Almost done with the basecoats. I so hope to finish these quickly now.
I love me a bowl of numbers to crunch for breakfast. If you need anything theoryhammered, I gladly take requests.

Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
I love the color scheme. I started painting some wood elves recently with a black and deep purple scheme which simply does not work together as the colors just blend. The pop of the blue is much more pronounced and I'm sure will look great spread over an army.

Great progress so far. Bases look good.
Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
I'm really looking forward to seeing this unit completed. The blue is such a great colour and the horde of horses will be amazing to see on the tabletop

Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
The first tests of the warlock torso...
On my sorcress I felt I started too darkly with the basecoat so I went ahead and bought a dark flesh tone ... Ratskin flesh... to use as basecoat, instead of the XV-88. I mixed with it with Medium for easier flow and the result is the right most Warlock. It looked alright, until I started highlighting it. I have to paint over it almost completely because even the deep recesses make for too stark and too red a contrast as seen on the leftmost Warlock.
So I tried skipping that basecoat too, and start with a basecoat of Kislev flesh with Medium. That higlighted far better. I did add a thin line of ratskin near the cuffs and collar bones because it really felt lacking on contrast, but I definitely prefer the middle Warlock.

Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
The darkness around the features, and the smoother tones generally, helps to bring out the character of the one in the middle.

Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
I've done more work on the horses, but I'm putting them on hold for now. Since the beginning of AoS I've taken a different look on my dark elf collection. Instead of chosing a synergy between what I like and I think is semi viable for a tournament, I'm going strictly for what stories I have left in my head and what I'd like to see.
And here's what I want to go for: a unit of 40 spearmen. I always wanted to try a horde of them and see what I could do with it. I started a unit of 30 back in januari so I'll be finishing them and add 10 more. Last picture I have is apparently this one.
Now for the shield design, I'm unsure what to pick yet. For my first unit of spears, I took black shields with the sea serpent painted blue. I'd prefer to give this unit its own identity and so a different logo perhaps?
I would like blue to return to the shield, but since I've been adding bronze/brass to the models it might be nice to see that reflected on the shield as well.
A blue shield with a brass logo seems to bright and colourful to match the unit.
These are the options:
The options I'm considering:
- Black shield, blue serpent, brass/copper "fins"
- Black shield, winged skull with the skull in copper/brass and the wing in blue.
- Black shield, brass or blue skull. I think making this skull brass will kill the theme, but the blue will remove the brass effect. This needn't be a problem, but I fear it may look a little bland.

Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
I'm not sure I want to stick to a specific city in the heraldry as I like to play various themes and city themes :S
I could make a Cult of Khaine list, or a northern patrol list or a Corsair army. I have the models to try different themes, but not enough to model the same unit once for each city
So, I'm afraid they'd have to go with the "looks good" rule.
If there's a theme, then it's unit bound, and I'd make this unit state troops being Hag Graef, Klar Karond or Naggarond. The real story is that they are from the Watchtowers. I know only 1 or 2 pictures that display those troops, and it's in the 6th ed book. ET didn't include them, as they were considered "overrun" and destroyed.

This would be my vote. Just enough brass to draw the eye without looking off.

Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
I don't like using brass/gold on core units, it makes them look elite - stick with the metal I say!
I like the serpent icon best and would do it in a black shield, metal fins and blue serpent.

Re: [PLOG] Daeron's Blues
I would go for the black shield and blue serpent only (no other color for fins)
but if you feel you really need that brass, then by all means go for it on the fins

Serpent it is! I'll do one of each, brass fins and blue fins, and then see which one looks best on the model.

Time to finish these bad guys!
I'll focus on finishing them as they are built now. I'll work on their shield arm and shields after that.
