Re: How do you use your Darkshards?
LOL- no, they don't survive Knights & Heavy Infantry, they just kill a bunch of them- those types of units tend to get thrown right into my meaty units and main battleline, not against piddly Missile Troops who are better off being charged by solo characters or small Monsters.

How do you use your Darkshards?
I've had a solid bit of luck with mine, but they still consistently fail to see the end of the game, as SOME enemy will inevitably find and kill them (they're not great fighters). Generally speaking, I use units of 16-20, but only one per army list. Full command and that's all- they're very good at ...

Re: Best typical frontage for a unit with the Cauldron of Bl
The only thing that bothers me is that I want to base the unit properly (I have many bases already that are JUST a bit too small, resulting in an ugly-looking unit where the WE are kind of leaning funny or falling onto the CoB's base), and needing multiple kinds of facings is totally ruining that .

Re: Best typical frontage for a unit with the Cauldron of Bl
Cool stuff, thanks! So I typically use the "offensive" version. I find Hordes difficult to use and justify, especially if the opponent isn't Hording (and most of mine do so only sparingly). And I would consider going over 30 for the Witch Elves, but... it feels so risky. Adding their cost ...

Best typical frontage for a unit with the Cauldron of Blood?
Typically, I put the CoB in a unit with a frontage of 5, making it 8 models wide. This seems to leave the unit with a not-too-big Footprint, and pretty deep ranks if I go with 25 (typical for Special) or 30 (Core- generally always Witch Elves). Given the death-rate of Elves, it seems that you'd lose...

Re: Dark Elves (vs) Vampire Counts (4,000 points)
Wow- WHAT a battle! Alas, it was a little too one-sided, full of basically unfair dice-rolling. Absolutely every single combat went my way after a point, and I was pulling out ridiculous stuff. My opponent couldn't make 6+ Regenerate saves to save his life (the Engine was giving it to him), failed a...

Re: Dark Elves (vs) Vampire Counts (4,000 points)
TURNS ONE & TWO: -My Left Flank turned out very well. My Beastmaster threw out a Bolt, and despite being -3 to hit (Moved, Half-Range & Soft Cover), speared the Terrorgeist and brought it down to 3 wounds! The beast charged right into my Warlocks (who's failed their spell)... and shockingly...

Dark Elves (vs) Vampire Counts (4,000 points)
4,000 points- DARK ELVES (vs) VAMPIRE COUNTS My Army: Dreadlord (Ogre Blade, Black Amulet, Cold One) Beastmaster on Scourgerunner Chariot (5+ Ward, Chilldblade) Supreme Sorceress (Lore of Shadows, 5+ Ward, Crown of Command, Sacrificial Dagger) Death Hag on Cauldron of Blood (Witchbrew) Sorceress (Lo...

Re: What's your opinion on the Kharibdyss?
In two games: * Got one-offed by a Chaos Lord on a Manticore. Granted, that'd kill about ANYTHING. * Charged a Chaos Chariot that was fighting my Black Guard alongside some Chaos Knights (thank you Stubborn) and did a bit of damage (2 wounds I think), but failed to catch it. Then it got one-offed by...

Re: Success/Failure with CoB..progress report.
In three battles, I've seen it go GREAT (Witch Elves destroyed Swordmasters with ease), and very poorly (Executioners got nerfed to S2- S4 with Great Weapons- then effortlessly killed by Chaos Warriors). I was hoping the Frenzy & high Strength would help fight Chaos, but I utterly crapped the be...

Re: Hardest things to put together?
Putting together the new Executioners/Black Guard minis, and I'm struck by the same issue the Cold One Knights had- the body piece is cut in half THROUGH THE MIDDLE, and not only that, but the sprues are connected via the raised part on the shoulder pads. Who on EARTH thought that kind of sharp poin...

Funny unrealistic things about Warhammer's rules
I know Warhammer obviously isn't meant to represent real-world medieval combat (I mean... Dragons & Giants, right?), but some funny things still pop up in the name of rule simplicity and clarity. 1) A single guy can be fighting a unit of 50 people in a massive infantry block, and as long as they...

Re: What are the highest & lowest-selling armies?
Yeah, I know obviously Warhammer uses them, but they're the lowest-tier of all the Chaos Armies, and not used or referenced nearly as much as almost any other race. Skaven for example are a race of animal-people that's used MUCH more. And also, Goat People aren't used basically anyplace else I've re...

What are the highest & lowest-selling armies?
I've always been curious about this- I don't think GW lists all of this exactly, but somebody who works in the stores or corporate might be able to tell me. I always figured that Chaos Warriors probably sell very well, and every army goes through a "surge" when a new book/model is released...

Re: Dark Elves (vs) High Elves- 5,000 points
Reading some Rules Threads on here, plus some pertinent rulebook stuff, leads me to some mistakes made during the battle: * I put all the Impact Hits from the Cauldron onto the Swordmasters- I would have had to share between them & the Spearmen (same # of wounds, but more Swordmasters would have...

What Magic Standards do you typically use? Other BSB Stuff?
I usually take 1-2 in many of my battles (which are usually very high-point-value, meaning I don't want to take TOO many and either get outnumbered by the foe or give up to many VPs), but I usually don't switch up the variety that often. Now that I finally have something that can qualify as a BSB (n...

Re: Do you ever award VPs for Mounts or Riders being slain?
Yeah, I realized upon reading the rules that you don't award points for dead mounts, but it still seemed odd to me- I'd probably naturally been giving up VPs for a while! That's a good point about the Mounts being not taken if they gave away VPs- I remember a lot of people took units without command...

Re: Manticore High Beastmaster builds
I was going to go Beastmaster/Manticore in a big battle, but I realized it's about 80 points difference from a Master on Manticore just to have +1 to WS & BS, plus +D3 attacks for the Manticore (and a potential for 50 points of Magic Items). Didn't really seem worth it to me. The Scourgerunner v...

Re: Cold One Chariot Murderous Prowess
Yup, Dalamar is correct. It specifically points it out with "but not their mounts" in the MP rule. I would include Impact Hits amongst those, despite Impact Hits being close combat attacks.

Do you ever award VPs for Mounts or Riders being slain?
I've always given my opponents VPs for killing only one or the other (ie. if a Supreme Sorceress was killed but her Black Dragon was not, I would give VPs for the Sorceress, but not the Dragon), but the rules for awarding VPs don't actually say that- they just say "the model/unit must be dead o...

Re: Success/Failure with CoB..progress report.
I and my opponents agreed that the whole "you don't get two hand weapons while mounted" thing for a Cauldron of Blood is an oversight they didn't think about when writing the rules, since the models blatantly are armed with two hand weapons. So they allowed me to use two attacks (plus one ...

Re: Hardest things to put together?
The thing that REALLY bugs me about the Cold One Knights is that the torso comes bisected down the middle, so there's a HUGE crease/line going alongside the shoulder plates. REALLY annoying to have to Green Stuff those cracks down, especially because a couple don't fit together that well and leave a...

Re: Hardest things to put together?
Oh god yes, the Dark Riders. I had a horrible issue with mine, though I managed to avoid breaking most of them. See, I set up five as a Command Group type of deal, but I preferred the Champion to have that cool Spear option. Then I went to build the Standard Bearer... and discovered that the SB arm ...

Hardest things to put together?
Some of our models are pretty difficult to put together, given how frail and delicate some of their limbs are, but what takes the cake in the entire Warhammer/40K range to you? I find the Witch Elves annoying, because not only are they ULTRA-delicate, but their limbs fall off constantly (I don't wan...

Re: Dark Elves (vs) High Elves- 5,000 points
yeah, DE/HE battles are HORRIBLE for the sheer amount of death- everything's high accuracy & low toughness, and I'm re-rolling everything while he's getting more ranks to attack. --- Two Critical Moments: #1: The Cold One Knights failing to kill the Silver Helms (the Master with S6 T6 for that t...
