I actually like blocks of corsairs with handxbows. I use 3 ranks of 6, and find that they work great as anchor units. They roll up, shoot at the foe, then are ready to shoot again when the foe charges and likely strike first with their I5. Sure they're not a game-breaker, but 2 opportunities of hand...

A beefed up unit of Cold One Knights won't work because he'll challenge someone and beat that someone into the dirt. Just make the unit challenge avoiding. No champion and no character. No way to hide in challenge. Though I agree with the others. Shooting is best if you have to take it down. Otherw...

Basically, dig out all the campaign material GW wrote before 7th edition made players lazy. Make your opponents fight their way across the Warhammer World and put the fear of Isha into them. Absolutely correct. Scenario objectives and creative terrain favor the general rather than the army. And mak...

Pfft. I'd be upset if i was a new player and folks felt the need to tinker with my army book in order to "compete". Just figure out how to beat them and do so. As for changes that could help the games, think less about changing "broken rules" and more about all the other factors ...

Druchii language and the Moons

Okay, so odd question.

The fluff of the warhammer world is that there are two moons Mannslieb and Morrslieb. And I've found dwarf names for them.

Are there dark elf names for the two moons? Am I dense and not seeing it in the books or online?

Cheers.

Very good article. Maybe mention the different magic banners that the unit itself can carry as an upgrade to the unit. War Banner, Banner of Murder, and Banner of Cold Blood can all be useful to them, but in different ways and roles.

Thanks for the comments. The hydra does seem tempting, but I'm trying to restrain myself. This event is to lure in new players to the game (mostly some 40k folk who are finally making the transition). So a bit of me feels like I shouldn't encourage OTT army lists. Hehe. Great point about the Ring of...

Halloween Event - 500 points

So my local store is having a special halloween event. Each player (there will be about 20 spread across a massive board) gets 500 points. There is a central "opposition" of zombies and ghoul units that will be roaming around, plus a necromancer in the central tower of the board. Victory p...

I'm a fan of Death supplementing a shooting army. Doom and Darkness has a low casting cost, and can wreak havok when paired with a 25% panic test from some decent shooting of crossbows and RBT. The rest of the lore has plenty of magic missiles, so even with an unlucky couple of spells it's still use...

Re: What kind of list do you play?

- Mass Infantry, Horde (Suicide Elves): mostly warriors. Our humble warriors are better than any other core infantry and much cheaper than any secial infantry. This army list makes good use of Static Combat Resolution. This, with absolutely no magic offense--just magic defense (Ring of miscasts, +1...

I'd say you can remove the musician from the knights and Black Guard, if the Knights draw a combat they're already screwed and may be better off fleeing sometimes. And the BG are stubborn, they dont really need it. This gives enough points to give your knights a standard, which is much more usefull...

Hm, curious. Did you seal the edges of a single slice of thick cardboard? Or did you use many stacked pieces of thin card (i.e. from cereal boxes, etc.)? It looks like the latter (near the back of the enclosure, for instance), but wanted to ask.

Cheers.

Too small in my opinion. Single mega-unit armies mean that your opponents can pick you apart if they are maneuverable. Consider a bretonnian list that just fields heaps of knights of the realm. Each wedge can waste a hydra fairly easily, then be free to circle and join the main group on a combined c...

Full 4 ranks for me. I find that static combat resolution tends to be the best asset either of these units can bring. I'd search around for a few more points if you could, as 5x5 (units of 25 models) are much better at keeping their full bonus despite enemy magic/shooting. Have to lose 6 models to g...

I'd just suggest regular versions of characters in most lists that are under 3k points (as one person suggested with Malekith). Having a bit more options and less concentration of points in a single unit is desirable in my opinion.

I would only neglect mundane armor if the points were make-or-break with getting some other unit into the force. Otherwise, I just assume the cost is part of fielding the character appropriately.

Small groups of elite troops

I've noticed that in a number of sample army lists, people have included what I consider to be very small blocks of elite troops--particularly black guard in stands of 10 models. Just wanted to ask why people find that to be effective and how they best use a unit so small. Just as a supporting charg...

Dominating the magic phase can be very potent, and a level 4 lord is usually an essential part of such a list. The trick is to think of your magic phase as a "combined arms" sort of approach. It's not just having the big brute caster Lord choice... It's about having a number of supporting ...

I'd just prefer that official FAQs are the only modifications to the rules at a tournament. An organizer may start with good intentions, but will be biased in certain ways just due to experience alone (i.e. he or she has seen one brutal unit, hasn't seen another). So ad hoc trying to "balance&q...
