Even a compact unit of 5 or 7 can be powered up with the use of the Hydra Banner. With that in the unit, you get a bonus to combat res, to your s6 attacks, and it helps prevent you falling prey to failed Stupid checks. If you're considering using that unit as a strong hammer in 1500+ points I would ...

Typically, I always field my BSB with the Hydra Banner and full mundane gear in with a unit of Knights. The knights themselves have the Banner of Hag Graef. This strengthens the unit considerably because an extra attack at s6 is golden. And yes, you could argue that you could do the same thing with ...

Good man for not taking the shades more than 7 men in a unit. Shade stars have really taken a beating with the stupid stick in 8th ed. As for the assassins, sometimes the threat of an assassin is scarier than anything he could actually throw at them. For example, is that 40 man unit of spearmen with...

Basically, I see no reason as to why you can't steal a numerical advantage out from under him if you have lots of warriors, and most of his infantry blocks have weak enough defensive stats to be wrecked up on the counterattack. If I had to name a flaw in this list, it would be the fact it feels more...

There is a way of dealing with this without relying on broken things, you just need a 14 man unit of knights, or a BSB with the Hydra Banner in the unit. Or a CoB, or All of the above!! You can easily stack it so there will be 4 attacks ber knight to the front rank. Not counting champions or steeds,...

The black amulet has, in my opinion, been something of a pariah in the last edition. Granted, talisman of preservation does something similar for cheaper. But now consider throwing a dreadlord on a pegasus, great weapon, full armor, the amulet, and crown of command into the biggest and heaviest deat...

First of all, why the hell is Tethlis one of Malekith's personal guard!? lol jk When I run knights, I take a unit of 6 with a BSB (Hydra Banner) and the banner of Hag Graef. This lets me get in an astonishing 17 S6 attacks with hatred, and a further 14 S4 attacks from the steeds. In practice, this u...

Kinda depends on what you gave your master, but I agree. Without the extra shooting or heavy magic, it seems likely that monsters like Steg or Hydra will level you.

I'm not sure that using LoS is really the best way to deal with infantry, just with the sheer points cost and unreliability of buff spells. If I was facing that many flail-armed marauders I would probably want to have packed a lot of shooting to thin up their ranks a little. If shooting isn't really...

First off, I've used that combo with the knights and the BSB before and it is indeed deadly and reliable. I've smashed my way through even ranked-up units of chaos warriors and saurus with a similar combo. Definitely keep them. However, I can definitely see that the opinion of the group is that a CO...

My current army has 2 masters in it. BSB on a Cold one, HA, Lance, Shield, Hydra banner. Role: Support (surprise!!) The point of this guy is to use his banner to soup up his body guard of 6 knights. On the charge, thanks to this banner, they inflict a preposterous 17 s6 attacks, before mounts!! The ...

Consider the Lifetaker for dealing with skirmishers, because you will basically be causing a panic check every turn... Even if it's not entire sufficient to wipe him out! Also, if you focus fire with the bolt throwers at his big beasties it seems likely the gutter runners will show up too late anywa...

Well first of all, you've done pretty much everything right, nothing silly. Exec's and witches are all in good rank formations, and the shades are a good unit size. Only problem is that sorceress combined with RoH... The ring will indeed protect your static troop line without your sorceress blowing ...

Yeah, frankly that looks pretty hardcore for 1000 points. Presumably you plan on lots of march blocking? Because you have more than enough there to hold the enemy up for a whole game, AND shoot at them painfully.

Well, you're not especially unlikely to get the charge off vs knights using a chariot more than your CoK's. They have the same charge range, after all. The important thing to think about is the versatility of CoC's vs knights. For starters, they can shoot. Secondly strength 5 hits and strength 6 wil...

Lol this sounds to me kinda like the classic hammer and anvil strategy, between the hydra and the chariots. All in all, this sounds pretty good, as pretty much all of your battle line can take a charge or launch a charge equally well. I'm not sure about dark riders though. Are you using them for mar...

Well that is true, you do indeed have to be very careful about what targets you pick and where. But against larger armies or those composed mainly of infantry, it hasn't been a problem yet. The reason I bring so much magic is because I often need it for offensive purposes to bolster my shooting, tha...

That would probably be because I won't know what kind of army I'll be facing until deployment, so I can't go around changing things. The point of those knights is to give me options AFTER deployment.

2000 Points, "Balanced" List

The whole theme of this list is really something I imagined DE to be really good at - Magical Pirates! I called them the Red Corsairs because they wear rare red sea dragon cloaks into battle, as a symbol of status. As such I brought a lot of magic into this and spent FAR less on my core in order to ...

Crazy Idea for cheap shades!

Hey I'm wondering if I'm the only person who thought of this, shades are super expensive so you might like the idea anyway. What I did was get many hands on a box of Rangers of middle earth from the LOTR war hammer range and cut off their bows. Once I had done that, I just replaced the entire hand w...

Oh, that's not what i meant by "with a unit" I meant like, standing next to them, but not actually JOINING the unit. Think about it, this way if your enemy wanted to shoot, this way they could only target a single assassin at a time. The shades are there because they're actually better tha...

Hmmm, personally, I think you're going about this the wrong way. If you can go to the effort of ensuring that your sorceress probably isn't going to be hit, you can then give arcane items which max out their strengths. What I would do is put her somewhere near the back with an RBT, or maybe a unit o...
