I really want to try using the assassin in my list and even thought of running 2 of them as the possible devastation that can be done with 1 gets even better with 2. Would 1 be worth it or better yet, would 2 be even more worth it?

A BSB is not essential because dark elves do have good LD, but in my experience it helps a lot. Because one bad dice roll and you could lose that one key unit. I run only one master, he's on a dark Pegasus and I make him my BSB. It's not optimal because he's usually flying around, but it's only 25 ...
