Not sure about a 1000pt army, but at 1500 I found a hero was incredibly necessary, if only for taking out ethereals. They're uncommon, but a Vamp with wraiths (or the black coach) becomes invincible because you have one unit that can tear through all of your troops. I would drop a unit of crossbows,...

No-one cares if corsairs get into combat because they are only S-3 with 2 attacks. This is on the assumption that you're throwing it at titans and expecting them to survive. With 8th edition, far more of the people around me seem willing to take weaker but larger units. Corsairs on Skeletons, for e...

I don't currently run a CoB, but I want to for one reason - witch elves. 3 attacks (dual weapon plus frenzy), poison weapons, upgrades to better poisons through the hag plus the usual Dark Elf advantages (initiative and hatred). Not to mention awesome miniatures (the hag with the dagger behind her b...

Ever since I last played against the Vampire Counts, all my lists give at least one champion a low level magic weapon (Relic Sword is my favourite at the moment) just to deal with ethereal opponents so I don't have to get my general's hands dirty all the time.

Is a feedback scroll worth it these days? It seems to me anyone rolling enough dice to suffer from feedback is probably rolling enough dice for a miscast, which is just as likely to take them out. As feedback only affects rolls of 5+, there's a higher chance that this roll will also be a miscast...

Thanks Vulcan, that was awesome... Bit the bullet and bought a unit of Black Guard, and will probably have to buy another Battalion box any way, if only because I want a decent number of crossbow units and corsairs. But that Glade-rider conversion is very tempting. I've seen some people ignore the R...

I have a similar query about the Black Coach. By the time he got into combat he was ethereal, leaving either my general or my sorceress to try and take it down. I went with my general, only to be taken down by killing blow, but not before him taking out the unit of Cold One Knights that went wit the...

About the crossbows taking on the undead. Yes... he tried repeatedly to raise the ghouls and black knights and did get off about one a round, but the one thing my sorceress was able to do, because of the black coach sucking dice out of the power pool, was to dispel his raise dead spells.

Played my first game with Dark Elves at 1500 pts last night and have to say the RXB were my one saving grace. Played against Vampire Counts and everyone else took massive hits. Warriors were taken out by Grave Guard, Corsairs were defeated by ghouls. Cold One Knights and my Dreadlord were killed to ...

Remember that the Dark Elves were once High Elves. While the books and the community play with Dark Elves in Dark Colours, there is no reason that certain Dark Elves didn't hold on to their old armour when they were exiled. I have seen several Golden Demon entrant Dark Elves that paint Dark Elves in...

1500pt Dark Elf Army - 1st Army

Hi guys, Novice player looking for feedback on my first list. I have a limited range of miniatures available, so it really restricts what I can do. The only miniatures I have not in the army are 10 Witch Elves and a Dreadlord on foot. ======= Lord: Dreadlord (254 pts) - Cold One mount - Shield, Drag...

Thanks Loki. That sounds like what I wanted... Unfortunately I'm living in a part of the world (Macau, near Hong Kong) where ordering by post is notoriously unreliable. I once ordered a year worth of guitar magazines and received exactly 2 out of 12. I play music as well, and music companies flatly ...

Some of the Corsair figures, at least the old ones, actually had sea dragon claws hanging off the end. The best picture I could find was this: m By the size of the claw, I would guess that the sea dragon wasn't extraordinarily big, at least by dragon standards... I always thought the old cloaks look...

Alternative models for beginning army

Hi guys, Novice player and just beginning to build my Dark Elf army, and trying to watch my budget. I'm trying to buy plastics to try and keep the cost down, but there are some models that obviously don't have plastic boxes and I would have to buy metals. So, I want some advice. The place I'm living...

I don't see a problem, but then again I don't play 40K so I don't see any similarities. Officially the book has a caption that mentions that Cold Ones are variations of green, but I got bored of that and made a one red as well. I figured he was affected by chaos by wandering around the Northern wast...

Not sure which side this makes the debate swing, but the 8th edition states that the Dark Elves are allied with the armies of destruction, but are regarded as too untrustworthy to form any strong alliances. This would seem to indicate that even if they have made pacts with the gods of Chaos, even th...
