The more dependencies the unit has, the easier it is to destroy. For instance, the HE player just needs to use one siphon life on the BSB, and suddenly the unit has lost that edge. One pit of shades and the cauldron is gone in the blink of the eye... Even though I'd like to think of such a unit as ...

The Lions are better, aye, but with a Cauldron buff the Execs are real solid with 5+ Ward and stubborn. The KB is sometimes more of a gimmick, but only because we kill enemy characters anyway with S6 and Hatred. It's a very good tactic to direct all attacks against enemy characters if they are stup...

About other races being able to do the same thing cheaper, that is not really true (in most cases). Yes there are cheaper deathstars, but when you put this unit against pretty much any of those deatstars it will come out on top. the combined power of hatred and the extra attacks from cauldron and S...

Well, I've just played my first full scale battle with my fledgeling Dark Elf army andall I can say is... Wow! My orc enemy threw a troll, a boar chariot and twenty boyz with war boss at my executioner horde and it was carnage! I think i lost four men, his troll died, the chariot lost all but one w...

I have used this exact unit in quite a few games now. I think that it has the most raw damage potential by itself than anything else in the Dark Elf army, baring Mindrazor or what have you. Lately though I have been more cautious using them. Someone said in a previous post that this unit is not a po...

Having looked over the ETC's list of adjustments in the first post, I'm a little confused how they arrived at these decisions. It parts of it read like a list of someone's pet biases and hates. In my experience, Beastmen and High Elves do just fine and don't need extra points and power dice in their...

grimgor strikes first. and, being orcs, probably gets deployed later, meaning he can place grimgor opposite to your deathhag. Couldn't you just move the Death Hag to the opposite end of the unit in your movement phase? That way the ASF enemy character will be on the wrong end and he can't Make Way!...

Here is a continuation of my conversation with Gav. Gav wrote: I can’t take all of the credit for the Sparta and Athens angle, as that was passed on to me by Rick Priestley. The problem, as I see it, is that the Dark Elves are not Batman or the Count of Monte Cristo, because they really have got lit...

Where did you get the bit about merchants listening to wailing of dead slaves as a lullaby from? It's in the description of Karond Kar (or whatever the slaves first arrive). Dark Elf merchant lords put magic bones in their rooms so they can listen to screaming all night. Like white-noise, but evil....

The Count of Monte Cristo was hardly evil. He was a man who suffered a grave injustice and, during his weakest moment, vowed revenge upon those who had wronged him. While his methods were both subtle and effective, he took pains to ensure only those who wronged him were brought to ruin and went out...

My conversation with Gav: Dark Elves and "cartoon evil&
For those of you who were not aware, former GW designer Gav Thorpe has a wonderful Q&A on his work with the Dark Elves on his blog. m A while back, I asked him a question about some background material that has interested me for a while. I wanted to share it with you and hear your opinions on th...

Re: Ideas for homebrew Dark Elf revision?
Putting a limit of 2 or 3 models killed with the Sacrificial Dagger and upping its point cost should make it more reasonable (Your chick can't possibly be stabbing 6 guys in the heart in that magic phase that quickly!). Just to put things things into perspective, there are armies with a similar abi...

These are great! Screw the haters. I really like looking at new and unique conversions with different takes on existing models. Even though my army is painted up to a pretty decent standard (I'll have to post them up here some time), I have converted almost nothing. Everything is stock GW standard. ...

I was thinking about putting the Mask of EEE! on my Black Guard champion to make him cause terror. This would give me a chance to run off a unit I'm charging and subsequently have the possibility of decreasing the enemy's WS to 1. Does anyone know if the WS decrease due to fear only applies to the f...

Interestingly enough, I have been trying to come up with a Khanite army. Like others have mentioned before, include at least one of each variety of Khanite units. In my list I have Witch Elves, Executioners, A Cauldron of Blood, an Assassin, and Harpies. I also included a unit of Cold One Knights wi...

1750 Tourney List
I'm part of a friendly tournament at my local gaming store. It's scaled to add 250 points every week. This week, it's 1750. Let me know what you think. Core 20 Corsairs, full command, Sea Serpent Standard (250 pts) 10 Repeater Crossbowmen, musician (105 pts) 5 Dark Riders, rxbows, musician (117 pts)...
