Dark Elf Names
I have near to no creativity when it comes to making up Dark Elf names, are there any processes or links anyone knows that could help come up with names? I tried a Sindarin (a LOTR variation of Elvish) name generator to come up with names and some seemed ok but they just all felt wrong. I know its purely an aesthetic thing to name your own lords and heroes but hey would like to do it for at least one of them

Re: Dark Elf Names
There is a romulan name generator that produces some useful sounding syllables. but I think the best strategy is to pick something from your generals experiences.Dark Elves prefer warnames (call signs in fighter pilot jargon) over family names.
so pick something based on feats from your general's performance in battle (enemies slain, slaves taken, not killed) and incorporate that into their name. Or base it from their wargear, armour bane, flashing blade, heart seeker, death piercer, sharp blade etd.

Re: Dark Elf Names
sounds like a good solid suggestion thanks for sharing. Unfortunately I am a fairly new player so I'll conjure up some fluff of stuff my general would have killed. I'm going for a watch tower army so heavily beast or chaos based.
Re: Dark Elf Names
Since Naggaroth is located in similar place, as Canada of the real world, I use Algonquin names ( for example http://babynames.merschat.com/index.cgi ... =Algonquin ) for my Mordheim warband.
Re: Dark Elf Names
You can look up Latina and Greek Gods, or Lattin words for something.
Excample: Enyo is a Greek War Goddess and sister and companion of Ares. Where Athena is the smart genius bruiser, and Ares is basicly a real World variant of Khain, Ennyo also liked a good slaughter, and was well versed with siege warfare.
You can take what GW has done and take something and make an anagram with it, or have it be a pun on something.
Helebrom=Hell Born; Morathi sounds alot like More Wraith: Malus and his Cold One Spite: Malice and Spite.

I like that too!
Nice idea I'll see if I can think of anything cool.

Re: Dark Elf Names
I'm sure there is a Druchii language thing on here somewhere (the site, not the forum)
I've used that for inspiration for my characters.
Also try looking up Elf languages on google. Not only Tolkien but fan made languages are out there, and some of them are quite good.
As already mentioned, ancient languages can be a good mining source i.e. Gaelic, Welsh, Latin, Greek, (archaic language of your choice).

Re: Dark Elf Names
two syllable warnames work quite well.
If the first sylable is an adjective like
slave, vermin, posion, stone, skin, soul, death, man, hope
and the second is a verb like
taker, bringer, slayer, skinner, flayer
then you can combine the two for intersting war names.

Re: Dark Elf Names
Name them whatever you want. You also can't go wrong with corrupted High Elf names, usually substituting in harsher syllables or slight variations. C's become K's and such like.
For example Caledor becomes Khalador or Kallador. Caradryel becomes Karad or Karond. Also look to the Dark Eldar line as well. Actually I have an old school mighty empires name generator around here....
ah here it is.

Excellent generator.
I feel that the discussion belongs rather to "the History of Druchii".

Re: Dark Elf Names
I co-wrote that story on the Jade Palace of Pain and the Citadel of Oblivion. Wow great memories when I actually had time for stuff like that!!
