The way I see it (and I could be wrong) is: before anything check for Frenzy (if targets in range), if you pass charge what you want/or not, if you fail charge the closest..

In my last game I ran 40 RHB corsairs followed close by couldron BSB. Got charged by 19 ironbreakers with a rune lord. Killed 5 ironbreakers on S&S and 4 more in close combat - including champion (had +5 ward blessing in this round).. in response he killed enough to make it a close race for CR, ...

You can also send in the Slavs (usually people from Balkan and Russia)... They will get the job done too...
