Alternative War Hydra model

Post by Bobba Looba »

Hi all,
I wanted to use this space to show off some recent work.
I know this forum isn't too active at the moment, but it seemed like the best place to post it.

It's a plastic toy, found at a garage sale and repainted as a war hydra.
I later found out it is made by manufacturer Safari Ltd. You can see it in it's original glorious purple-silver state here: https://store.safariltd.com/products/my ... nes-802029

I removed some large fins on it's legs and it had a bit of an awkward position, so I repositioned it with a rock made of polystyreen.
Also, it doesn't have any hind legs so it rests on it's tail. Other than that, the model is actually really decent. It's pretty detailed and the mold lines are barely noticable.
The scale is almost perfect.

I feared the paint wouldn't stick on the softer plastic, but it actually holds pretty well. You can see some purple spots where the sprayed on base coat would stick, even after I thourougly washed and degreased it, but that's about it.

In the end a great little project. It started out as a bit of a joke, but in the end and in my opinion it came out really neat. I will definitely use it on the battlefield.

I don't know who to contact or how to proceed, but I figured it could even be added to the list of alternative models on the Ninth Age website.

What do you think?

Thanks all. The model is indeed nice. If you look closely, you'll find some clear indications that it is mass produced. The heads are all the same, for example. But you'd have to know it to see that.

That just makes it more impressive!
The fact that you can turn a random toy designed for mass production into something that epic is a sign of a true artist.
