they wouldn't all perish in this accursed darkness. She much preferred the clean air of the world above. But blood was a sacrament of Khaine, and she was keen to spill more in his honour.

Provided Khalea agrees, Syjahel will head quickly to aid the two men, ideally keeping a rearguard with her shield up until they get close enough for all the combatants to be within the light. Once in the fight a rearguard might still be needed, but she figures that by then she will be preoccupied from the front. If she makes it there, she will try to make attacks from one side, trying to take advantage of any weak points or distractions as they prevent hemselves.

If Khalea has other plans, Syjahel will consider them on their merits - the Autarii has experience she hasn't; to ignore it would be stupid.

... and she's still trying to keep the slave alive.

OOC: It might be sound common sense to arm the slave, but it hasn't occurred to Syjahel. One just doesn't ... ;)

Though still in his bloody fight Malus noticed that the noise at the other side had ended. That ment either his companions had succeded, died or fleed or a bit of it all. Anyway that was not his concern now. He was complitly cought in the dance of his fight with the monster in front of him.
He should have known not to rely on a khainate! In his fenzy he was quite likly to hurt Malus as well, so he tried tyo keep his distant from this source of uncertanty. Having lost the elemnt of surprise he felt the combat turning around to his side. He had hit his enemie 2 times so far. He would not make the mistake and underestimate his enemie but he felt that he aws on the winning side.
Complitly in his fight he did not notice any footsteps...
Malus led his instinks leed him in this fight. In the darkness and with lightning fast attacs, his mind was just to slow. His mind blended out anything not related to his fight (so he keeps still watch on the khainate. He sill waited for a good chance at which he could throw the dagger at either of the moleman.

Mouth formed into a wicked grin, eyes narrowed and glazed with madness and fury, muscles pumping with adrenaline and body surging with grim determination. Sinfulblade had become an animalistic specter of Khaine, slashing asunder darkness and his own sanity in the blink of an eye as he changed, shifted and charged at his unseen foe. The tall trainee moved forward swiftly, his blades becoming uncontrollable whirlwinds, elegant he was not, but his fury made up eloquence in sheer brutality.

At first the swings and slashes seemed to cut through air alone, the moleman yet not close enough, but the gap shortened in heartbeats and soon the blades were swishing but mere millimeters from the mutant and it was just a matter of time before the crazed elf would hit home.

Finally the short sword found its mark and cut a gushing wound into the soft unprotected skin scraping of small blisters of bone in the process. The shriek that came from the beastman only fueled Sinful’s frenzy as he roared into the dark, directly into the direction he heard his opponent scramble to.

“Face me, vermin!”

The teal pyro hissed in ecstatic thrill as he tilted his head back and roared once more into the heavens above as if thanking his patron god for granting him strength in battle and guiding the steel extensions of his arms to glory or defeat, it mattered not, not anymore at least.

Breathing heavily and devoid of fear or sanity Sinful marched forwards, his blades unrestless as ever before as he pursued his wounded assailant, his eyes glazed as before and body pressured towards the kill. His weapons had to taste blood, his essence called for death to be displayed, the urge to stand triumphant over the cooling corpse of the foul creature that dared to draw his blood too great, the pressure unbearable.

After the first successful hit Sinfulblade will march towards where his opponent scrambled to, continuing the assault, although slightly more controlled, moving a tad slower, his hits a hint more coherent yet still completely dipped into the uncontrollable frenzy that he bathed in

P.S. And a small side note, Sinfulblade is a trainee, not a shade. I noticed him being referred to as as the later a few times. Not a big deal, yet worth a note.

Yes I know, sorry about that. I only notised a short while ago.

Khalea paused as the combat ended, the last opponent falling to her companions blade after Khalea managed to strike it twice. Khalea let a small smile pass across her lips as the enemy fell, eliminating the current threat. However, the temporary victory did not make her any less aware of their current predicament.

Khalea retrieved her fallen crossbow from where she had discarded it, replaceing the bolts she had expended in the fight. She walked over to the other two, casually dismissing the slaves obvious sign of fear as she focused on the task at hand. She also took what she could from Ghost's body, knowing that they might not come back this way.

"Either we go back and help them or we push ahead and keep that last one from bringing bak friends" Khalea, thinking for a second before adding on "We should probably help the others, seeing as the two of us could be easily swarmed by the beasts. "

Khalea will follow Syjahel's lead, taking what she can from Ghosts corpse then heading back to help the other two Druchii.

In the darkness Sinfulblade's heart sang as he heard the wet crunch of blade on bone and the terrified squeaks of the thing he was fighting. Buried beneath layers of psychosis and frenzy he was in no mood for subtlety, but then perhaps subtly was not required. Moving forward to where he thought the beast had stumbled too he continued to scythe through the air...and hit nothing.

Growing more enraged by this denial he pressed onwards, his foe invisible in the dark. Nothing, he took a few more steps. With a resounding clang his long bastard sword crashed into the solid rock of the wall, numbing pain raced down his arm though at least the sound Naggarothi steel did not shatter.

Meanwhile Malus sought to keep his distance from the screaming and the howling, knowing too well that to a Khainite lost in a blood haze friend was nearly as good as foe even in the daylight. In the darkness Sinful would likely gut his own sister and barely notice. The shade was so focused on his fight that he may as well have fought within a bubble in the void; dark talons struck out towards him, heralded only by the protesting shriek of sundered air. Malus struck out with his own blade, hitting nothing but darkness, the claw buried its self in stone by his head. Both were withdrawn, talons scythed forward again, and Malus ducked under a strike that should have crushed his skull. The shade stabbed forward and smiled as he felt his blade graze slippery skin, taking a step forward he was about to stab forward again as the smile was wiped of his face. Talons raked down his left thigh and only by flinching away could Malus insure that he could still stand, let alone fight.

In their blind rage and focus neither heard the pounding of footsteps as reinforcements came in from both sides, light bobbed down the corridor as the terrified slave was forced to run, Khalea in front of him, Sajahel bringing up the rear, Sajahel with a brand new repeater hand bow looted from Ghosts corpse along with six new daggers and a short sword hanging from her belt; while Kahlea sported an assortment of knickknacks including thieves tools, wrist blades she had yet to affix, Legaran's token, a spare shade cloak and perhaps most welcome of all 65.5 gold coins.

Leaving Ghost's now stripped corpse for the vermin of the tunnels the females swiftly travelled the distance through the shafts to cast first light on the battle. The witch lamp illuminated the scene just in time for the two she elves to see Sinful crash into the wall while a wounded mole thing cowered to the right of him, eyes glazing over as bright light hit its atrophied eyes.

They also saw blood spurt out of a light wound on Malus' leg and the bloodied creature who had caused it, and the frantic manic gleam in the watery eyes of two more mole things creeping forward from the other direction, this fight was far from over.

[/u] Sajahel, you said you wanted to take Ghosts weapons and so you have them, Mythic you got everything else. Legaran's token was an item from a previous RPG and doesn't do anything in this one, keep it if you like but its worthless.

Everyone is in the light now, Malus has a light wound on his leg and Sinful has crashed into a wall (I did say the tunnels were narrow though to accommodate the fighting that has actually taken place let’s say they are at this point wide enough for four abreast, sorry to be inconsistent but well, not all tunnels are the same size. Two fresh mole men have arrived opposite to Kahlea and Sajahel.

OOC: Sorry about the Shade thing, I looked at the equipment and thought 'he must be a Shade, he's got a Shade cloak' ... will try to work it in. I guess one could say it makes him look like a Shade ...

While we're on the subject of little things though my character's name is actually Syjahel, not Sajahel :)

Also, how many bolts did she get for the repeater? I don't want to use ammo I don't have.

Syjahel secured the spare weapons and turned on her heel. The young highborn was glad that the Shade girl had the same idea about tactics for the situation. She didn't look forward to more of the tunnel fighting, except for the bloodshed; the desire for that was rising, prickling the backs of her hands and the nape of her neck. Her breath was no longer tense, but measured, and as she took the last few strides of the short distance back to the rest she could feel the training she'd had assert itself. They had a stratagem, and an enemy - all that remained was to put them together.

The sight of Sinfulblade hitting the floor was counterbalanced by the cowering moleman at his side, blinded by the light from the lantern. The tall teal Elf was a howling fury, his rage and bloodlust plain to all. In all her brothers' tales of the Autarii she'd never heard of one giving himself up to the Rage of Khaine. Perhaps there was more to this ... the thoughts were swept aside as she took in the rest of the battle at a glance. Later. Malus was down and wounded, the sharp-sweet scent of Druchii blood in the air over the stink of the mole-things and the rotten dirt of the tunnel complex.

With the new repeater crossbow in her hand, it was a reflex to sight up and take a shot at her new attacker. She'd handled the crossbow before - one of her brothers was a fearsome deadeye shot with the things, and it had amused him to try to teach his little sister - but it had been a while since those lessons and she muttered a brief prayer to Khaine that she wouldn't waste the opportunity with a missed shot.

Syjahel will take that shot if she can, and follow up with another if the opportunity comes, (since it's a repeater, but the moleman looks to be closing to melee). She'll keep her distance from Sinful as it looks like he's in frenzy ... once the moleman is too close for bowshot she'll switch back to sword and shield, using the cover of her shield to full advantage as the claws on these things are hefty. However, one of the group is down and we need an advantage, so she'll try to trip her opponent by feinting at its top half, then aiming a kick to its lower legs.

OOC: don't want to post too much too far ahead, in battle anything can happen ...

OCC: Sry, but I probably will not post very often or regular in the futur as my computer is broken at the mom. If necessary let Drainial write a post for me. Sorry.

The light was exactly what he had waited for. The moleman obviously was stunned by the light and he could now see his enemie. Taking his chance he threw his dagger at the mole aming at the head. Then he lunched forward with all the might ha had left and launched his sword at his victem, aming his blow at his tummy.
Malus will try to fight with his allies. He had realises that he is in a bad condition and will try to get as much cower and help as he can.

Swashing trough the darkness Sinfulblade slowly advanced, his blades although moving swiftly and in powerful strokes failed to hit home again, frustrated and still in berserk rage Sinful started to move faster, hissing furiously as he did. Where could have the blasted creature gone to? With frustration heaping up it was inevitable that the trainee would be too hyped up for his own good as the inevitable came and the bastard sword finally collided with the wall of the narrow passage, the hit resonating throughout the body of the teal elf, shaking him as he just barely managed to hold on to his sword.

Slightly paralyzed Sinful was then hit by the light coming from the corridor as the rest of the party rushed to his and the struggling shade’s help. Bathed in light and still on the unsteady edge separating clear thought and frenzy the teal khainate staggered back a few steps, regaining his footing and feeling senses slowly return to his numbed arm

Vision glared up and the veil of darkness was slowly being pulled up, the stimuli from the surroundings hit Sinful from all sides as he slowly regained feeling in his entire body, feelings that were more surreal than human when under Khaine’s bloodlust.

Only now did Sinful have the opportunity to fully take in how his nemesis look like, the sight of the deformed mutant creature making the teal elf cringe as he shook his head for a moment clearing the last remains of the frenzy away. Composure regained and clear thought once again tasted the trainee wasted no time and started his advance once more striding towards the cowering creature with weapons ready.

Seeing his opportunity Sinfulblade will be on the offence once more. Switching the weapons in his hands so that the bastard sword would be in his stronger arm whilst the short sword would remain in the still slightly numbed down arm. Sinful will completely ignore anything and anyone around him trying to concentrate on the moleman that was cowering next to him, using the difference in height and positioning he will try to strike downwards with the bastard sword while using the short sword only for defensive purposes if the creature were to make a counterattack

Khalea stepped forward as the light bathed over the combat, revealing both the hard pressed Druchii and the hideous molemen. There was a pair of the beastmen in combat with the other two druchii, and a second pair charging into the combat as reinforcements. It was going to be a madhouse, Khalea noticed, and she did not want to get stuck in the middle of it.

She noticed that both of the male Druchii were wounded, though luckily neither was seriously hurt. Their chances of success had taken a serious hit when Ghost had died, and if anyone else in their small band died it would be even worse. She would need to keep them alive if this mission was to have an even remote chance of success.

However, she also noticed the bezerking Khanite, and resolved not to go near to him, even if he was in dire peril. She knew that an out of control combatant was just as much of a threat to his allies as he was to his enemies.

Khalea stopped well short of the combat, about a dozen paces behind the 2 male Druchii, and raised her crossbow. She took a second to aim before letting fly a bolt at the nearest moleman.

Khalea will use her crossbow, firing as fast as possible while still taking the time to aim each and every shot. She will attempt to kill or maim the two reinforcing molemen before they get into combat, and otherwise will take any good shots at the two in melee. She will only drop the crossbow and draw her sword if she absolutely has to.

If Khalea is forced into melee she will try to stick with Syjahel, staying on her shield side if possible.

Light bathed the entire battle now and the mole men were quite plainly less than pleased as their secure little world of sound and scent was ripped apart by an unlooked for intrusion of light. To the Druchii struggling in the dark though it was a gift sent from above, perhaps the aspect of the burning maiden or the torch bearer; Khaine was such a wonderfully versatile god. With the light on their side and numbers even perhaps things were on the up for the band of mercenaries.

As the light hit their atrophied eyes the new comers succumbed to the unreasoning rage which had cost Ghost his life, shrieking high pitched war cries in some unnameable language they charged forwards, claws out stretched, focused on nothing but extinguishing the light and exterminating those who had brought it with them.

Raising her new found hand bow Syjahel was itching to try her new toy, much more compact than a standard repeater though with a shorter range. In such a cramped space the range mattered little, but accuracy would count for a great deal.

The first shot whispered over the head of one mole man as the noble born sell sword misjudged the recoil, the second flew to the left as she corrected in haste. The mole man was closing fast, as a third bolt fell into place Syjahel aimed for the thing's chest; once again she had over corrected but luckily not so badly as before. The small bolt smacked into the creature's leg with a wet crunch, striking just above the knee and causing it to stumble sinking to one knee. Though its leg could no longer support its weight the mole thing barely seemed to notice, still straining to reach the burning light. Letting her hand bow drop Syjahel drew her sword once more and stepped forward, striding around the beast she kicked it squarely in the back sending it sprawling onto the floor before thrusting down and severing its spine.

Taking advantage of his opponents sudden discombobulation and finally able to see his tormentor Malus flung his dagger at the beast man's head. Cowering in the sudden light the mole man ducked low, but not low enough. Instead of taking it through the temple as he had intended Malus' blade struck the crown of the thing's small head and stuck there, quivering.

The mole man screamed in pains both new and old, with one arm useless and blind to the world the creature did not even see the next stroke coming. Thrusting forward with his short sword Malus stabbed the creature in the gut. As its intestines began to pool on the floor Malus stood away from the mewling thing, he had earned a few seconds rest.

Sinfulblade meanwhile wanted no rest, only blood. Switching his bastard sword to his momentarily stronger off hand the blood mad Khainite met the light mad moleman. Both were wounded, both were frenzied, but only one fought better in light than in darkness. Claw met steel on the first pass, blade clanging against bone, neither cared much for defence and only thanks to luck were either still standing after the first impact. There was no let up in the fury of attacks from either side and soon a long gash traced its way across Sinful's ribs.

The pain only spurred the Khainite on to greater feats of insanity and with a move as dangerous to the user as it was deadly to his opponent he raised both blades high in the air. The mole man began to strike forward, long claws reaching for Sinful's pounding heart, they never got there. The bastard sword bit down first, thundering down through flesh and bone. The large sword shattered the mole man's collarbone and kept going. Half a heartbeat later the short sword crashed into the collar from the other side and splintered it in great gout of gore.

Arms quite useless the mole man was driven to its knees, still straining to reach its enemy.

With practised ease Khalea took in the battle field and decided that it would be far better to end the whole thing from a distance, if only a distance of a few dozen meters. Raising her crossbow to her shoulder she sighted the mole man on the right seeing Syjahel take aim at the left most creature.

Taking careful aim the shade opened fire, the first bolt smacked into her target's upper arm, it barely seemed to notice, and the second flew over its shoulder and into the darkness. The third was a beauty, the creature was closer now, and she could see the glazed look in its white eyes. Her bolt flew through the air to strike the creature directly between those tiny eyes, no shrieking for this beast, it fell without a sound.

And as quickly as it had all begun the fight was over. Only the cries of dyeing enemies and heavy breathing could be heard. The only question was what to do next.

OOC: Syjahel (sorry about the name thing, must do better) don't worry about ammo, just assume you have enough I can't be bothered to keep track of it all. Also on the issue of repeaters you can fire three shots a post, though if you decide to fire less they will be more accurate.

At any rate this batch of mole men is done with so consider your next move.
As an aside although both Sinful and Malus are injured and could use a couple of bandages their wounds shouldn't affect their performance too badly (unless I am feeling malicious).

OOC: Epic battle finale post Drainial! Thanks for the word about the ammo, much more sensible than me counting it off I'd surely forget! :) Don't worry about the name. I knew who you meant :P

It was a bloody slaughter. It was a screaming, murderous whirlwind of rage. It was a glorious victory, ended with the perfect shot like the final flourish of a dance, and in its aftermath the young highborn's blood was still singing. She gathered up the fallen handbow - vowing to take the time to be proficient with it some day soon - and took stock of the situation. Khalea stood a little way behind her, the two men in front, both bloodied but alive. She gazed out into the darkness, scanning it with suspicion for a few moments before finally admitting that the fight was done for now.

Running the back of one gloved hand over her cheek, she felt her breathing and her pulse slow as she brushed a splash of blood away. Sultra, if this had been mine, you would owe me an explanation at the end of my blade. Turning to Khalea she said, "A fine shot. Khaine looks well on us this day."

The two loners had taken the brunt of the assault. She wasn't so sure, now, having witnessed his explosive frenzy of savage violence, that the strangely-coloured Elf was a Shade at all. He was clearly marked by the War God, which improved her estimation of him, but equally he was of questionable sanity. She resolved to keep an eye on him but also keep her distance. Still, the survival of the group depended on all of them pulling together, and she wasn't about to let her personal thoughts cloud her judgement. The other one, the dark silent one who kept his own counsel, was still bleeding, standing a little unsteadily, catching his breath.

She set aside her battered shield with care - not too far away - and knelt beside the wounded Shade to examine Malus' wound more closely.

"Sit and I'll dress it for you, if you will." She didn't know how the Autarii managed these things, but she looked around for something to improvise a bandage with, settling on the scarf from around her neck if her battlefield ministrations should be acceptable. It would need to be looked at by a proper healer later, but for now they didn't have one handy. The young noblewoman wasn't worried that the scent of blood would attract more of the mole-beasts - the air was full of it - but she thought that too much blood loss would surely slow him down.

Dirty, grim and dangerous work indeed, my Lord. Well, you asked us to investigate, and this we have done. I wonder what you really wanted from sending us down here ...? Turning to the others she said,

"Well, our guide is dead - killed in the tunnels that way," she gestured behind her, "and Sultra gave us a very open brief indeed. We're to 'investigate'.

"The question now becomes, are we done with investigating, and if we are not, how best can we profit by this if we remain looking for more?"

Syjahel will dress Malus' wound if he allows her to (don't want to tell you what your character's doing y'see) and then take care of her weapons, make sure her new toy is fully loaded etc while waiting to hear what everyone else wants to do. She wants to hear what they have to say before she adds her own ideas.

Khalea couldn't help but smile a little as her third shot took the moleman down clean. She was annoyed that it had taken her three shots, and that it had managed to get so close to her before she had killed it. The battle was over, and fortunately all 4 druchii remained standing, something she had hoped for. The two druchii that she and Syjahel had reinforced were wounded, though neither seriously.

Khalea's first action upon reaching the sudden silence after the battle was to reload her crossbow, the firing mechanism clicking into place as she readied the weapon. She briefly thought about fixing the wrist blades that she had taken from ghost's corpse but quickly shook the folly from her mind, as right now was neither the time nor place to learn a new weapon.

Khalea took up a position near the light-slave, watching the tunnel in both directions, trying to hear above the panting breaths of the victorious druchii. Her crossbow was held in a relaxed position, though she was ready to aim it at a moments notice. She saw Syjahel moving to tend to Malus' wounds, and listened to her ideas about their current status.

We stand to gain very little. Khalea said, her quiet voice little more than a whisper They carry nothing of value, and It would be very easy to become lost.

However who knows the way back? Khalea though she remembered how to get back, as she had a great memory, but even she was not sure in the dark, seemingly featureless tunnels.

Malus smiled, though his face was still hidden. The look of the carnage infront of him gave him a warm harty feeling in his tummy. With adrenalin gone he felt his leg and shoulder more painfully again, but he was used to injuries like that, they were un avoidible in his montain home, the price for a live in solitude and peace. One of his companions offered to help him with his injury, what in itselfe surrprised him but also seemed to want to use her owen, expensive looking scar to threat him. It only took him a secound to thinik about it, then he said: "I can handale those" and much quiter less then a wisper "Thanks.", he was not even sure if Syjahel had heard it. He had 3 reason for his decision first he didn't trust her, she was a darkelf and probably highborn after all, secoundly he thought he could threat him self better than she could, but thirdly ,and most important for him, he wanted to keep to himself.
So he cut two stipes from the end of his cloake, on which the warm blood of him and his victem were mixing and dried in different shapes of dark red, and bound both pieces around his wounds with strenght so that they would not losen and stop his bleeding. Not making a sound upon the pain pusing through him he listed to the conversation of the women. His oppinion was that it would be stupide to take any unpayed risks. They had found out something about the tunnels. Cutting of the head of the moleman he had slayed, and taking his knife back, he said:"I think I know the way back.". He took the head of the beast as a prove of their victory. Putting away his sword and taking his crosbow in stead he turned to the way they had comefrom, waiting for the others to follow him.
If the others follow he will lead them trhe way he thinks is right.

For but a split moment peace set down upon the eerie duet of the moleman and the teal trainee. Both of them locked their eyes it seemed, though both were blind in different ways. The calm moment lasted for a second though as if one they both got ready and charged towards each other.

Hissing and roaring, turning and dodging they danced together in berserk rage, claw meeting druchii steel chaotic rage burning around them as they desperately tried to cut through each other. At first Sinful struggled against the inhuman desperation that the mutant threw at him, with one of his hands still stinging after the prior collision and mind clouded with rage it took some time for him to slowly gain the upper hand.

The long struggle reached its peak as the moleman scraped his claws over the ribcage of Sinfulblade, the razor sharp tips of the claws slicing through skin as easily as it ripped the shade cloak covering the elf, but with that last slash the luck of the moleman ran out.

Pulling his swords high in the air Sinful opened up his chest to the assailant and without a second though he lunged into the trap. Blades biting down on the collar bone of the moleman on both sides showered the khainate in sprinkles of blood and gore as the sound of crunching bone echoed around him. The deadly clawed hands went limp at the moleman’s sides as he screeched defiantly in defeat.

Putting his foot against the chest of his opponent Sinful pushed him against the wall and grinned a maniac’s grin savoring the moment of utter victory. The green eyes of the elf slowly traveled over the downed beast, taking into account every small wound, wrinkle and drop of sweat that he could decipher upon the wet unhealthy skin of the creature.

As much as he wanted this moment of carnage to last he knew better and in a reluctant manner Sinful casually tugged both of the swords towards the head of the beast and cut open a huge fatal gap in the chest of the creature finally heralding its demise. Pulling out from him and taking a step back the teal elf admired his work for just a few more seconds before he grinned to himself.

After the clamour of battle the tunnels subsided into the echoic quietness of a crypt, disturbed only by the four remaining adventurers planning in their tiny circle of light.

Syjahel gathered up her new found weapons before stooping to help one of her companions, after all there is no use stabbing someone in the back while swords ring you on all sides.
"Sit and I'll dress it for you, if you will." the first words to break the silence after the battle rage had vanished, an offer of aid, rejected.
" I can handle those” Malus waved the highborn hireling away, preferring his own hand. Thanks. a whispered half breath, perhaps suggesting that some day that help might be accepted, even proffered.

Replacing her scarf Syjahel stood
"Well, our guide is dead - killed in the tunnels that way, and Sultra gave us a very open brief indeed. We're to 'investigate'. The question now becomes, are we done with investigating, and if we are not, how best can we profit by this if we remain looking for more?"

The sharp click of a crossbow magazine clipping into place drew eyes to Khalea
We stand to gain very little. she said by way of answer They carry nothing of value, and It would be very easy to become lost.

However who knows the way back?

Pulling the bloodied strips torn from his own cloak tight around his wounds Malus stood
" I think I know the way back. "

The shade waited for a moment to see if any further opinions would be raised, but Sinful appeared to be content playing with his food and Syjahel for the first time seemed uncertain. Lacking any other course of action Malus began the trudge back through the darkness to the steps.

After he had gone a few paces Syjahel joined him, then Khalea nudging the shaken and shivering slave in front of her. Shaking of the last of his blood haze Sinfulblade finally seemed to notice the dying light, shrugging his shoulders the Khainite ran a few paces to bring up the rear.

In the tunnels all traces of the combat of mere moments before were swallowed in an instant. As the one pool of light in the halls of darkness moved on everything seemed calm. Led by Malus they kept to one long wide path, ignoring the intersections leading down narrower paths. The place was a labyrinth, like the veins of some long dead titan, but by sticking to the main path on the way in they had given themselves a decent chance to find daylight again.

The end was in sight when it happened, a second pool of light at the end of the tunnel could by spied and all hearts were lifted. They were almost clear, within a few hundred yards, when the very walls began to thud like a kettle drum. The noise was terrible, like a thousand blades hammering on shields, an army waiting for the bloodshed to come.

Moments after it started flecks of dust began to fall from the ceiling, then clumps of rock crumbled away from the wall. The noise intensified still further till with a near deafening crash the walls gave way in two places. The walls collapsed and mutants poured into the tunnel, screeching their foul war cries. One gaping hole appeared in front of the group, half a dozen already waiting for them with others rushing to join them.

Behind too a great gap appeared in the wall and a host of foul wrinkled mole things gushed into the main tunnel.

The exit was near, escape close, so close now. Only a few blighted beasts to the fore, but a great chittering horde behind.

Sinfulblade, sorry your character doesn't feature much in this post, but you didn't have him doing anything after combat. As no definite opinion was expressed by Syjahel or Sinful and Kahlea seemed in favour of going anyway I thought I would speed things along a little. Anyway enjoy the vast horde of molemen, they are about fifty meters behind you, the six in front about ten meters away and the exit from the tunnels about fifty meters past them. Enjoy

Taking the initiative again Malus tryed to bring order in the errupting chaos. They could never prevail against the big hord of moleman in their back, they had to brake through the ones ahad of them. But to ingnore the ones behind them would mean certain death.

You three make the way out clear. I'll try to hold them off long enogh.

That sounded more nobel than he felt. He'd still try to get out of the tunnels as soon and as safely as possible and that was the best way he could see.
Not having time to look weather his companions agreed with his plan he turned around amiedn and shot two bolts at the moleman at their rear.

If the moleman are still far enough away he'll fire another 3 shots other wise he draws his sword.

A brief time to concur, and the rest of those who spoke agreed with her private opinion that the tunnels were a lost cause. There should be 'interest' enough for Sultra in the severed head of one of the vile beasts. The young highborn had knelt to look at the wounds of the Shade - it makes no sense to have one's allies bleeding out on the floor, after all, however short the liason - but, as independent as she remembered hearing, the Autarii had preferred to dress his own injuries. She took back her scarf and stood, straightening for departure.

"Thanks." The word was the merest whisper. She hadn't expected even an acknowledgement. Syjahel nodded almost imperceptibly, holding the Shade's dark eyes for only long enough to show that it had registered. Her head snapped around instinctively as she heard the click of Khalea's crossbow. She relaxed slightly and spared only a brief glance at the blood-happy Sinfulblade, still contemplating his latest offering to Khaine's glory.

Trusting that the two Autarii would know their way in these accursed tunnels - almost; she couldn't help but wrack her own recall for signs of recognition - Syjahel kept her sword drawn and her new handbow where she could retrieve it easily. The damp walls glittered unpleasantly in the torchlight, and she made sure to keep the lamp slave where she could protect him. Khalea seemed to have the same idea, making sure that he kept pace with the group.

Lacking the music of knightly keikalla, the journey was quiet, each Elf keeping their own counsel. It suited the restless noble, leaving her to her own thoughts. Though these featured detailed 'explanations' from Sultra quite prominently, she couldn't deny that he had clearly survived a long time. Which meant that he had a lot that could be taught, if he could be persuaded to pass it on. Her mind dwellt on possibilities, but it wasn't for long. There was a light in sight now from up ahead.

With the light came a cacophony, as if vengeful ghosts were breaking loose from some nether hell. The very walls crumbled and shook, and then a horde of the unholy things broke through, some appearing to cut off their exit, others swarming up the tunnel towards the rearguard.

Though the tunnel wasn't a battleground she would have chosen, the highborn knew of a dozen stratagems for an ambush like this in the field. Unfortunately they relied on heavily armoured troops breaking through the front ranks, or the use of cavalry. She had two Shades and a berserker to work with. Still, the principle was sound ...

Malus had already seized the initiative and she couldn't better his plan. Six ahead. An unknown amount behind. Judging by past experience the slight Autarii woman would make best use of her crossbow, and the Khainite would lose himself in lethal battle-lust. She didn't know if they would do the same here, but there wasn't time to ask. Taking her sword in her hand and bringing up her battered shield once more, the highborn screamed a battlecry of defiance and charged.

Syjahel doesn't intend to engage all six molemen but instead to try to use an element of surprise and audacity to punch through the line, so that she can attack them from behind while Sinfulblade and Khalea take their actions. She knows she isn't able to take much punishment if she gets pinned down, but she hopes her armour will help, and she is very fast. She'll use this to her advantage and try to shield-bash any out of her way while taking any opportunistic strikes she can. Once behind them she wants to strike at their backs or else keep some facing her and thus giving the others a rear target.

Keep them confused, keep them distracted, and keep harrying and striking using the shield as cover once positioned where she wants to be. She'll try to keep on the oppostite side from Sinful if he kicks off. Maybe someone from above will hear and perhaps assist. But she'll assume they're on their own for now.

Khalea let out an audible groan as the molemen swarm breached the tunnel, swarming in both in front and behind the ragged druchii band. However, her dismay did not stop her from trying to find the best possible solution.

"No time" Khalea said tersely Break through them and get to the light She would rather that they all survive, as each survivor would add a little security from their "employer" from betraying them. However, this did not mean that Khalea would let herself get trapped down here attempting to save the rest. The slave did not matter anymore, and Khalea would sacrifice it if needed to help the party escape.

Khalea will fire her crossbow in front of Syjahel's charge, attempt to wound the molemen that are in front of the charging warrior. She will then charge in behind the noblewomen, attempting to help punch through the molemen's line.

Sinfulblade leaned back from his long look over of the downed moleman and cocked a confused brow as he noticed the rest of the party walking off. With a silent shrug and one last kick at the cooling corpse of the mutant the teal elf reluctantly turned to follow the rest of the ragtag band of mercenaries.

Returning to his own contemplative mind Sinful didn’t notice as moments of their journey passed, it all seemed to happen in an instant before they finally saw the glimmer of light ahead. The short mission was almost over and soon they would be above ground once again.

However, as usually it was with missions like these the quick way out was never the one that occurred often. With a bellowing sound that could only harkon danger the walls themselves started to shift and move and as one two groups of the blasted mole creatures poured from the fresh gaps in the stone carcass of the tunnel, one smaller one in front of the group and a vast bloodthirsty horde behind them

Hissing a silent war cry Sinfulblade drew his Bastard sword with one hand and a throwing knife with the other, taking a few moments to aim he let loose the sharp projectile at the closes moleman separating him from the exit, before he clenched his fists and started to tremble.

The red mist of Khaine was closing in on him once more, but clear though rang out that this was not the time to let oneself get devoured by the sweet intoxicating power that Khaine granted with his fury. Trying to control himself the teal trainee glanced at the shaking slave nearby.

With a wicked grin forming on his thin face the gaunt Khainate grabbed the torch from the slave and smiled at him.

“The burden of carrying the hot illumination shall be mine to have from now on”

With that he grabbed the slave and turned him towards the horde closing in on the group from behind. Quickly fixing his boot on the lower back of the slave he shoved him forward towards the menacing molemen.

Once done the trainee snapped his attention back to the fore and gripped his bastard sword tightly slowly striding towards the beasts. Mouth parted in an arrogant grin and the torch held high above his head Sinful strode defiantly forwards, his bastard sword held low in wait for an uppercut slice at the first beast to charge the light and him along with it.

Sinfulblade will move in a slow sprint, his sword held low and ready for a powerful slice upwards as soon as any of the beasts closes in on him, meanwhile the torch will be used a defensive weapon if need be by thrusting it towards the eyes of the near-blind beasts

OOC: It’s alright, I didn’t really give you much to work with and even so the part where you said that Sinfulblade was playing with his food, was better than a whole chapter centered only around him.
Now on to the subject matter of me controlling the slave in such a way, since he is an npc that is supposed to be unarmed and incapable of being any use in a battle I hope it’s not too controlling what I have done, if you find it too much, than simply ignore the whole slave part.

Oh and I would like to apologize for always being a day or two late with my reply, but I have a very serious case of the exams, so I just can’t really log on to leisure sites as often as I would like.

The whole mission seemed to have gone to hell in a hand cart, vast numbers of the hideous troglodytes were still pouring from the walls, victory was not an option and escape seemed increasingly unlikely.

Malus seemed to be suffering a sudden attack of nobility, volunteering to hold back the molemen for the others to escape, turning he fired into the heaving mass of claws and flesh bearing down upon the party. With so many enemies in such a confined space the shade could hardly have missed, squeals of pain cut through the screeching roar as bolt after bolt thudded into flesh. Several of the things fell, it was impossible to judge how many, only to be trampled by their fellows swarming on forward.

Syjahel's mind raced, trying desperately to come up with some ingenious plan to keep her skin intact. The simplest plan was perhaps the most sound, and she settled on it. Screaming her rage and devotion the warrior flung herself shield first at the mutants blocking their path.
"BLOOD FOR KHAINE! FOR NAGGAROTH!"

Desperation leant her strength, with a raised shield she slammed into a moleman at the very centre of the line. The mutant tried to lash out as she approached, but clearly this sudden attack was far from expected, the callused wood shattered the beast's delicate nose and knocked it from its feet. Syjahel's momentum carried her through and she turned on her heel, just in time to block a strike from the first standing moleman to react, ducking under another blow and taking a third on her shield Syjahel knew that without help she would never make it out of the tunnels alive.

Reacting seconds later Khalea hurriedly raised her repeater to her shoulder and let of a stream of bolts towards the repugnant blockade. Two bolts buried themselves in unnatural flesh, striking the lower back of one of the fiends belabouring an increasingly desperate Syjahel. Not pausing to draw a blade the shade plunged forward to the aid of her new found companion.

Sinful meanwhile was living up to his name, though the scent of blood was intoxicating and the battle rage near at hand he struggled against it, though even the strongest mind could only hold the blood haze off for so long. Grasping the shivering slave half cowering on the floor the strangely coloured elf decided that he might as well be a little more active in furthering the cause of his master's servants.
“The burden of carrying the hot illumination shall be mine to have from now on”
With that the Khainite wrenched the witch light from trembling fingers. With his other hand, full with a blade though it was, Sinful pushed to slave towards the rapidly approaching mob. Placing a booted foot on the sweaty bare flesh of it's naked back Sinful kicked the mewling creature into the swarm.

For a second the slave stood there, dumbfounded, then as he looked into the oncoming claws he let out a terrible scream, the first sound he had uttered and the first cry of elven terror to mingle with the molemen's squealing tongue. Then they hit him, blood sprayed across the walls as four molemen paused to rend the slaves flesh with rock breaking talons, his screams were not prolonged but the whole throbbing mass of enemies was halted for precious moments while the front runners harvested the hated light walker's life. Giving Malus time enough to plough yet more bolts into the seemingly unending mob before drawing his blade, some died, others carried on.

Turning back to the exit and the five molemen still baring the way Sinful moved to the aid of his companions, blade held low and lamp by his side. As he approached two of the things which had been scrabbling against Syjahel's defences detached from the frenzied mass in the narrowing tunnel and flung themselves at him, anything to extinguish the light! Sinful cut upwards, bastard blade scything through air, and skin, and flesh, and bone. The sword took the foremost moleman through the right leg and severed it, squealing in agony and shock the frenzied beastman fell to the ground with an audible crack, still struggling to reach the light. It's companion struck a second later, its claws slashed forward forcing Sinfulblade to dance back. Thrusting the lamp forward into its eyes Sinful forced the moleman back, only to take a gash across the cheek as he was too slow to duck a wild blow.

Syjahel's breath was ragged and she was running out of tricks, the shield was beyond worn now, if it took much more punishment it was liable to shatter. Three mole men battered at her guard, and she had been successful enough, she was alive at least, but only just. The warrior princess had taken a nasty cut to her sword arm and her ribs felt like hell after a blow had caught her there, if not for her armour elven guts would no longer be safely enfolded in elven flesh. Ducking another strike she prayed from assistance, from anywhere.

Khalea slammed into the molemen from behind, unexpected and striking from the rear the shade cracked one mutant on the back of the head with the butt of her crossbow, driving it to its knees with a howl.

As it dropped another blow fell upon Sjyahel's shield, it held again, but only just and the sheer force of the blow knocked her off balance and onto the hard cold ground. With a shriek of glee the remaining two able bodied molemen and the now risen beast downed by her first charge scrambled forward to do bloody execution. The foremost mutant leapt forward, claws raised to bring a swift and messy death to the intruder, prone the mercenary could only look up in horror as it descended, and with surprise as a long steel spike sprouted from its neck. A similar fate awaited the second, the long curved blade of a halberd splitting its skull.

Help had arrived.

Ok allot happening in this one and it probably should go over two posting sessions, but I am often and impatient person and you haven't even begun the actual plotline yet (so I am weak willed, I have some ideas I am keen to introduce you to :D ) Anyway Syjahel is past the molemen, three of which are now dead, another as good as with another on its knees in front of Khalea and another facing Sinful. The mob is closer now, very close indeed though the trick with the slave bought some time (no I don't mind, so long as it is rational I will probably let you do it). 'Help' comes in the form of warriors from the tower above, they are basically just behind Syjahel and there are quite a lot of them.

Oh and Sinfulblade, don't worry about it, you’re not the only one with exams :( .

Moding a group of Druchii.net players is much like directing the musical 'Cats' using actual cats. Frustrating, difficult, chaotic but ultimatley satisfying and a great deal of fun.

Khalea saw what Sinful was doing, and she applauded his idea in her head, as the seconds that the slave would buy them could be crucial and well, Khalea didn't care a whit for the slave.

Kahlea grinned savagely as she buttstroked the unsuspecting moleman in the back of the head, knocking the creature to its knees. She had already shot two bolts into the creatures but didn't know if she had downed any, not having had the chance to watch the wounded creatures. Now a few of them remained holding the passage to safety.

Khalea watched Syjahel get knocked down, and wasn't close enough to help her fallen comrade. However, reinforcements had arrived and they did the trick, killing both of the molemen attacking the warrior. Khalea would have breated a sigh of relief if she wasn't still focused on the battle Khalea herself finished her opponent, shooting the kneeling moleman in the back of its head.

Khalea turned to see what help she could give their arriving reinforcements.
Their was easily enough Druchii to beat back the moleman horde, and hopefully exterminate the vermin.

However, the timely reinforcement had Khalea's hair standing on edge, as there was no reason for so many warriors to be fully equipped for battle here. She had seen no sign of them equipping for battle before the Druchii band had left, and they obviously weren't surprised to be facing such an enemy in the tunnels. Khalea began to suspect that their party had only been sent into the tunnels as bait, in order to pull all these molemen out into the open for their "employers" soldiers to slaughter. That would explain the ready soldiers, the small band being sent forward with so very little explanation, the unwillingness to pay in advance, and why the noble was using tavern dregs instead of his own warriors.

However, despite her possibly paranoid thoughts, she focused back onto the battle. She didn't plan on charging back into the combat herself now but she did want a little revenge upon the hideous creatures that had threatened her life.

Khalea will fire into the advancing molemen horde, taking her time to aim each of her shots so she wont hit Malus.

I should have been clearer looking back (it was late when I was writing) the two bolts went into the same moleman, and it is dead.
