The SkaerKrow ; Dark Elves are the jack of all trades, and with the new book Jack started using steriods. I would reserve your statement to armies like Warriors of Chaos who are very limited in the ways of making a competitive build. They're not a Jack of All Trades army by any stretch of the imagi...

Dark Elves are Scissors. If your local meta-game involves a lot of Paper, you'll be at quite an advantage. On the other hand, if you're in a Rock heavy environment, prepare to struggle.

If you're going in against Daemons and Vampire Counts, especially in a very competitive setting, then you need Black Guard. It cannot be overemphasized how important Immunity to Psychology is against armies that rely largely on Fear, Terror and Panic in order to deal with you. A large unit of Black ...

The list has some potential, though for my tastes you're lacking in hammers and/or flanking units. Dark Riders or Cold One Knights would fill these roles nicely, counter-charging units that are already stuck in against your Executioners or Black Guard. I understand that the second Sorceress necessit...

As your BSB is mounted, I'd give him a Halberd. You're essentially forcing yourself to Always Strike Last for no reason, as both options give mounted characters +1 Strength.

Drafting my Tournament List for 2010...

I had considered trying to get an entirely new army ready for tournament season this year, as I've run Dark Elves for two years straight, but I'd rather play my Dark Elves while working on something else. That way I won't have to learn a new army while facing the wrong end of other people's tourname...

deathknight27: Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post in such a detailed fashion. I'd like to point out that Khainites become Immune to Panic , not Psychology. It's actually a very minor boost. I...really can't say that I agree with your assessment of the changes to the army. Khainites wo...

I'll just pick out a couple of points, since the discussion seems to have taken on a life of its own... Yes, Weapon Skill 5 Corsairs. If the worst thing that I do is give us Core infantry that hits most things on 3s (with Strength 3 attacks), then I'm in good shape . You can't drop the Hydra down to...

I agree that it seems odd to have Terror causing Cold One Knights, though the Dark Elf book already has many ways to bring Terror to the table. Indeed, I believe that only the Skaven rival them in that capacity. Truth be told, in its current incarnation the Dread Banner seems like a strange inclusio...

My rationale behind the various changes... Khainite The whole "Khainite" angle seems to lack punch in this edition. If you're going to do a sect of murdering killers, you need something that makes them stand out. While being Immune to Panic isn't the most overly impressive rule in the worl...

SkaerKrow's Dark Elf Patch/Errata

Mods, I don't know if we have a specific forum for this sort of thing, so I posted it here. Feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place. Out of boredom and my undying love for the Druchii, I've decided to try my hand at fixing up the current Dark Elf army book. The intent is to tone down some no...

Yes, a damned resilient STUBBORN Master (or Dreadlord) on foot, who, with the assistance of a magic item, two pieces of mundane armor and an entirely different unit selection, can potentially hold up a single enemy unit. I'm sorry, I'm not exactly blown away by that idea, especially considering that...

You can have my Pendant when you give me back my Crown of Black Iron and Heartstone of Darkness. Until then, I really don't care what my opponent thinks of it. A great many people complain about anything that they can, just to deflect the blame of a loss away from themselves. The Pendant happens to ...

Blood Armor (Magic Armor)- 10pts
Heavy Armor. The wearer of Blood Armor gains the Khainite rule.
Characters on Foot Only.

That's what I was thinking when I suggested it. Nothing earth shattering, just a way to get a non-Assassin into a unit of Executioners or Witch Elves.

Hydras are creatures of Chaos. I think it'd be far more questionable for them to have a uniform appearance than it would for clutchmates to show variety in their coloration.

Paint it a different color, for certain.

Lakissov pretty much nailed it with his assessment of the army. Most Dark Elf builds are readily seen off by opponents who have the sense to play aggressively and punch/counter-punch the Dark Elf forces. Otherwise, Dark Elves suffer badly in any sort of battle of attrition. Our forces aren't particu...

Anticipate 8th Edition to arrive in Summer of 2010, probably following the same release schedule that we saw with 40K 5th Edition (new book in midsummer, with the new starter boxed set released in early fall.)

The rumors that I've seen indicate that there will be a fairly large cross-section of plastic cavalry kits released for multiple armies, as well as some new rules that may or may not be part of a test-bed for the changes that we'll see in 8th Edition.

If you have that forethought and board control then you shouldn't be hurt in a second round. Incorrect. Protecting one's flanks does not nullify the lack of synergy that comes from a T3, 5+ AS unit that Always Strikes Last. While you can mitigate that by attempting to use your own flank support to ...

All units that don't hold an ASF banner suffer in a second round of combat because of retaliation charges. Also, you don't break units by lining up your executioners and slamming them right into the front... see: Assuming that you've allowed your opponent to set-up a retaliation charge. Some of us ...

I wouldn't participate in such an event. If GW made these changes in an errata I may be fine with them (though I should hope that the other books would be equally gimped), but otherwise, no thanks. I know too many Warhammer fans to trust fan rules initiatives, at this point.
