White Dwarf gotten worse?
Anyone else think that White Dwarf has become more commercial?
I myself have bought every issue from 272-279, and some weeks ago I got a peek into a WD some years back.
It seems like there is WAY more commercials, ads and such.
Meaning. many pages where they show off miniatures to that and that prices.
For instance in WD279, there was a page with the prices on HE and DE minis.
And when I went through WD 276 I belive I found out that nearly 1/3 of the magazine was with ads, announcements of tournaments etc.
Many veterans have told me that the previous issues of WD were much more better, and that there seems to be alot more "pro-GW" stuff in WD than before. For instance the comments Paul Sawyer wrote about Warcry.
Some of the articles in WD are good, for instance about Paul Sawyers growing Chaos army, making your own Chaos warband, the fluff that sometimes is printed (thinking on the Index Astartes articles)
Personally I think they could drop the LOTR stuff and just publish it as a own magazine, cos by my account there are way more Warhammer and WH40K players than LOTR ones, to justify that LOTR takes up so much space.
And why the hell print articles that comes along the games anyhow. That's stupid. For instane the "How to get started with Two Towers game".

i agree, the WD has become a tv now with all the ads.it used to be chockers with battles and actually useful info. " who cares about the fickle teachings of the human's false god" i mean what is the go? that is just a waste of space! i want battle reports. fair and not made up stuff like what alessio makes up. all his battle reports have been wrong and laced with lies. i found that his lahmian vampire verses the HE was totally wrong. his units didnt add up to what they had. for khaines sack a black coach can not recieve upgrades and some how it costed 220 points. the druchii verses chaos was a joke and in all honesty we would have gotten raped! city guard could not hold out agianst chosen chaos knights! damn it is stupid.

White Dwarf has always been commercial, more a specialised catalogue of the products of games workshop than a magasin?
In older numbers there were sections of catalogues with miniatures and prices that you can buy in the mail order.
But the newer issues are much more "pro-GW" than before, and it has much more prewews of material prented in other products, and less original material.
The difference is that while first you have a catalogue were there was intelligent comments on the hobby now they say "buy this becouse we are the best".
Personally I think it seems that people who wrote for the dwarf has never herd of what they wrote before and think that what they are doing is the best done in every age, but they dont now what there was before.

What do you expect when you buy a magazine that is put out by a company that sells a product the magazine reviews? It is what it is and has always been this way.
While running a million dollar company, singing at weddings, and his frequent jetting to Spain Elton Jon style, Dark Alliance found the time to stand on the doorstep of Games Workshop like Moses and the Pharoah and calmly state, "Let my people go."
Well the only reasons I have a subscription to WD is for the fluff and coverage of the new books and models...the painting isnt bad either.
Besides that WD has always come up short...especially in the batreps...is it just me or do the most experienced players make the most ridiculous mistakes? *sigh* oh well.

I've gotten every single WD in the last 4 years (and lost most of them) - yes, they are commercial, but they are also an interesting source for gaming, modelling and they can even be funny sometimes. This months WD was admittedly lacking in size and quality, but look at others, such as the WD containing the cityguard list, or the one with the brettonian revised ravening hordes list and you'll see how interesting WD can really be. Its commercial, but whats wrong with that? You can find out the new releases, see how much they cost, and how many other magazines do you find with less adds than WD? As magazines go its probably towards the lower end of the scale, so give them a break.
Pomegranites- previously only seen in bad fantasy and famous five books (i know i shouldnt read them, but the ham is just too tempting) now theyre taking over the fruit world.

for battle reports i think they should get rid of the studio using their own armies and start using 100% 'eavy metal painted minitures. isn't that why they get painted in the first place?
also having 8 months of just chaos was a bit of a pain. next to that the LOTR section diddn't seem like such a waste of time.
also is it just me or do white dwarfs theese days smell different?

I really like White Dwarf. I can't wait to get every issue, and love the stories and stuff they put in, especially the 40k ones. Daemonhunters and Space Marines stories are exciting and action-packed, I think.
About ads and stuff, I couldn't really care, to be honest. It's one of the things pretty much all magazines have, and it's something we'll just have to deal with.
I actually prefer that the battle reports feature non-heavy metal painted miniatures. Because for instance, Gav Thorpe's Dwarfs in the latest WD look like how good I'll probably be able to get my Druchii. Those heavy metal guys have a natural talent, and will always be far better than most of us. That being said, I want WD to feature less "super-perfect" miniatures, and more average painted ones, like what I can do.
And yeah, sometimes GW botches up a part of a battle report, like giving somebody a wrong piece of equipment, or adding something up wrong, but I doubt we're all perfect anyway, and make mistakes like that too. I think GW are a great company, and we all wouldn't be playing Warhammer and stuff if they didn't exist.
Vanderghast.

When I buy WD I espect to have a magasin make by persons who are professionist who make this as their principal occupation and not a Pro-zine over the average. It must be a professional rewiew.
The persons who works for the GW are not only experienced player, they are professionist who play battels for our pleasure, and they cannot do so many "ridiculous" mistakes as whoever else can do!!
Yes, it is commercial, and I am the first to say that there is nothing wrong in this, but in this last two years at least there is always less professionality!

WD is a gaming catalog for every month so alot of it has to be adds. if u go way back to like 210 and all that year 1/3 of it was adds only they were all in the back. now its spread out more so it hasn;t gotten worst just they are being more clever at where they are putting there adds.

I've moved this to Wargaming Discussion seeming is has nothing to do with Dark Elves.
I don't nessecarily agree that WD is getting worse. Every now and then it has a great issue. Some of the ones with DoW in them were great and reletively new. As for advertisiing... I never really notice it anyhow.

Have a nice day
I think you will find that the LOTR section is contracted as part of the franchise for selling the LOTR models. I think they have no choice!
