Pff the Cauldron of Blood is finally reaching its end. I think I had to repaint it about three times, as every time I was not satisfied with the colour scheme or look in comparison to the unit. I am now finishing the crew and the last highlight so hope to finish it tomorrow.

I have also been building a lot lately to build more dancers of yema. They are now completed and I am painting them now (total of 25), also hope to finish them this week.

This leaves me with only the Dark Riders and latest touches on Shades for next week, just in time to complete the army before sunday 26 march.

I also painted the unit fillers, here they are with 5 dancers I completed today (white highlights are still missing)

@Lord Drakon - I really like revisiting this topic, your army has a very unique feel. Your upgraded painting scheme is very nice, the converted RBTs on chariots are just awesome. And I love those hammers on your Gladiators :)

Thank you!

I feel the pictures are bit too bright, maybe it is a combination of sunny daylight and white background. But, I finished the Cauldron of Blood / Divine Altar with BSB!

Divine Altar
Image

As you can see its a double-decker Altar, with two cauldrons instead of one, for twice the fun and sacrifice potential ;)

I am also working hard to finish 29 Dancers of Yema. It is mostly painting metal which is great, then shields in the centre some NMM gold to provide contrast and when I finished all of them I will give them a white highlight which will make all the difference to let them really shine I hope. This is already an impression how it is going to look!

EDIT: this might be a clearer picture

I have to second Cultofkhaine comment - two cauldrons on the Altar are awesome and the whole thing looks just great in the fully ranked unit. And those banners ! Man, they are really cool !

The only way it could be better is if the top Cauldron overflowed into the bottom one in a cascade of blood...

Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

This update will need some background story. As you might know I created the story of Lord Drakon, commander of Har Ganeth who was betrayed by Malekith and therefore started a rebellion against the corrupt parts of Druchii society. In order to understand you should also know the 6th edition Cold One Knights and now Dancers (Gladiatiors) of Yema. Apologies for the english I just copied it from what I wrote 5 years ago when I created the first ten of these knights on foot. (http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=72389)

"Shadowblade, loyal servant to Hellebron and therefore supporter of the rebellion against Malekith started by Lord Drakon found out that the cold one knights of Har Ganeth were corrupted. With the promise of control over the city after a assassination of Lord Drakon and his executioners they were planning to pledge a coup. Tullaris and his elite corps reacted direct and started to execute all knights, only to be stopped by Lord Drakon himself. As he respected the fighting skill and royalty earned in the time of Aenarion, he showed mercy. Honour demanded that they all had to die, but he gave them a choice. Die under the blade of the executioners, or die in the battlefield to regain their honour and save the lives of their families. Most knights chose the latter and swore loyalty to the city of Har Ganeth and Lord Drakon himself. Thus a new band of brothers were founded, they called theirselves: the Gladiators of Yema"

My all time favourite unit: Druchii Gladiators!

I took some time but happy with the result. Was also great to paint these models, they just look so epic unfamiliar to our other elite infantry because of their heavy armour knight look. I love this 6th edition Druchii noble look, even more than the epic executioners.
At the end I tried to put some more colour contrast in the models. Also painted the shields red to give a certain glow, I actually like it and also gives more unifying effect in the army. Then fluffwise Romans also had red shields so might apply the same to the Legionnaires.

I think I have a new favourite conversion

I am working on my last unit for the army, a second unit of Dark Riders.

As you might know all my Dark Riders and Shades have an Assassin Creed look / theme.

Here is the first one:
Image

Image

As you can see I upgraded their repeater crossbows, I did the same to all other dark riders and shades in the army, hopefully it will increase their shooting at the tournament ;)

The other four dark riders all have specific conversions to give them some extra character, to be updated soon!

I finished the unit of Dark Riders! Note the symbolic bird for the goal of this unit ;)
Image

I really like how they turned out. I was planning on describing each of the Dark Rider models character but I will do it later maybe. As scavengers of my army they usually capture fleeing enemy units and then they hang them as you can see :P An unworthy empire militant is grasping for his last breaths.
Image

You can't see it clearly in this picture but the most right Dark Rider is also the messenger of the XIII Legion. He has a carrier pigeon and several pieces of writing material to send to allied forces or back to the main force. As I already showed before with another Dark Rider model one of the worthless Empire militants was a coward and tried to run away instead of being hanged after he saw his sergeant choking to death. Ofcourse he did not made a chance and is easily pierced by a deadly Druchii spear.
Image

My guess that all you fine Druchii gentleman would like a close up of the dying militant. Pity, they make such a joyful noise when hanged.. Also note the Dwarven head as trophy.
Image

Those two to the right are my favourite conversions, I especially like the messenger who is about to obliterate some enemies with both spear and bolt.
Image

With this unit of Dark Riders I complete my second army for a tournament. Its great to see that I started this PLOG with my Dark Riders only to finish painting them now after several years. I still have countless unpainted units and models so the XIII will be growing! For now I present to you:

A combination of the Roman Legion that just returned from conquest in Arabia, led into battle by Spartan centurions and even Perseus himself. Even better, they have the support of a lot of specialists from the Assassins Creed!

The XIII Legion
Image

Fun fact: 11 animals included in this army
- Horse
- Cold One Raptor
- Zebra
- Monkey
- Baby Manticore
- Eagle
- Owl
- Cheetah
- Medusa (only the head, but that's the only important part)
- Vulture
- Carrier Pigeon

12 if you include the lion ;)

Greetings!

I have been off painting since the last tournament and only several battles since then, but I have another bloodstorm mini in two weeks! So a lot of painting in short time.

My army is going to be

1 Oracle, Alchemy, Ring of Fire
1 Cult Priest, BSB, Executioners Blade

25 Legionnaires, Champion, Standard, Flaming Standard, Spears
13 Blades of Nabh

10 Dancers of Yema
1 Raptor Chariot
1 Dread Reaper
5 Harpies
1 Cyclops (for free)

Image

I still need to paint 5 Harpies, 1 Chariot and still need to build and paint 1 Cyclops, 3 Blades of Nabh and 1 BSB Cult Priest (without armour).

So you can expect some updates next two weeks!

Re: [PLOG] Har Ganeth XIII Legion

Post by Lord Drakon »

So I left my paints and brushes for a looong time after the last industrial painting work for the bloodstorm in March. Last sunday I played at the new Bloodstorm (Beastwars). 2000 points and the option to bring 1 beast (cyclops, bloodbeast and vortex fiend). Already by reading the rules pack I got the idea for my Cyclops, as I bought that awesome giant kit about 10 years ago with the idea to convert him to giant Executioner elf or something.

However, while I played several battles last months I really did absolutely nothing painting wise. Even with one week left I had to paint all my new stuff. So I planned two days and ofcourse the evenings to finish it, when my brother needed help with moving, so actually no time left at all. Last week was really intense, using every spare moment I got to paint, but I succeeded in finishing my units on time (also painting deep in the night, the day before the tournament). Here are the results.

I got all 12 possible points for painting, and 3 out of 34 picked my army as coolest army so I am happy what I produced with the extremely limited time. This has also motivated me to paint regular again as it is awesome to just be creative and make these models come to life. One of the things I really enjoyed was making the jungle base for the giant. I was already planning to make my second army jungle based, but I will also experiment some with my Elves. Again I need to mention my friend @DeGroteBaas whose armies are an inspiration, and his jungle bases for his Saurians are absolutely stunning. He is also my biggest gaming nemesis so it is time to include some dead skinks etc. in my bases!

Ah well, enough talk: here are the pictures!
