The problem with fire, is you'd have to take a lvl 4 to give you a reasonable shot at getting that one spell, and then you're stuck with three other spells that are just so so. Shadow can net you the same results, in addition to giving you 3 other pretty good spells. My casters typically go: lvl 4 w...

In general, my oppinion is that a good player makes better use of more units. While smaller units can be fragile they give a player strategic options few big doesn't. To try to get the best out of my army I therefore play 2x10 over 1x20 rpx in all games (unless some scenariorule would benefit a sin...

Heh, I think I just play against more power gamey opponents than most here. triple s5 stone throwers + all GW dwarven armies, double hellcannon, double gw khorne marauders, 20+ nurgle frenzy halberdiers, Manfred VC magic spam, I don't face any lists where shooting is remotely useful. My condolences...

...or hit the crossbows with word of pain or chillwind, then see what happens. I think the problem with the comparison is that ballistic skill troops are completely outlclassed by template weapons now, meaning the difference between empire shooters and DE ones is almost moot. Go big with DE units a...

If your opponent is spending all of his shooting targeting your RXB and leaving your corsairs, hydras, chariots, CoKs alone, then I do believe that's a pretty good trade off... In a straight battle, where there's NO other variables other than two units of missile troops shooting each other, yes, the...

Against Empire RXB are pretty useless, I use only 0-10 in a 2500 P game. How? We get the same range as any of their missile troops, except crossbows. We have a higher BS, get twice as many shots. Only advantage they have is S4 vs our S3. One withering and the playing field is leveled/put into our f...

True, charge, then in the proceeding magic phase, do nothing but make sure said unit gets mindrazor. And you're gtg.

Everything stated above. Mine have been amazing at dropping enemies like flies. In one turn, they took a charge from a unit of bloodcrushers, SnS killed one, then in combat thanks to hatred killed the other two before they even got to swing. And shields are totally worth it. For 20 points you double...

Take 2 20 man units, give them shields, standard, and musician and voila, you have a unit that is crazy good at shooting, and then BAM...quick reform and they're a decent combat unit. I run two units with that set up. If you go look at my batreps, you'll see they are always worth it. ESPECIALLY with...

The attack still has a strength, the only difference is one wounds automatically, and the other still needs to roll to wound. So the pendant would work imho.

I don't see how it's a loophole, from realistic standpoint (I know, we're talking about a fantasy world) How does a generic monstrous cavalry gain a protection that a character monstrous cavalry doesn't get? So skulltaker, who is supposed to be bigger and badder than a regular bloodcrusher, can be K...

It's preferable to put that dreadlord on a dark pegasus just to avoid KB attacks Dark Pegasus no longer avoid KB, sadly. See ya And that FAQ ruling makes no sense, pg. 72 of the BRB - "Killing blow is only effective against infantry, cavalry and warbeasts - all other creatures are considered e...

Host of Karond Kar against the Dark Legion Rd 2 PIC HEAVY

As requested, here's a report with photos! and actually it was round 4 for us, just the second one I've done a report for! Anyway, this time I actually took pictures! (not the greatest, but better than nothing) This was another 2000 point game for our escalation league, a rematch if you will. My lis...

Currently, my favorite character build is probably the most simple: Level 4 sorceress, darkstar cloak, talisman of protection, lore of shadow. Keep things simple, all you need her to do is get one big spell off a turn, and the battle swings widely in your favor. Played a game today where a last turn...

I have a simple critical reading idea to try out... Read the rule again, and tell me why they didn't include the ItP part with all the other effects section on a failed LD test? Does this structure make sense: If you failed the test, you're ItP You have to make a LD If you failed the test, Blah happ...

@Red... - that is one opinion on how it is implied, which is the fundamental flaw in using "implied" as a measure of facts. @Calisson - it's a good laugh, followed by a resounding sigh. The good part is how people can stay level headed. The sigh part is we're having this conversation...

This is a great example why I steer clear of most rules discussion forums...people just love trying to over think something. ItP is the VERY FIRST THING listed under the stupidity rule. If ItP only worked when the test is failed, why isn't it listed under all the other effects of a failed test? The ...

They just had some bad luck, if the first one would have made the charge against the horrors, it could have overrun far enough so the bloodletters couldn't charge it. Then I could have taken on that bloodletter group with both. This edition, the hydras aren't as big of a power house as people seem t...

Hmm 10 wounds against knights from a horde of 30 corsairs isn't as impressive as I had expected. It was indeed fortunate on your part he failed 5 of his 1+ AS. They were not in horde, 6x5. I had 24 attacks. Math hammer gives us: 24 attacks - 12 hits - 18 after rerolls. He had a withering on him so ...

Played a game Thursday night with a unit of 30 with ahw and SSS. They were my MVP for sure (mostly because by the end of turn 2, both my casters were sniped from lore of death!) I had them charge into a unit of 5 chaos knight, dealt 10 wounds, of which he rolled 5 1s...I know, really bad on his part...
