Need help chosing!

Post by ras830 »

Hi again everybody!

I know I write a lot here asking all kinds of questions but I hope that I'm not too annoying! Hehe.

So anyways! I'm playing in a tourney this weekend where i will either meet; Lizzies, Vampires or Wood elves. Of those three i hope not to meet wood elves but I still have to do something to make sure that I will do good against any of them. Since we're only 4 teams then it's straight up the semifinals right ahead so hopefully i'm going to meet two of the three.

So the thing is, I brought two lvl 4's. One of them is Life and is going to stay in my unit of executioners for the lore attribute and for buffing them up in general. My other lvl 4 though! I just don't know which lore to use. I know that shadow does amazing things against Lizardmen and since a lot of the spells use initiative then i figured that it will also do good against most VC units. But it won't be that good against wood elves. :o_O:

I've thought about going for Dark with her instead but it just doesn't seem like it will be as good a choice as shadow is against those low initiative troops + i really would love to use withering on the lizardmen and VC's! :D

So what do you guys think? Should i use a completely different lore or would you use dark or shadow?

Really appreciate you taking your time to help me out ;)

Lore of Death! Especially if you can somehow stick her on a mount. Purple sun is a must stop for lizards and vampires alike, vs woodies you just default to spirit leech. Wood elves will hate the strength snipe and toughness snipe alike. And well, vampires... if you can snipe the vampire, the whole army crumbles. It gives you a ton of pressure for the entire magic phase. Again, especially if you can mount her.

I think part of your decision can come from the list you are running and if you want more of a damage approach or a hexing approach. In saying that, I think Thraundil has got it spot on. Death is a very good lore, and has a lot of useful spells. Purple Sun will destroy Lizardmen and VC, and all of the snipe spells will work brilliantly against any army. Doom and Darkness will work well at mitigating Lizardmen Cold-Blooded, and Soulblight can easily tip most combats in your favour. The only weak spell, in my opinion is the spell where you cause Fear (name has slipped my mind)

Death does look like quite a good choice now you mention it! So would you say Life and Death or do I also need to think differently with the Life SS?

How does the Lore Attribute from Life benefit a unit of Executioners?

I assume this is a rhetorical question. It doesn't benefit them at all ;) but I think he meant the signature spell, which is amazing for keeping our elite troops alive.

I'm a huge fan of dark magic. It's ability to cause damage is what really captures me. I've used it well against all the armies you've said you will face to great effect. Doombolt being my favorite.

Think of the cast distance as well. You have to get really close for most Death spells which isn't really that easy unless your mounted or flying and even then can be dangerous. Miasma is great for the distance but chances are against something like WE you'll get one unit of 10 models lowered and they will probably have 7-10 units. The dark debuff lowers strength which is sweet but doesn't effect bow hits. Doombolt on the other hand will waste about anything it touches 10 models or less, including terrorgiests and varghiests. In shadow you have no real direct damage spells other than the pit. You of corse also get the extra +1 for dark magic. Shadow only has one spell that really hurts Lizardmen, the pit. Your already have higher WS and Initiative so your going to murder them in combat.

I personally think you'll never get your money's worth out of 2 lvl 4s but if I had to choose something to go with Life it would be death due to the ability to gain more dice which you'll need for two casters.

Use Morathi. Then you get a combo of death, shadow and dark.

If no special characters then Death is good if you have a dreadlord. The FAQ illustrates that you can use the ld of the dreadlord if inside his ld bubble. Take a SS and lv2 death and you can get off 2 x ld10 spirit leeches. Plus the lore attribute gives you extra power dice. Getting close is problematic, but, if it is range that you are after, then heavens or fire is pretty decent.

I think shadow is the best way to go. Enfeebling Foe and Withering compliment DE perfectly, bringing down your opponents toughness and strength, and they remain in play meaning if they're not dispelled your opponent has to use his power dice to get rid of them and may even forget about them until combat. Also Pit of Shades can be brilliant for taking out chunks of low initiative troops.
