Threadomancy after 4 months with no progress.
Does it mean we have no steam for pushing the revival (or shall I say resurrection?) of Elven websites?

At the moment no. I find it hard to build up energy for the game, even. I keep an eye on the site to make sure it's all working in order, but that's all I can manage right now.
I did begin preparations for the new site and migration, but even those files have a month old timestamp :(

Yes, I still would like to do it. But right now, at 9pm, I just can muster the energy to get going with it.

I'm still keen to help with the graphics on the site - but can't do much without you Daeron. :(

Myself busy as ever with T9A.
Still keeping alive my first love for D.net.

I would provide some input when 2.0 and new DE AB will be delivered. But that's ~ the end of the year.

I'm caring for my parents pretty much full-time now, so have very little time to spend on anything hobby-related. Plus, my enthusiasm for AoS has taken a bit of a hit from the continued lack of any news (or even rumours) from GW about what's going to happen with the Aelves (and Slaanesh). There just... doesn't seem to be anything to talk about right now. I can't start discussions about tactics because I'm not playing any games of AoS at the moment due to lack of time. Likewise, I haven't gotten anything painted for months (and the stuff I'm planning on painting next is mostly 40K stuff anyway). And everything that can be said about the tiny scraps of lore GW have revealed for the Aelves in AoS has already been said. So what's an AoS Animator to do? :(

Traffic in D.net gets very low these days.
D.net becoming zombie like Asrai. :(

Yes, sadly D.net is basically on life support, kept alive by the periodic efforts of mods, very occasional PLOG posts, and bat rep links to youtube that are likely posted to as many sites as the bat-rep player can find in order to generate traffic.

At the time that AoS came out, I predicted this would be the future. Case in point here from July 2015:

AhrimanJJB wrote:
What I would say however is maybe wait to make your mind up for another ~6 months...I will however be posting more and more on this site, as AoS has finally made me want to compile an army again. And to me that cannot be a bad thing.

Red... wrote:
If you're genuinely here and still posting actively in 6 months, that will indeed be a good thing. I hope to see you then. But forgive me, I'm not yet convinced that you - or any of the suddenly active accounts with previously very low or non-existent post counts - will be. I look forward to being proven wrong.

AhrimanJJB has a mighty 7 posts to his name. Oh dear.

I'm very sad to be proven right - but maybe it's time to let D.Net die with quiet dignity. In many ways, that would be really sad - D.Net has been a place I have lots of good memories from and I have learned a lot from too. But, maybe better that than keeping it just sort of sadly limping along as a shadow of its former heydays and no real prospects of return (the simple truth is, the site caters for a game that no longer exists).

Or, perhaps more positively, it's time to turn it into a legacy site and compile the best of it all - the DRAICH, the magazine back issues, the stories, the competitions, the PLOGs, and so on - in an accessible rather than forum format.

Yep - the place is dead!

I was very keen to get the new site up an running - but even that has now fallen by the wayside! I think Daeron has lost interest (no dig intended)

There has to be a new elven release coming soon and we should be getting ready for that. T9A has lost steam after the initial hype of it's release and we have failed to attract traffic from that.

It will be sad to close this site down I come here on a daily basis - but its hard to have a conversation with yourself.

The fact we haven't seen a release and have literally no lore at this stage, other than a few footnotes in some books is really hurting the elves. Not only that but lets face it they really haven't done a whole lot in 2 years to support us, unless you enjoy forest spirits. it makes it hard to build an army and get excited, or compete against the new army books.

V2 rules to be released somewhere before end of 2017.
DE army book to be updated shortly after.

Well, I missed the glory days of D.net, but I was happy to initially lurk in and find a few like-minded (evil ) souls!

I still check the site on my net browsing time regularly -- it's fairly dead, but not significantly deader than any of the other Old Warhammer World race-specific sites. Even the big general sites like Warseer have dropped off considerably on the fantasy side.

Myself, I mentally parted company with current GW on the destruction of the gameworld and game I was invested in. Haven't DE hobbied since then. Only wargame hobby time has been on my own version of Warhammer ...but difficult to find the time and resources required for the project.

Personally, I don't think we should close this site until we know where GW are going with the new Aelves; you never know, with support and new releases there might just be enough momentum for a combined site :)

And ...thanks very much to Daeron, Rork, Calisson et al for keeping this site running over the years, and to all the posters and contributers. The sun may be setting on D.net, but you all made it a great place to be 8)

Hey all - hope you're all well and having a bright enough week! I thought I'd quickly say "hi" and note the unique nature of interaction on D.net. My short story echoed TD's above. AOS was big for me. I kind of worked through the whole DABDA framework where the final A was just a much purer form of anger than the first. Inspired a searing hatred and contempt for GW at an atomic level, intensified by nostalgia, etc. That stopped me playing at their stores, and returning friends with a little less invested, similarly appalled by GW's decision RE: WFB simply decided not to re-invest in the hobby. Who knows what all that cost them! £4-5k I guess, across four people?

Anyway, the reason I felt it relevant to post here;

1 - I've been guilty of being an occasional login/watcher for a while, and the thread felt like it needed the vote of appreciation/presence that D.net demands, because...

2 - Whilst flirting with Eldar (at an incredibly low level investment, just because I want to paint something that doesn't immediately depress/enrage me by association) in the past few months I've had a look for a similar online community. Maybe everywhere is quieter it was, but the failed search for anything similar to D.net has brought into stark focus just how special the site is. By far the best conversations and community I've found and for a while enjoyed being a regular part of.

Apologies for the OT ramble. Hope 1 and 2 are tenuously enough connected to explain why I've posted this here. Meant in peace, with respect.

As one of the more recent members, I still check the website frequently! I've only been playing Warhammer for about 6 months and as my group's interest in the game waxes and wanes, so does mine, so perhaps I am not quite as active as I could be.

That said, it is my experience that whenever I have a question or want to chat about anything Dark Elves related, there's a response within a day, and I would be loathe to lose that! Thanks to all the work of the mods to keep this site running, I definitely would not have been nearly as capable a general or painter without it.

Presumably Daeron or Calisson could confirm with actual numbers, but to me it doesn't feel like our posts-per-day average has declined any further over the last year. So maybe we just have to accept that this rate of interaction is the new normal. This very thread seems to have resulted in a little 'dead cat bounce', funnily enough.

I say we wait and see what GW does with aelves in AoS. I suspect we may start to see an uptick in interest here once we start to seem relevant to the modern game again. It's pretty clear that 9th Age and Kings of War just don't have the following (compared to official GW games) to carry us. If we can adapt to the new AoS aelven factions as they appear and make ourselves known on the more general AoS sites like The Grand Alliance, then I still think we can make a comeback.

I'd be happy to continue 8th ed discussions ;)
And AoS for that matter... but I do miss a good Aelf faction for AoS. I suppose I could give our Dark Exiles another shot and see how they play.

Don't kill it! Too much wisdom and inspiration still to be discovered. I really like Reds argument to start structure it better like a library to enjoy the old stuff. For example the Druchii monthly magazine, I did only find 3 or 4 but loved to read it.

I agree new content is not so active but I still like to follow the lone PLOG that appear sometimes. Also like to participate more coming months

Yea, don't put the round in the skull just yet. Im tipping when the Aelf faction finally gets a bit of love, there will be a rise in members and activity again... that and I want to finish my current Armies on Parade PLOG n do another one :P

but seriously, the other elf forums are way more dead than Druchii!

I think we run the new forum for at least 12 months in tandem and get it off the ground before we consider doing anything with Druchii.net

12 months?
9th Age will have delivered the new DE rules (without the fluff) before that.

The activity in the DE section of the 9th Age forum has declined quite a lot, too. Everyone already cried out all tears he got, accepted DE are as they are and is patiently waiting for the update. So I don't even think this site is stealing too much activity from us. There is just not that much urge for activity in general. *shrug*

The thing is activity is fuelled by cannon, fluff, advertising and hype, right now there is none of that going on. I'm really interested in the Malerion story arc, I want to know more about the Tenbrael Shard but there is only so much conjecture and eager speculation we can throw about. Once there is more written, things will pick up! Remember we have gone from a system 30yrs in the making to a system still in its infancy. I also love how the characters I have now (role play wise) were raise hearing all about the exploits of Malerion and Lokhir from the age of legend.. and attempting to carve out their own legacy in the current time

I, too, missed this websites' heyday as I didn't jump on DE until late in 8th (about a year before the 8th DE release IIRC). Even then, the forum was rife with activity.

However I've moved on to T9A, and unsurprisingly all the activity for that is over on their forums. To my mind, Dnet benefited from the fact that there wasn't an official forum (as did all racial boards for that matter) - if you wanted to discuss WH, you either went to that hive of scum and villainy known as warseer, or you went to your army's own forum. For good or ill, T9A sucks up all T9A discussion onto their own boards.

I pretty much only check here now during work hours as T9A is blocked at my office!

Haha good job getting it blocked ;)
I would definately be interested in following AOS reports, PLOG's, background stories and fluff. Especially about fluff and background stories I always considered Games Workshop an inspirational one.

I have also moved on to the 9th age, but I remain a Druchii always, and will mix my roots with the new world / civilization that will be designed for us there. As Clockwork said, the 9th age Dread Elf community is pretty active and our activity takes place on their forum. I Most new 9th age players don't check in here I guess. I checked in at Ulthuan yesterday, and they also seem to be regularly active like us. I do check in daily and have enough to get inspiration from painting wise, it is mainly the gaming and tactical content that I miss nowadays.

But there are still many situations Druchii.net offers me that the 9th age can not offer me: tactical wisdom based on years of experience. Although different and community made, it is the same game Warhammer Fantasy, and the same concepts and basic strategies apply. For example, I want to start playing with my Dragon competitive and also with 30 crossbowmen, relative under-discussed topics on the 9th age. Here and on Ulthuan I can literally find hundreds of hours of tactical wisdom based on gaming experience. I also find that often the best inspiration comes from old times, several editions ago, both gaming and painting.

On my painting updates here I get usually response. I stopped putting gaming updates besides the battle reports such as list building, but actually, I also get usually response on those. So maybe there are a lot more lurkers than we think, that will be drawn into the open as long as those that actually play and paint share their experiences and work.

So on a personal note, thank you all for replying, it makes me want to come back again and again to keep sharing :D

T9A forum is very active indeed.
Where fate is not sealed is whether we succeed to define what is the added value of D.net.

Tactical archives have been mentioned.
I would imagine that the atmosphere is an added value too, where T9A has a neutral website, compared to our own dark inspired one.
Also, the vocation to discuss dark elven things across several games should be an asset.

As a learning 8th Edition player I would be very sad if Druchii.net went away
