Love your army
I especialled liked the bases and blood vestals. I have got a few of them waiting for painting :)

And a nice harpy conversion: I had this idea about harpies as well but I had no idea which way to go with the wings. I did a bit of research and came up with various versions of harpies, but I didn't like them enough to consider as a project.
May I ask which wings are these? I am rather new to warhammer fantasy and can't spot most parts easily :D

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. *blushes*

Yes, pinning seems to be the solution. Using a piece of wire also gave me more freedom to position the wings before reinforcing it with green stuff.

Anthalont: The wings are from Dark Eldar Scourges, which have both batlike and feathery ones. They may be a bit too large, though, I still have to see how well the basing and ranking goes.

With my finals close, I haven't had much time for painting, but I have been slowly working and now I can finally show you the results. After all the time, I now have a first full unit. I almost can't believe it!

Anyway, I have finished the remaining five Vestals, including the standard bearer and the musician. Not much more to be said here, really, apart from the fact that I really love these models and am looking forward to the Dark Elf kickstarter Raging Heroes have planned.

Image

I'm probably not going to take a photo of the whole unit together, as I think the two group shots show them off better, but they're even easier to rank up than I expected them to be.

The standard bearer:
Image

I have to say I don't really like the skulls on top of the banner. While they may fit the "real" Dark Elves, they don't really suit the style of our army. It would be very hard to remove them, though, and the model was otherwise too good to risk damaging it.
The standard itself won't stay this plain, but I'm still deciding what to put on it and how to paint it. And I want to focus on finishing more models, to be finally able to see them (and my boyfriend) in action.

Back view: (it's hard to see, but there's a blade at the lower end of the standard)

Nice job :). I too am looking forward to seeing the whole unit.

Also, I may just pinch your harpy idea, they look fantastic!

Keep up the great work.

Thanks for all the compliments. It makes me feel great that you like my painting.
I originally wasn't planning a unit shot, but as you have outvoted me... here you go. :)

Image

The movement tray was originally made for my spearelves, so it's too big for them, but so far it's the only movement tray I have.

Kurze: I'm glad you like the harpies and feel free to use the idea, but be warned, the scourge wings are really big and I expect to struggle with multi-level basing to make them all fit. But maybe you can find better wings than I have... :)

I came here to ask for a unit shot of those ladies and got it, thanks! :)

Also hows that harpy conversion coming along?
I'd have like to contribute and I have my preying mantis sitting on my desk, waiting for some wings to test but its a bit hard to get my hands on bits that I want in where I live -_-

Here is a photo of the latest progress on the harpy:

The column is finished, the harpy is very much a WIP, but you can see the intended pose. This should be the highest level of placement, also she takes space in front of her base (hopefully over the heads of her enemies), which should leave more room open for her sisters. At least that's the theory, I have not yet converted more of them.

That looks simply awesome.
Thanks for permission :)
I don't play competitively so ranking up nicely shouldn't really be an issue. Perhaps just take a matching number of nicely modelled 20mm bases to "touch" the enemy correctly, then line the harpies up behind them?

Upon thinking about this, do the GW harpies even rank up nicely?

No, but i could usually get them in by turning them sideways. Just having a couple bases flocked the same as the army to insert where they don't fit together is all I used initially. I eventually, because they are too top heavy, stuck 32 mm steel washers under the bases so they would stand up and just pretended they made it into combat. No one seemed to mind as they are just so impractical.

Thanks for all the compliments. :)

These models at least have the advantage of being resin, which means they are lighter and easier to balance.

I almost wish there was a like button so that I can give you a thumbs up for your every entry as opposed to filling your space with my "Awesome" comments.
That being said:
"Awesome!"
I really, really love that harpy. Your conversion turned out so much better than I had imagined. I'm going to have to re-think my next 10 harpies thanks to you. ;)

Xfallenx: Your "awesome" comments always make my day. To see that people like my work and are even inspired by it is a great motivation for me and makes me feel great.

I don't really know what to say in response to your kind words, so have an image instead:

I really like the harpy model, it looks really good with the addition of the wings! Much more like the harpies I imagine, rather than the outdated sculpts we have now :)

Looking forward to seeing how the rest of this unit comes together!

Thanks for all your kind words and finally... an update! :)

As many have expressed interest in the harpy conversion I have worked on her some more and this is what I have right now:

Fluff to come later, for now I would like to ask: What do you think? Like her? Needs some more work? She's not glued to her base yet and will need varnish (I think even these photos show the tips of her wings are grey instead of black/blue, I only noticed this after taking the pictures and am going to repair it) and maybe some more details, but other than that, should I call her more or less finished?

How nice!
I wish there was a zoom on the harpie's face... (yes, I said: face).

I find it hard to tell what is not finished in that model.
The features may well keep their greyish tip, that blends well with the model.

I also have to agree that the grey wing tips match the rest of the miniature but it all comes to how you want them to be. Overall, I think the harpy is finished and you have done a very good job, converting and painting.
I'd like to see some close-ups too.

I have to ask, how fragile is this model?

I think she's finished, but I wanted a second oppinion. Thanks very much for providing it. And thank you for all your compliments, they mean a lot to me. :)
About the wings... maybe you're right, but I imagined them all black, so I want to fix them. Other than that, I'm quite happy with her.

Your wish is my command, I'll snap some close-ups as soon as I have time and sufficient light. :)

Jarvax: They're made from hard resin material - quite diferent from GW finecast - and I haven't had any problems with her being fragile, even though she is really tiny. I have had some problems glueing her together, though, and I recomment pinning.

Lovely model, and I really like the addition of the wings!

The only thing I might suggest for any of the other harpies you have planned is changing where you pin them to the base. I think she needed to probably be another few mm forward - at the moment, when you 'zoom in' on her legs and the column and only focus on those, it looks more like she's fallen off and knocked her shin on the way down :P

Having said that, it's a VERY minor detail and only really true if you truly do focus on that area of the mini alone - as a whole, it still looks like she's leaping from the column down onto an unsuspecting prey, and I love it!! :D

Keep it up!!

Here is the close-up picture:

Image

I have tried to give her slightly unnatural eyes, completely blue with no whites or pupil.

Ilmaestro: I see what you mean. I wanted to give her extra support, as I didn't want to trust only the small piece of wire, but... damn, now I won't be able to stop seeing it! :D

EDIT: There is now a post on my blog about her, with brand new pictures and some more background.
